(hypothetical) Alabama vs. Bills spread
Kirby Jackson replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I appreciate the kind words!! You always have solid takes and the best avatar on the board. The only reason that the topic is back up is because an actual Vegas oddsmaker set the line at 28.5. The point was to supposed to be that this conversation wasn’t started by some TBD poster’s opinion or a WGR caller. If this game were to be played the line would be 28.5 The entire conversation wasn’t supposed to be “can the Bills beat Alabama?” It was “can the Bills beat Alabama by 28.5 points?” I happen to think that it’s about 30-10. -

Tough, to make some of these arguments when you openly admit you don’t know who they have. I’m not trying to pick on you but the irony is that the people that have seen the most of both teams have the most rational takes. You said their worst starters won’t even be signed as UDFA’s. We had one of their backups playing on our opening day roster as a rookie. So here it goes: -Jerry Hughes is a great pass rusher. Jonah Williams will be the 1st OL drafted. The most recent mock I saw had him as the 2nd overall player. That isn’t some mismatch. They’d each win sometimes. - That same mock had 4 other Alabama players in the top 25 next season. - The 2 that won’t be starters for 2 years aren’t eligible to come out yet. You need to be 3 years out of HS. If they could come out now they’d be playing as well. -Their starting WRs are better than ours now!! Jeudy and Ruggs would both start on the Bills. One of our starting CBs is Ryan Lewis. If you think that Ryan Lewis could shut down Jerry Jeudy you are crazy (like really crazy). - The conditioning argument may be the worst of all. The famed Alabama “4th quarter” conditioning program may be the most grueling program in sports. They aren’t conditioned like any other team. Their strength coach is paid $600k a year!! This is so, so, so wrong I don’t even know what to say. 2 years ago Tre White was a good SEC CB. 8 months later he was one of our best players. Do you think that he magically got way better in 8 months? No, he was pretty much the same guy. 8 months ago Saquon Barkley wouldn’t have made it out of the 1st quarter but now he can catch 100 balls and rush for 1,000 yards?!? GTFO, that is a TERRIBLE take. -

Honest question, “how many Bama games have you seen this year?” I just ask because some people are acting like we are talking about “any” college team. With the exception of Clemson, Alabama may be 28.5 points better than any other team in college football. Their QB didn’t take a 4th quarter snap until last week. That was their toughest matchup. It was a 29-0 win, at night, in Baton Rouge. LSU was considered the 3rd best team in the country. Additionally, guys are developed at Alabama at a level that they aren’t at other schools. 48.3% of 5 star recruits that go to Alabama get picked in the 1st round. 17% of 5 star recruits that go elsewhere get picked in the 1st round. They had the number 1 recruiting class in the country 7 straight years until this past year!! They could land up to 10 5 stars next year!! https://www.google.com/amp/s/247sports.com/college/alabama/ContentGallery/Alabama-Football-Recruiting-Ten-5-star-recruits-that-could-end-up-at-Alabama--118308045/Amp/ The point is that they aren’t just some good college team. The gap from Alabama to the 3rd best team in college football is greater than the gap between the 3rd best team in the country and the 50th best team. -

I’ll be happy to book that one for you if you are interested? You can name the stakes. Just PM me if you want in. It can’t be worse than the time I had to Venmo one of the Bull brothers and then tell him how smart he was for Peterman starting. -

I’m not talking about our poll. The one from the original tweet from the action network. I’m guessing that their followers are a fairly heterogenous group of sports fans and degenerate gamblers. -

I don’t think any reasonable person thinks that they can win. An actual, professional, oddsmaker said that 28.5 would be the line. The question was “would the Bills cover 28.5?” Also, Bama isn’t losing. -

FWIW, the poll is up to about 1,700 votes. 60/40 Alabama to cover -

That’s 15 years ago!! With the amount of info out there now the bust rate is WAY lower. McKinnie started 162 games in the NFL and went to the Pro Bowl. Is that bad? I watch a lot of football. I don’t (at all) think that a 30-10 prediction is ridiculous. Anyone that thinks this is a massive blowout hasn’t been paying attention to Bama. -

Sam Darnold turned the ball over 22 times at USC last year!! Bringing an development into the conversation isn’t really relevant. That’s the place that takes the longest to get up to speed. I’d argue Tua is a better prospect than any of them. He has a ways to go still but you could plug him into the same situations as those guys and get results. There are AT least 5 guys on that offense that could start on our offense now. Could our offense score on our defense? It’s fairly similar. If the answer is “they could score about 10” that’s what I projected. Now, I don’t see the Bills offense scoring 39 points against that Alabama defense. That’s what would be needed to cover. -

A top 5 LT and a potential 1st round guard. That’s kind of the point. They have (at minimum) 2 guys that will be starting in the NFL next year on the OL. A RS sophomore who was a top 5 OG recruit in the country that weighs 344. The RG was a uninamous 5 star and the top OT recruit in the country. The RT was a 5 star and the 33rd rank recruit at any position in 2017. So to sum it up, there is a top 5 OT this year and a C/G that will go by round 2. There are 2 guys that aren’t yet draft eligible that will be NFL starters as soon as 2020. The 5th player will likely return and then go to the NFL with the others. Thats the point. These aren’t “some college kids.” These are future pros. I’m confident that all 5 guys will start in the NFL at some point. I’m not saying that they would dominate our front 7 but their OL MAY very well be better than ours now. That’s not hyperbole either. Our front 7 will fo well against them but it isn’t going to be a 10 sack performance or anything. -

I think that the cool thing about it is that it is from a real Vegas oddsmaker. Vegas didn’t build those big buildings by losing. That spread isn’t ridiculous one way or the other. I happen to think that the game is closer to 20 than 30 but this game wouldn’t be 56-0. -

The two guys in the middle of Alabama’s defense will be top 10 picks. They aren’t getting mauled by the bottom of the barrel NFL players. Do you think that Bodine and Vlad would maul Harrison Phillips? He was a much lesser prospect a year ago. -

You watch a lot of football. Would you agree that there are (potentially) 5 guys on Alabama’s offense that could start on the Bills now? - Tua - Jeudy - Williams - Ruggs - Pierschbacher -

That’s well said. People in Buffalo, in general, don’t watch a lot of college football. There are 5 or 6 guys on Alabama (minimum) that would start on the Bills now. Tua is as good of a QB prospect as I can remember. So many here assume “the Bills would trash them” but guys on this Alabama team will be starting all over the NFL in the next 3 years. They aren’t going to be magically better a year from now. Tre White went from a really good SEC CB to a really good NFL CB in a year. He didn’t get way better in 8 months. He was largely the same player just now in an NFL uniform instead of an LSU uniform. The gap between the top college talent and bottom NFL talent is WAY smaller than its ever been. The NFL middle class is no longer around. You have top guys and guys on rookie contracts. Don’t underestimate that. Bills (but good question) You are missing the irony here. The guy that the Bills had on their opening day roster was a backup at Alabama. You are WAY underestimating the talent level. There are, without question, more 1st round picks on that Alabam roster than on the Bills. I’d encourage anyone that hasn’t watched Alabama to watch them before commenting. They shouldn’t be looked at as “a nice college team.” They may be the greatest college team ever (and that’s not hyperbole). They are right there with 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami imo. -

I guess for me, it’s more about the 28.5. If I were betting this game, I’d be betting Bama. The game would be something like 30-10 IMO. Alabama isn’t some college team that has some NFL players. They probably have 20-30 guys on that roster now that will be in the NFL and 15 or so guys that will be drafted in the 1st 2 days. Now, some of them are young but elite talents like Jeudy, Harris and Tua will make a few plays (even against our strong defense). Their OL has multiple guys that would start on our OL now (Williams and Pierschbacher). Their defense has a few stars as well (specifically Quinnen Williams). The Bills would do some scoring but I don’t see them winning by 29 or more. -
Just saw this and thought it warranted a thread.

I have the 256 GB iPhone XS max through AT&T. I got it through them and just pay monthly on it. So far it has worked out quite well but the screen protector that I have kinda sucks. -

It doesn’t matter if it’s intentional or not. They are one of the worst offenses ever. They won’t win games because of it. -
Don’t worry bro, no one has the same thought. Your thread is safe.

Gary Kubiak for OC Next Season?

Asked a different way, “why would a vulnerable McDermott, hire an alpha in Kubiak?” That feels risky. -

Not sure a Super Bowl winning HC wants to be Sean McDermott’s OC. If Kubiak is healthy enough to coach he will be a HC. -
