Ranking Drought Starting QBs

I’ve posted the Bledsoe stats on here a bunch. After the first 8 games in a Bills uniform he had a losing record, about 1 TD to 1 INT, a ton of fumbles and averaged 195 yards passing a game. If you pull out his first 8 games a strong case could be made that he belongs near the bottom of the list. I put him at a distant 4th. He’s the player though that Bills fans remember way more fondly than they should. -

I’m going to start using that report button. I’m mostly going to complain about @Boyst62 and @Augie. I’m sick of Boyst calling people “snowflakes” and Augie trying to sell his condo in Nashville (it’s called Craigslist). -

I don’t think I’d ever say 5-10 for 50 yards and a TD was a great half. I’d call it acceptable. That was his best performance. That was the only time he had any sort of success in real game action. If you wanted Peterman drafted I get why you are sticking by him. I was fine with the pick and thought he had a chance to be a number 2 in this league. By all accounts (except Gunner and Blokes) he was smart and accurate. It turns out he wasn’t accurate, lacks the arm strength to fit balls into tight windows and crumbles under pressure. I guess we will watch it play out but I’m really glad that I got even money on Allen vs. Peterman opening day.

He had a good drive, down 40 something, against a team playing vanilla defense. He was 5-10 for 50 yards in a score vs. the Colts. I realize that the conditions were tough but that’s no better than acceptable. In the playoffs he played like 4 snaps. He threw an INT, fumbled and got called for intentional grounding. That was “making it happen?” We must have been watching different games. Are people so desperate for a “franchise QB” that they were impressed by that?!? I saw more than enough. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. I wasn’t wrong about Tuel, Levi Brown or Brohm though.

Nope, I will forever hate bad players that aren’t challenged. Scott Chandler was the guy for a while. He went to New England and everyone thought he’d go to the Pro Bowl. If a guy isn’t good, he isn’t good. I’m just glad someone bet me that Peterman was more likely to start than Allen. I watched Peterman in college and knew that he was never going to be more than a backup. I actually liked the pick at the time. I was wrong. He isn’t an NFL player. In in terms of Cleveland, the Jets, the Cardinals, the Bills they are all in the same boat. Every fan base that drafts a QB early wants them to play. At least in the Bills case there really isn’t a better option in front of him. Allen may be their best QB now. Tyrod, McCown and Bradford are all functional starters. None of their teams are very good (I think that the Browns are the best of that group). If your team struggles early the calls for the young guy get louder and louder. It’s just what always happens. I’m just encouraged by the reports that Allen has looked great. How long does it need to play out? Did you need to see more starts from Tuel or Brohm to know that they weren’t going to be good? Did they get a raw deal? They were both better in their action than Peterman. In in terms of Cleveland they need to win. I am with Gunner. Tyrod will play about half of the year and they’ll win some games. At some point they’ll hand the keys to the young guy (or not that young guy in Baker’s case). Rosen will have a chance day 1 in Arizona imo. I think Darnold sits the first 5 games to half a season as well. Allen is the wild card because he faces the easiest “challenge.” With that being said, my assumption has been that Allen was the furthest from ready. Again though, that’s my assumption not necessarily where the Bills stand on it.

Maybe he can be the long-term backup. That remains to be seen. He isn’t that now. In terms of McCarron, he just hit free agency and signed a small back-up QB contract. He may want to be “the guy” but someone has to want him for that role. It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen at this point. There were TONS of QB needy teams this offseason that added vets and/or young guys. McCarron got paid a fraction of what the other vets did. The league isn’t really even viewing him as a bridge guy at the moment.

Not afraid, just seen enough. I saw enough of Brian Brohm against Atlanta. I saw enough of Jeff Tuel against KC. I saw enough of Peterman at Pitt and against the Chargers. I don’t want to watch a bad QB, who hasn’t earned a chance, get a chance. I want my team to win. A QB that completes 50% of his passes to his guys and 10% to the opposition does nothing for me. I’ll ask it another way: why are some people so interested in seeing more Peterman? I suspect these are the same people that wanted “anyone but Tyrod.” When Peterman got his chance it failed miserably. These people are holding out hope that everything they thought wasn’t completely wrong. Unfortunately for them Peterman may not take another snap in a meaningful NFL game again. It’s irrelevant anyways. Allen is going o be the guy as soon as he is ready. McCarron will hold down the fort in the short-term.

You get chances when you are decent. That’s why someone is paying him $18M (or whatever). You don’t get a lot of chances when you are terrible. How many chances did Levi Brown get? Jeff Tuel? Gibran Hamadan? Brian Brohm? Those are the guys comparable to Peterman as prospects. He’s been given a much bigger opportunity than other late round picks that played terribly. With all of that being said it isn’t going to matter if Chris Simms’ report is right. Allen will be out there early, McCarron next and Peterman fighting for a roster spot in the NFL.

It’s an even funnier list if you rank them by the quality of their character. -

How many starts will rookie first-round QBs get?
Kirby Jackson replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only place that I take issue (and it’s minor) is that I’d have our RBs (Shady) at 2 of 5 instead of 3. I will give David Johnson the top spot (reluctantly). I like the Browns depth there but Shady will be productive again. -
This is where I am as well. There are a few guys though that have a shot. How hard would it be for Foster to take a spot from Andre Holmes for example? Thompson has a shot as well. If Boesen shows the ability to rush the passer he will be in the mix. The Bills aren’t overly talented or deep. There is opportunity here for aome of these young guys to get a chance.

Roseanne Show cancelled by ABC after racist tweet
Kirby Jackson replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Shocking that this thread is even taking a PPP turn (sarcasm). It’s not that complicated. Don’t say racist stuff and you won’t have to worry about the reprecussions. Even Roseanne doesn’t think that what she said should be defended: https://people.com/tv/roseanne-barr-breaks-silence-after-shows-cancellation-ambien/ It isn’t a political matter or witch hunt. The story isn’t “Roseanne got fired because ABC is run by a bunch of liberals.” The story is “Roseanne got fired for saying dumb, racist stuff.” Let’s not lose sight of that... -

He’s one of the most likable players that we’ve had in forever. Tre will be a leader of this team in the near future. -
Then I guess we are just viewing that differently. I’m viewing that as “until he’s the best QB on the roster.” He may be handed the keys before he is the most likely QB to win. I don’t even know if that makes sense? I guess that what I’m saying is McCarron may give them the best chance to win against the Titans (for example) but Allen starts if he’s “ready.” Again, that could happen at anytime between now and a year from now. Sounds like we are basically saying the same thing though.
-
The only issue is that it isn’t “until proven otherwise.” It is “until we think he’s ready.” This team didn’t trade up in the 1st round to have Allen competing for the starting role. It will be given to him as soon as they believe that he is ready. It may not be at all this year. It may be a year from now.
