  1. I think that the topic is interesting and MLB has just given the NFL a road map (and cover). I’ve said it a zillion times before but the NFL is the reactionary league. They are never the innovator. This is likely the first domino to fall IMO. I expect this exact conversation to be a MAJOR part of the next CBA.
  2. It’s decriminalized in so many places that I don’t know what it would take for jail time. If it’s an amount for personal consumption it’s a ticket. As an example I think it’s a $25 ticket in New Orleans.
  3. That’s my thought. My guess is that they do something similar. They will tighten up on opioids (which they pretty much look the other way on) and loosen up on marijuana. This feels like a big step.
  4. We have had countless debates on here as to how the NFL may address these issues moving forward. MLB took big steps today and have gone a similar route to what i expect from the NFL. Thought this was really interesting and warranted discussion. Felt like it should be on the main board even though this is about how baseball handled it. Feel free to move it if so. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28283499/mlb-union-agree-opioid-testing-marijuana-removed-drug-abuse
  5. Can you imagine the video tribute before?!? Just inspiring music playing in the background and some guy “in 2019, NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Winner, Antonio Brown called his boss a cracker.”
  6. I’m not trying to be “that guy” but the title it a little misleading. He’s the Bills winner and becomes one of the 32 NFL players eligible to be the Walter Payton Man of the Year. I think that they narrow it to 3 and then announce the winner at the Super Bowl. With that being said Lorenzo is a tremendous man in the community and in the locker room. We are fortunate to have his leadership and character. He would be a very deserving winner. Good luck to him!!
  7. The NFL hires people ALL of the time because of who they worked with!! That’s how it is in every business. You hire the people that you know and believe can get the job done. You don’t hire someone that you’ve read about over someone that you’ve sat in meetings with. You are arguing whether or not he is deserving. I’m not saying that he is or isn’t. I’m just saying that’s what IS going to happen. People (not just you) seem to be shocked to hear this. No one should be surprised over the next month when they hear Daboll and maybe Frazier linked to available HC jobs.
  8. We should IMO. The Bills have been able to stay incredibly healthy to this point (knock on wood). In order to win in the playoffs you will need your team as complete as possible. I’d play it like the 4th preseason game but obviously with smaller rosters.
  9. You are so hung up on the play calling. Daboll worked with Caserio in New England. Caserio thinks highly of him. He is going to consider him for a head job wherever he goes. It isn’t about his play calling. It is about the type of head coach he thinks Daboll will make. I am not even sure that it’s arguable at this point that he will get interviews. He’s universally discussed as a HC candidate. It doesn’t matter if the Bills win all of their remaining games or none of them. These teams are looking at his 20 year coaching career not each game. This thread wasn’t about the merits of Brian Daboll as an OC. There have been lots of threads discussing play calling. The purpose of this was guys that the Bills could lose. The Bills aren’t going to lose anyone that they want to keep to coordinator positions or as position coaches. They can block that from happening. They cannot block teams from interviewing guys to be head coaches. Brian Daboll is going to have interviews. That really isn’t even a question at this point. Leslie Frazier may as well. He’s more likely to stay IMO as teams aren’t hiring 60 year-old defensive coordinators (except Denver).
  10. It’s a totally different scenario. There were 50,000 Bills fans at the last playoff game and it was in Jacksonville. What happened in the 90’s is irrelevant. That’s why i talked about the tape delay for the NBA Finals. It did happen before but will never happen again. There are TONS of reasons that it isn’t worth the conversation. The stadium is smaller, the NFL is way bigger now, the ease of tickets for out-of-towners through the secondary market, a generation of fans that are starved for winning instead of fatigued, etc.... I could keep going with reasons but you get the point. It’s apples and oranges
  11. The NBA Finals used to be on tape delay too. What happened decades ago is totally irrelevant (as is this thread).
  12. Teams don’t change their plans after each game!! No one is that reactionary. That’s insane. They don’t say “we love him” after the Dallas game and then “we can’t hire him” a week later!! That’s not the way that this works. I just posted an article 30 minutes ago talking about how Caserio may want Daboll wherever he goes. Caserio was obviously with him in NE.
  13. There is a lot here. It sounds like McDaniels may bolt. There is also talk of Daboll going with Caserio wherever he ends up. https://heavy.com/sports/2019/12/major-coaching-change-expected-patriots/
  14. This is a really simple answer; his New England tenure overlapped with McDaniels. He’s the highest paid coordinator in football. I don’t think that’s telling at all.
  15. Every single one of those guys got more out of a QB than people thought they would (Mahomes, Goff, Cousins, Alex Smith, Case Keenum, Nick Foles, etc...). Again, I’m not saying Daboll will be the next great HC. I have no idea if he will ever be a HC. All that I have said, and all that I will continue to say, is that he WILL be considered by teams. His name has already been out there with Carolina and doubt that’s the only place. If I had to guess he gets interviewed by 2 or 3 teams (Carolina being one of them).
  16. I don’t know if he will be the greatest candidate, a train wreck or somewhere in between. I’ve never met Brian Daboll. All that I know is that his name has been circulated by talking heads. Whenever connected people say, “_____ is a candidate” they usually are. I have no idea what the odds of Daboll getting a HC job are. I firmly believe the odds of him getting an interview or interviews is almost 100%.
  17. What you aren’t seeing is that his X’s and O’s are a minor part of the equation to teams. Someone else will be calling the plays if he is an HC. They are saying, “if we are going to invest in our future franchise QB we want a guy that can develop him.” People will ABSOLUTELY look at that as a positive for Daboll. It’s the same reason Frank Reich got a HC job. It’s the same reason Zac Taylor got a job. It’s the same reason Kliff Kingsbury got a job. It’s the same reason Sean McVay got a job. It’s the same reason Matt Nagy got a job. It’s the same reason that Pat Shurmur got a job. Every single one of those guys got more out of the QB than people thought that they would.
  18. That’s certainly your opinion on it. However, those that cover the Carolina Panthers for a living are hearing that he’s a candidate. It’s posted earlier in the thread. I will trust the opinion of the Charlotte sports talk host over Bills message board poster.
  19. Joe Brady is a stud. Unfortunately, he isn’t going anywhere until he gets a HC job. LSU has already proven that they will pay for assistants. Dave Aranda is the highest paid assistant in the NCAA at $2.5M per year. That would make him one of the highest paid coordinators in the NFL. LSU LOVES Joe Brady and are going to open up their deep pockets.
  20. Again, he’s already being mentioned as a candidate in Carolina. Whether he will be a good HC (or even a good interview) is totally different than will he get looks. He is definitely going to get looks. He may not get a job. If he does get a job he may not be any good.
  21. Losman and EJ were raw first round picks. Allen was a raw first round pick with a higher ceiling. They aren’t all that different as prospects. Each was considered a long shot from analytical statistics. I really can’t figure out why anyone is denying the role that Daboll has had on Allen’s development? It’s really crazy to me that people don’t think teams would be interested in a guy, that worked under Saban and Belichick, and can develop young QBs. Daboll has shown that he can do the most important thing for a bad team (develop a young QB). He worked under, inarguably, the two greatest coaches of this generation. This really is shocking to me. It’s OBVIOUS why teams are looking at him. I agree with all of this That’s my guess if teams come calling. The Bills will throw some money his way to sort of “keep him happy.” It will be a good compromise.
