[Vague Title] I want a Do Over
Kirby Jackson replied to chef4131's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No need to make excuses for him. He had all kinds of opportunities and hasn’t been good. He was the lowest graded WR in the NFL last year. He may get better but he has been bad. -

And he is averaging 2 catches and 35 yards a game. He has a 57 yard catch too. His numbers are just like they were. He just isn’t very good. He may improve and I loved the pick. I was wrong. -

He might be okay but he is nowhere near those other guys. He has a long way to go before he even belongs in a conversation with Kupp and Juju. Their numbers this year are close to his combined through the first 2 years. They’ve also caught 15 more TDS between them. Zay may end up okay but there is no comparison. -

This is for my own sanity. If you want to advocate for a guy, at least know his name. It isn’t “Krupp” or “Coop.” His name is Cooper Kupp. This holds true for all players. If there is a guy that you really want, you should at least know his name. I’m not trying to be a ? it is just a giant pet peeve. We wouldn’t be saying that. Those guys are miles ahead of Zay. -

Krupp would be a bad pick. I’d take Juju though. -
Yeah, it’s risky but it comes with high upside. Football guys are typically the last to adapt so I doubt that we ever see it. It’s an interesting thought. As an example if the Raiders would have played out Derek Carr’s deal, tagged him and traded him for a bunch of picks the Raiders may have been better off? If we ever get to that point I think that you will start to see starting QB salaries drop and maybe even a new middle class of QBs that play an important role in case the team misses on the “next guy.”

McDermott not pleased with WRs in practice
Kirby Jackson replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That’s kind of what I am getting at. This isn’t like, “they haven’t had a chance to invest yet.” They used more than a 2nd on Zay and a 3rd on Benjamin. They were planning on them being core members of this receiver group moving forward at the time they acquired them. The same can probably be said for Jordan Mathews. Not one of those guys is going to be a key part of your receiver room. They may be in the room but as guys not focal points. This regime just kind of butchered the position and now need to hit the reset button. -

I tend to agree. He’s back on the Saints though. I liked Deonte Thompson too as a role guy. -
Texting in the business world
Kirby Jackson replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It’s a new day. I don’t like the texts because they are harder to document but I have some massive clients that communicate primarily through text. I think, like us, it’s the quickest and most efficient way to get an answer. It’s not going away. -

Oh I didn’t. He is in other posts. I couldn’t fit all of the busts in one post. -

They used a high 2nd (that they traded up for) a 3rd, a 6th, 2 7ths and a depth corner to try to improve the position in addition to the free agents they signed. There is no nitpicking. They applied resources and were wrong about the guys that they chose. Nitpicking would be pretending that didn’t happen. Now, it’s entirley possible that they have an entirely different WR room next year. I don’t think that their 3 year plan consisted of needing to find 4-6 new receivers in year 3. If they go some right along the way that wouldn’t be the case. I’m actually shocked that anyone can objectively view this differently. Every guy was a mistake. -

I’m not asking them to hit 100% on the receivers. I think it’s reasonable to expect more than zero. Every single receiver move has failed. Benjamin wasn’t worth a 3rd. Zay wasn’t worth the 2nd. Clay wasn’t worth Seymour. Holmes wasn’t worth his contract. Philly Brown wasn’t either. The same goes for Kerley. The Coleman trade was a bust. Etc... Every single decision that they have made regarding thee receivers has been a bad one. They don’t get a free pass for that. They have picked the wrong guys, signed the wrong guys and traded for the wrong guys. That’s not good. It’s not like other positions, like LB, where there’s been some good and bad. Milano looks like a great pick. Vallejo was not. They get a break for stuff like that. They don’t get a pass for failing with the WR position. -

Each decision is judged on its own merit. They have done some things well. They’ve failed miserably when it comes to adding receivers. They don’t get credit for the good and a free pass for the bad. -

I’m just not excusing them. As an example they could have picked Ju-Ju instead of Zay. That would have been a good decision. The free agent receivers that they paid in 2017 were Andre Holmes, Anquan Boldin, Philly Brown, Rod Streater, Jeremy Butler and Brandon Tate. They get the blame for that. Not one of those guys can play. They also trade for Mathews and Benjamin while trading up for Zay. That was the group that they decided was good enough after trading Watkins and letting Woods and Goodwin walk. They don’t get a pass for that or get to hide behind “the process.” That can’t be judged as anything but a massive failure. -

There were lots of things that they could have done instead of trading for Mathews, Kaelin Clay & Benjamin. They took guys in the 6th and 7th and some undrafted FAs. They signed journeymen receivers in Streater, Holmes & Kerley and traded up in round 2 for Zay Jones. Literally every WR decision that they have made has been wrong. The people most responsible for this are McDermott and Beane. I’m not excusing McCloud but I’m not praising McDermott for it either. This mess is on him. -

I don’t disagree that he should have jumped him. I guess the point is I would agree more if he was jumping Robert Woods or Sammy Watkins. It’s his fault that there are guys the quality of Ray Ray McCloud on the active roster to yell at. -

It doesn’t matter if they are inspired or not. They are so limited that they won’t ever make an impact. Rudy was always inspired; he just wasn’t good at football. The people most most responsible for the quality of the receivers are McDermott & Beane. -

So to be clear, these guys gutted the receiver room and replaced them with the worst receivers in the league. Now they are mad that these guys suck? Whose fault is that?- 181 replies
