Saints trade 3rd round pick for Teddy Bridgewater
Kirby Jackson replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe not, but he isn’t being asked to play all of the time. He’s being asked to play IF Brees is hurt. It is possible that both get hurt but again, he is there to buy time until Brees returns. I mean, it’s not wishful thinking from me. I really don’t like the Saints and am dreading them being good. It’s obnoxious here when that’s the case. As an example, my entire office (except me) is in Saints gear today because of a preseason game. At the same time I do follow them pretty closely being here. That team should be loaded. They are a better team than a year ago when they won 11 games. They’ve improved their secondary, pass rush, pass catchers and depth. IMO, this is a much better roster than the roster that Teddy had at 11-5. There is no reason to think he can’t keep this team going if Brees goes down. This isn’t your older brother’s Saints. They are absolutely Super Bowl contenders. -
I mean, I don’t know if the Bills will be the worst team in football. I also don’t know how anyone can objectively look at this team and expect to be good? That is okay. If Allen can play and Edmunds can play, the future is bright. The Bills are going through a rebuilding phase. Next year, it should be complete (or close to it). I don’t care if they are bad now as long as a year from now they look like a team on the rise. That is what “process” is all about.

Saints trade 3rd round pick for Teddy Bridgewater

Payton will run a balanced attack. Bridgewater won’t be handing it to Adrian Peterson 327 times. Teddy had that team at 11-5 when he was just 23. I know the injury was devastating but he appears to be healthy and has looked good. If he can average the same 200 yards a game that he did then and the Saints can run for another 180 they will be fine. Teddy won’t make mistakes and is accurate. That’s enough to keep them afloat. -

They added Robinson, Coleman, Davis and Davenport to the defense. Additionally, Okafor is back from injury and was off to a great start last year. Their defense is a lot better than a year ago (at least they expect it to be). Adding Davenport and a healthy Okafor could be 15 more sacks. The increased pressure will lead to increased turnovers. This holds especially true with the leap that Marcus Williams appears to have taken going into year 2. He’s been the star of the offseason. Again, I don’t think that they can win as a 3,000 yard passing team but Sean Payton will never allow that anyways. They will run a controlled passing game and run the ball if Brees is out. If Brees misses 8 games (as an example) it is still entirely possible that they win 5 or 6 of those games. That NEVER would have been the case previously (and it wouldn’t have with Hill). This move is the type of insurance that you need when your window is open. They only stay open for a few years (unless you are the Pats). The Saints had to protect this opportunity. -
Saints trade 3rd round pick for Teddy Bridgewater

They don’t though. They’ve pretty much changed the way that they were constructed because it didn’t work. They are a balanced offense that rushes the passer and creates turnovers. They’ve spent the last 2 seasons remaking the secondary, pass rusher and running game. The days of the 5,000 yards passing are gone. They believe, that they are good enough now to withstand Brees missing significant time. That would have been blasphemous not that long ago. They might be right now. That’s why they made the move. -

It’s no different than the Eagles last year. The Saints are a different team than they were. They were at the top of the league with 4.7 YPC and rushed for over 2,000 yards last year. They are balanced on offense and can rush the passer on defense. This is the most balanced Saints team since 2009. -
Maybe, unless they can get a 2020 from the Bills and more. For example what is a better offer: GB’s 1st and 3rd in 2019 or McCarron, Bills 2nd, 4th and 2020 1st or 2nd? If you think that the Bills are bad (or GB is good) you may consider it. I can’t see the Bills giving up their 2019 1st but they can still assemble a solid offer.

Right now, who is the Bills best Qb?
Kirby Jackson replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still think it’s Allen because he can do the most. I’ve said it multiple times (and may be wrong) but when the bullets start flying I don’t see Peterman succeeding. The opposing team will get pressure (easily), jam the receivers and run under every route. They are so incredibly easy to defense. The only way to succeed is to escape the rush and make some plays over the top. That’s the only way you are going to keep teams from playing 11 guys up. To me, Allen is clearly the guy to do that. He also may be able to zing some of those outs and slants by the guys jumping routes. Those can also become big plays. Teams have to defense him differently. -
Will Josh Allen play tomorrow?
Kirby Jackson replied to Bills365's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it’s possible that Allen plays the entire game tomorrow. The reps aren’t going to hurt him. They haven’t committed to a starter yet for opening day. They know what they have in Peterman. Allen could use the game experience. -

So if he works out hard he will be the best QB ever, win 5 Super Bowls and play in 8? Sign me up!! -
Saints trade 3rd round pick for Teddy Bridgewater

It makes perfect sense. The Saints are trying to make their run at the Super Bowl. Bridgewater protects them in the event of a Brees injury. Their window is now. -
That’s all fine and good but we have no idea if he’s good or not. We also have an OL coach hired by McDermott that they fully trust. Maybe I’m on an island here but I wouldn’t leave my franchise QB in the hands of someone that has never developed a QB. I don’t think that is wise. That was my hope as well.
-
I’m not saying that he WANTS that necessarily. I’m saying that there is a number that will make him want it. By all accounts he loved working with Allen. Gruden didn’t want to go back to coaching either until the offer was too good to pass up. Dorsey did a great job with Cam and has a McDermott connection. Art Briles is a scumbag but has done great work with QBs. AVP? Which QBs has Culley developed? The answer is, none. Now, maybe he will develop Allen but his track record now is nil. I would never trust someone without a resume of QB development to develop my young franchise QB. That’s negligent IMO.
-
For one, I don’t know why it has to be much less money? If you gave Palmer $1.5M is that less than he’s making? If so, pay him more. Everyone raves about the results that he got from Allen. Has Culley done a good job so far? Peterman has shown improvement for sure. McCarron hasn’t shown much and Allen is about where we thought he’d be. Last year the QBs regressed. I’m not sure that he is doing a good job at all. He certainly wouldn’t be the guy that I’d hand a young QB prospect to. There are A LOT of guys with better (and longer) track records of QB development. Dorsey would have been another solid option. I’m not sure Palmer wants the grind either but there is a number that will change his mind. The Pegula’s have never been shy about opening the wallet.
-
He’s the guy that’s the worst at his job. His seat has to be hot IMO. Culley is next. He should not be the guy developing your young stud QB. They should have thrown a pile of money at Jordan Palmer to continue what he started. Daboll has over a year because he’s saddled with poor talent and a weak offensive coaching staff. He more or less has a pass this year for me.

Bleacher Report - Doom & Gloom

Anything can happen but I’m with C.Biscuit. I’d take their roster over ours 10 times out of 10. They have better players. -

No, but their roster is WAY more talented. They are a year ahead of us in their rebuild. Next year we have the cap space to go with 9 picks. They had that this year. The Browns should be better than the Bills this year. They can rush the passer, have a good OL, and a bunch of playmakers. Their roster is way deeper as well. -

I just read it. I don’t see anything wrong with what he said. In fact, I’m not sure that there is much to debate. The Bills are well-coached and have a plan. It was going to take a few years. If Allen can play they are fine. If not they are a long way from being good. 2018 is going to be what it’s going to be. Next year will be when we see the progress. -
It’s not losing on purpose. It’s deciding, “what’s the best course to win a championship?” That is what guides everything. The Eagles played Wentz, struggled, answering won a year later. Manning and Aikman struggled as rookies. Other teams have sat guys (ie Rodgers). Whatever the Bills believe is the best plan to win a title is what they need to do. It doesn’t matter if they win 4, 6 or 8. It’s irrelevant. Setting up for a run is all that matters.
