Draftniks: Name your 2019 Draft "Crush"
Kirby Jackson replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They asked for a draft crush. He gave 3 different guys at 3 different parts of the draft. The Bills are obviously taking a WR (likely more). Those are the guys that he likes at different portions of the draft for that. -

I didn’t think of this as for my team (although I don’t hate White). We would have ELITE speed at the LB position allowing for 3 LBs to remain on the field. A 240 LBs linebacker that runs 4.4 and dominated the SEC can play for me. He MIGHT be the best LB in football in a few years (that’s how high I am on him). See if you can find the tape of LSU - Auburn from 2017. He looked like the best player ever. -

Early in the draft Devin White. Terry McLauren in the mid-rounds (although he’s lighting up Sr. Bowl Week). Iman Marshall in the late rounds. -
I guess that’s the point. The Jeremiah’s of the world think that he’s worthy of a top 5 pick and is head’s and shoulders above. Matt Miller has a similar opinion. I haven’t seen enough of the group to have a definitive opinion on the gaps between guys. I see why scouts love him though. He’s going to be a great pro.

You need to avoid stats when looking at prospects. Josh Allen was a perfect example. It’s a skill set that you are looking for. The reason that scouts love Jacobs (Daniel Jeremiah’s top overall offensive player) is the combination of balance, receiving, effort, and tackle breaking ability. He has a skill set that translates to a 3 down back. He’s going to be a great pro and go way earlier than people many have thought (as he is a guy rising now). I don’t think he’s the Bills pick at 9 but I’ve seen him mocked as high as 5 to the Bucs.

The 'Most Likely To' New HC Game

...and they have CLEARLY stated on multiple occasions that they will draft BPA. They certainly will not reach on an OL (or any other position) at 9 out of need. If there is a guy there that they think has the value of the 9th pick he will be selected. If not they will go in a different direction. Additionally, FA comes before the draft. We have no idea what the roster will look like at the end of April. They may have signed Kareem Hunt or Bell. They may have added 3 starting OL (Paradis, Saffold, Williams). They may have done any or all of this. The only position we know they won’t take at 9 is QB. Everyone else is in play.

What’s your most Controversial opinion?
Kirby Jackson replied to Juror#8's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I take such great offense to this!! Ha ha, it is in my top 10 all-time (along with Rocky, both Godfathers, Royal Tenenbaums, City of God, Usual Suspects, Dumb & Dumber, Donnie Brasco & Return of the King). I think you just aren’t lonely enough to understand. In terms of controversial opinions, Zach Morris was a manipulative a-hole and a terrible friend. He tried to have sex with all of the girls (including his 2 best friend’s Girls) and always sent someone else to do his dirty work. -
My issue though is you aren’t basing that on anything. I’m giving you multiple reasons as to why it’s possible. The scouting community being high on him and the history of Beane’s mentors dictate that it’s possible. The Bills RB is coming off of his worst season, has a big cap number and is on the last 3 holes of his career. The Bills lack playmakers all over the field. A 3 down back that blocks and is a high level receiver is certainly appealing to them. This holds especially true when the Bills OC was his OC in college. That’s a LOT of reasons to believe that it could happen. Not saying that at all. I’m on record as saying I’d draft a defensive player in the top 10 because I believe that’s where the top end talent is. If you read what I wrote (which you never do) there are a lot of reasons to believe it is possible. See the previous post...

It’s not. They had other options to fill that role as the draft went along (Warner, Leonard, etc..). I can promise that a team drafts on BPA. They have tiers of players and may move up or down depending on where they have guys. In a situation like Edmunds, they indicated that they were shocked he was still there. That tells me he was graded highly to them and there was a drop off to the next player. Fitting a need was a bonus. They went to get him though because of the quality of the player not the position. It is possible that they take a MLB (Devin White) at 9 this year.

It’s not though. You are ignoring history John. Carolina took one in 2006, 2008, 2017 and then Beane’s boss took one in 2018. These are the people that Beane learned from. He may very well think Jacobs is the best weapon in the draft (as Jeremiah thinks). It isn’t impossible to believe that the Bills would want that guy. They aren’t exactly loaded with playmakers. Pretending it ISN’T an option is burying your head in the sand and hoping. It absolutely is a possibility (as are many other guys at this point). Again, that’s based on what you are hoping. They have never said that. They want to add a guy there. The Panthers (and Gettleman) have had a history of doing it. You aren’t using the past to shape your opinion. You are basing it on what you hope.

I guess that in a 2 year span they get credit from me (who was a wait and see guy) on their rookies. Tre, Milano, Wallace, Johnson, Foster, Edmunds, Zay, Dawkins, and Phillips have all contributed off the top of my head. Part of that is because the team hasn’t been great but partly because they added the right guys.

FWIW, before hating it let’s learn a little about the player. This is my plea for the entire draft season to all of us. These guys have drafted well. That’s an area where they have earned some trust. Before we fall in love or hate a player let’s at least know the player. This way we can discuss the pros and cons at a much deeper level. https://thedraftnetwork.com/2018/12/19/5-play-prospect-rb-joshua-jacobs/
