Count me in the group that wants neither of these things to happen. I don’t want Clowney with the Jets and don’t want Jameis’ talent in New England. I’d much rather Dalton there. He’s a lot less dangerous with a way lower ceiling. I think that the Bills are better than the Pats now. If New England somehow harnessed Jameis’ talent that could flip. If they signed Dalton they can’t pass the Bills IMO.

If the Bills went Dobbins, Bowden, edge rusher I would be ecstatic

I think that’s one of the reasons that I was against Shenault in the 1st. I didn’t want to the Bills to “need” him. He’s raw and that was risky. With the room as it is now, he’s appealing as a weapon and role player.

They haven’t accounted for Jefferson, Matakevich, or Taiwan Jones yet. They are likely closer to $24Mish I would suspect. If they plan to extend any of their own guys they don’t have a ton of flexibility.

He has too many concerns for me in the 1st but would be a worthwhile gamble in the 2nd. I agree, that he has a lot of those “McKenzie skills” that help complete that WR room. FWIW, I’ve heard that the Bills were a little underwhelmed with the receiving prospects which is how the Diggs trade started (and not just the Higgins workout). Now, I don’t know if that means all of them or just the guys that they thought they could draft. They were smart, realizing that they needed a number 1 not another receiver. If they didn’t come away from the combine/workouts thinking that they had a shot at a number 1 this route made sense. They may see value from rounds 2 on.

I read something a couple of months ago that said something to the tune of “the overwhelming majority of teams that I’ve spoken to think Brandon Ayiuk is a better prospect than N’Keal Harry was a year ago.” That’s stuck with me. Now I realize this WR class is MUCH deeper, it feels like Ayiuk may be one of those guys that teams like more than talking heads.

The Bills have limited cap space remaining for 2020. They can sign someone like Gordon but the cap space has dried up for the most part. With Gurley now off the board I would lean towards Hyde. He’s the right combination of cost and effectiveness. He’s coming off a nice year.

There are a lot of options on the market for RB still. Personally, I’d prefer to add one in the draft but that’s not the point here. If you HAD to add one of these guys to the Bills who would it be? You must factor in cost, fit, injury history, skill set, etc... It is NOT as simple as “which one of these guys is best?” The question is, “which one of these guys would you like the Bills to add?”

Higgins as a FA. I’m interested in him.

This is a good and underrated point. At the same time a lot less guys are early round busts. There is so much information and film on these guys that it is tougher to miss. It is also easily transferred between parties. We also have All-22 types of angles and HD, etc... There is just a lot more than there was even 10-15 years ago. It is going to keep trending that way as technology and analytics keep advancing. It’s not like Kevin Bacon having to fly to the jungle in “The Air Up There” to discover an elite basketball prodigy. Now those guys are everywhere, Siakam, Embiid, etc...

This is where I’m at. If we say Shaq & Phillips are cancelled out by Addison and Butler then you added Jefferson. You can rearrange those in any way that you see fit but however you slice it the Bills have one more quality DL vs. last year.

I think RT is the biggest need on the roster at the moment. I just don’t see the guy that moves the needle. The only needle mover on the market for the Bills still is Clowney IMO.

Well, if they were interested it would absolutely be at Murphy’s expense. It’s a situation where they may say “Murphy at $10M or Clowney at $18M?” That’s the kind of decision that they would make. The $8M savings from Murphy would immediately be applied to Clowney.

I never understood the bolded. What does that mean? Athletes want to go to the best situation. There are a lot of factors with money being at or near the top. I never got the “he won’t want to be in Buffalo” sentiment. In general, the Bills have always recruited well in FA. With his market dropping I think it becomes more likely. Maybe that wasn’t their plan but at some point the value meets the opportunity. I’m not saying it’s likely but the odds increase every hour that passes.

Yeah, there are certainly concerns. It’s the type of “all in” move that a team makes chasing a Super Bowl. You gamble and hope to be right. It’s a move I’d be interested in. I’m not as high on Ngakoue personally and he’d cost draft compensation as well. I wouldn’t hate it but may prefer Murphy + picks + savings in that case.

If you are looking at his sacks you are missing his impact. His pressure rate ranks right there with the best in the league. He’s in the backfield often. He’s really good against the run as well (where Murphy has a target on his back in the run game). Murphy is an okay player. Clowney is a dominant player (albeit it sometimes inconsistent). There is a reason that Seattle is trying hard to bring him back.

I don’t see Clowney getting $20M. That’s what he wanted and hasn’t yet seen the market there. I’d shoot for Clowney at 3 years , $54M with $32M guaranteed (something like that). I’d give Clowney $18M a year over $10M a year for Murphy 8 days a week. That pretty much guarantees that the Bills have the best defense in the league. Additionally, you would have him for a couple more years which is important. Murphy and Hughes could be in their last year and Addison is 33.

He definitely played better late last year. I thought there was no chance that he was coming back this year. At this point I believe that he will be back. With that being said if the Bills were to chase Clowney or Ngakoue Murphy’s release will definitely be a part of that. The $8M of space from him would be needed.

That’s still not accounting for Jefferson or Matakevich. There may be more still.

I almost took him the pick before but Adams has a ton of talent. He just has some injury questions. When Reed was still there it was an easy decision. I would be thrilled if the Bills got both of them at that point.

Are we sure that $40M accounts for everyone? I didn’t think Butler, Jefferson, etc.. we’re accounted for
