Free Agency News and Updates - around the league

Not IMO, situations change. He was an extreme example, as an undrafted guy that was early in a HOF career. He’s the exception to the rule. -

I think that this is a good point. It was the wrong decision but may not have mattered. -
New NFL substance policy: no more testing for pot
Kirby Jackson replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We 1,000% disagree on the subject. Everything I’ve said for years is coming to fruition as I said it would. The league cares about “the shield.” The perception of a drug problem is not good for “the shield.” It’s a self-imposed problem. The world, country and science has evolved greatly on the subject since the last CBA. The other leagues have adopted “don’t ask, don’t tell.” That’s what the NFL wants regardless of the other terms of the new CBA. They look foolish pumping out opioids and suspending for weed in 2020. This isn’t a negotiating chip because both sides want the same thing!! Now, in terms of other drugs maybe so. I’ll buy that. I’m ONLY talking about marijuana. Also, what’s your estimate on % of players that smoke? From my experience and the people that I know it’s well over 70%. -

Not wanting to be somewhere and wanting fair market value are 2 different things. Jason Peters wasn’t wrong; the Bills were. Now it wasn’t a total disaster because Wood turned out to be a quality player. The Bills certainly lost the trade though. They should have just paid Peters. -

He went for the pick that became Wood -
I fell in love with Nashville last year. I’d never really been there. That’s going on my list forever. Vegas is kind of a novelty and should be fun. I’m weird on that place though. I’ve been 6 times in my life. Twice I loved it, twice I hated it and twice I was indifferent. If either of those fall around Christmas though I’m probably out. I go back to Buffalo for that. I won’t do them back-to-back either.
-
I’m going to do Vegas and Nashville assuming that it isn’t Christmas. I may do one more (London if they’re there interests me). I did 4 road games and 2 home games last year which was just too much traveling. Houston was the only game I could drive to. It was wearing me out. I’m thinking the aforementioned 2 games, home opener and if there’s anything home around Christmas or Thanksgiving. I’ll hopefully be attending playoff games as well.
-
FWIW, I’ve heard that the Saints are in Vegas week 2. We will see I guess. I’m not sure if that will be their home opener or not. I was kind of hoping that the Bills wouldn’t be their first home game. The tickets will be triple what they’d be otherwise.

New NFL substance policy: no more testing for pot

Regardless of the 17 games or not the marijuana testing is going away. It’s not something that the owner’s want either. The NFLPA knows this. It’s not a leverage chip for that. It’s a bad look for everyone in 2020 when a player gets suspended for weed. The other leagues have already figured that out. It’s going regardless of what else comes. It’s a black eye for the league and the players. -
Will Cody Ford Be Our Starting RT Next Year?

I voted no; he will be a guard. He could be really good inside IMO but he struggled at tackle. -

If you look back over the last 3 years you’ll see me saying that’s EXACTLY what was going to happen. (pats self on back) These TBD fools -

Yeah, this was such a no brainer. The NFL didn’t want guys missing 4 games for weed any more than the NFLPA. It’s a bad look for everyone. It looks like the NFL has a drug problem while the NBA, as an example, is fine. The reality is they are all smoking weed. It’s WAY over half of the players in both leagues. The difference is the NBA treated it as “out of sight, out of mind” and the NFL played police. The NFL already has image concerns with domestic violence. It’s in their best interest to let minor stuff like weed go. That was true before it was so socially accepted but especially true during the opioid crisis. That gives them cover. Ha ha, I supplied a good number of these fools in Houston!! -

Raise your hand if you’ve been saying that this would happen for years -
Go!! Don’t live in fear. I’m going on a few weeks. It’s funny though I had a work trip Monday cancelled and one in 2 weeks cancelled. I’m thrilled about that.

I’m over the whole “not a process guy” thing. The Bills had a trade worked out for ANTONIO BROWN!!! The assumption that the Bills will only entertain certain personalities is not just misguided, it’s wrong. When Beane and McDermott arrived they wanted to establish a core in the locker room. They did that. They then negotiated a deal for ANTONIO BROWN!! Stop looking at every player through the “not a process lens” and figure out if the guy makes sense for the Bills. In Williams case, at his position and at his contract demands, I don’t think it makes sense.

Who though and at what price? -
We disagree here. He is in rapid decline and CERTAINLY was outplayed by Tannehill last year and maybe even Jimmy G at times. They are heading in different directions. Brady is a mid level starter in 2020. That’s exactly what those other guys are. With that Patriots defense those guys could absolutely win as many games as Brady would!! That’s why the Patriots are okay letting him leave. BB can be ruthless but if he thought that Brady was the best option they’d meet his number.

I’m not sure how you’re going to do better than another 900 yard receiver and a guy at 22? The guys just aren’t there. To do better you’ll have to either trade up for one of the top 3 or for a vet. -
At this point Brady is no better than those guys IMO and trending in opposite directions. The Patriots won with defense over the last 2 years not Brady. I think you’re remembering Brady at his best. 2019: Brady - 60.9% completion, 253.6 ypg, 24 TDs, 8 INTs, 6.8 YPA, 88 rating, 52.5 QBR Jimmy G - 69.1% completion, 248.6 ypg, 27 TD, 13 INTs, 9.3 ypa, 102 rating, 60.2 QBR Tannehill (extrapolated over 16 games) - 70.3% completion, 228.5 ypg, 32 TDs, 8 INTs, 9.6 YPA, 117.5 rating, 65.4 QBR Teddy (extrapolated over 16 games) - 67.9% completion, 153.8 YPG, 28 TDs, 6 INTs, 7.5 YPA, 99.1 rating, 45 QBR There isn’t a big difference at this point.

Honestly, even some people here get nostalgic (or nightmares) thinking about him staying in NE. I don’t think that’s the worst thing for us. He’s an average QB at this point that’s fairly easy to defend because he can’t get the ball outside the numbers anymore. Brady is still incredibly cerebral and crafty. However, he’s like Henry Rowengartner when he loses his fastball in “Rookie of the Year.” He has to be creative to make plays. He’s not just going to make certain throws because of his ability anymore.

Addison may very well be “plan b.” They’ll have to draft an edge early still IMO because of age if it is Addison. Sanders makes some sense too (especially if we draft a guy early). With that being said I could do a WR room of: Brown Sanders Beasley Jefferson 2 of Duke/Foster/McKenzie Roberts Edge: Addison Hughes Murphy Anae Johnson Something like this makes sense -
I think that the same can be said about drop offs in position groups. As an example there is a chasm between Chase Young and the next best edge player. There’s a gap between Ruggs/Jeudy/Lamb and the next guy. There’s a big gap between Okudah and the guy that goes next. The Bills always seem to chase the “last guy in a tier” like they did last year with Ford and Knox. That’s why they traded up in both cases. The identified players before the drop off and went to get them. Keep this in mind in round 2 IMO. Bradlee Anae is a guy I have my eye on.

I was just going to say the same thing on Clowney. Don’t forget Gaine wanted to pay him and O’Brien didn’t. I think that the Bills make AT LEAST 1 (maybe 2) splash moves in FA or via trade. As of right now, Clowney would be at or near the top of the “likelihood list” IMO. In fact, they probably already have a real sense for the number from Gaine’s conversations when he was in Houston.
