Penn State: Visiting advice for this weekend
Kirby Jackson replied to SDS's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Picture the biggest Bills home game ever and then add 30,000 people. It will be PSU - OSU and nothing else. Literally the entire area will be nothing but that. They started camping out Monday. I can’t speak to PSU specifically but when Alabama plays in Baton Rouge they estimate over 300,000 people are on campus that day. It can take an hour to drive a mile. For context, Baton Rouge has a population of 227,000. I’d imagine that you are looking at approximately 200,000 plus. -
I’d rather have Sam Sweetheart

I don’t know. Some projected Jason Peters as high as the second round. He just didn’t have a position. He was a college TE that was the size of a tackle. He was very, very raw coming out but had a chance to be special based on his physical skills. Mike Jasper was the same way. I use him so that it doesn’t look like revisionist history. Sometimes elite physical traits translate and sometimes they don’t. Foster is a former 5-star that never lived up to his status at ‘Bama. He was an afterthought and a part-time player. He was a disappointment in his time there from what they expected. Hopes of him becoming a number 1 aren’t at all realistic. We should hope that he learns to track (and catch) the deep ball. If he can develop into a 3 or 4 that can stretch the field he can be a useful player going forward. That’s a ball that Allen is always going to throw. If he can run underneath a few he can be an asset.

Of course not!! He’s currently about a 4th receiver on the worst WR group in the NFL. For some context there are currently 120 or so better NFL receivers. If our goal is to have the 120th best receiver in football as our top guy we need to make it a bigger priority. Foster doesn’t look like he belongs on an NFL roster and certainly not a guy near the top of a depth chart. I guess that we are the same people that thought Nate Peterman was a viable starting option though so....you never know

I’ve been picking against the Bills in the one pool. I’m doing that for the next two weeks. I won’t pick the Titans when they come to Buffalo though.

The obvious answer is Josh Allen continuing to progress. He got better as the game went along last week. It’s going to take some time to adjust to the speed of the game but today is a real test for him. The same goes for Edmunds. I thought that he was one of the best players for the Bills in Week 1. I thought he was a nightmare last week. These two guys have to become stars not just good players. They are both pretty raw so progress followed by consistency is what I’m looking for this year.

Dwayne Haskins is going to be a stud
Kirby Jackson replied to Rad Likes The Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don’t think that the Bills are looking at a QB. I do think that Haskins is an elite QB prospect. He’s incredibly accurate and poised. He can (and does) make every throw. On the year he is 87-115, 75.7% completion, 1,194 yards, 16 TDs, 1 INT. It would actually be more if he played the second half of some of these games. He’s different. -

There are only two guys still kneeling and they are on the Dolphins. Jerry Jones, I suppose could cut a guy that kneels but he’d have hell to pay from the NFLPA. The league has decided not to institute a policy this year and would strongly push Jerry against taking action towards said player. It will become another PR nightmare. So in theory, he could cut a guy that kneels, but it won’t happen. It will be too big of a headache.

FWIW, I agree that’s probably what they intended. If they could do it differently they probably would. Good conversation!! I look forward to more in the future. Have a goodnight!!

No problem, I am thinking more like one team decides that they want to have death metal before the game instead of the anthem. They try to say “here’s what an NFL game looks like.” There is certainly some room for creativity as you get to the details (ie you can have someone wave a Bills flag and lead the charge). You can’t decide major things if that makes sense. As an aside, I went McDonalds earlier this week. I probably go into a McDonalds 4 or 5 times a year. I ordered at a kiosk and not from a person. This was completely new to me. This must be the type of thing that they allow (but don’t require) franchisees to do. That’s the best parallel that I can draw.

There’s a difference between things clearly defined vs. suggested. You “can’t” take certain drugs. You “should” stand for the anthem, with helmet in left hand, etc.. A lot of these things aren’t necessarily designed to be rules. They are more designed to make things uniform and clean so that teams don’t go rouge. Think of the NFL like McDonald’s corporate. There are certain things that franchisees “must” do, other things that they “should” do and other things that they “can” do. All of those have different meanings but the goal is that if you go to 3 different McDonald’s there are a lot of similarities amongst them all. Correct

These manuals are put together by lawyers and every word is thought out. When I worked in the NBA the Game Ops Book was like 1,000 pages each year. It was as detailed down to the 3 songs that you are allowed to play when the road team is on offense. (Seriously if you watch an NBA game when the visiting team has the ball only three songs/chants will play). Sometimes these issues though go unforseen so they follow it by the letter the letter of the law. The fact that it says “should” means that they will leave that as a suggestion. If it said “must” it would be different. 5 years ago they probably could have changed that and no one would have thought twice. Now that it is in the public eye the changes will have to be agreed upon. Like anything it will be a negotiation. You usually give something and get something simultaneously.

What’s the question? I do know a little about the CBA (more about the NBA CBA) but have a working knowledge of the NFL.
