Backup running back - how about going back to 2018?
Kirby Jackson replied to Coach55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That feels pretty unfair when everything he’s said is to the contrary (including his interview with Tre). By all accounts, including his, he loved his time in Buffalo. Additionally, he’s fighting FOR a NFL roster spot this year. He will go anywhere that is interested. With that being said, he’s done. There are a lot better options out there. -

What’s this based on? Shady was a great player. He is no longer a good player. -
Too early for that Paul

This is a good topic @elijah. I’m trying not to overthink it. Milano is a better player, imo, than Dawkins but it is a lot harder to find a quality LT. For that reason it is Dawkins.

Interesting Player Starting to Slide
Kirby Jackson replied to Madd Charlie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My question is why is it a “waste?” What player picked in round 2 is going to have a greater impact on this team, this year? Even if Singletary is healthy another RB is going to touch the ball 8-10 times a game. If Singletary is out that number moves closer to 20. There’s a clear path to playing time for a RB (which there isn’t pretty much anywhere else on the roster). Additionally, there are likely 5 RBs to come off the board between picks 20 and 60. That’s a situation where need and BPA could come together. It’s entirely possible that the Bills take one of those 5 guys at 54. To be clear, I’m not saying, “the Bills will definitely take a RB at 54.” I’m saying, “it is entirely POSSIBLE to foresee a situation where the Bills go RB at 54.” If I had to put odds on the position picked in round 2 would probably look like this: RB +100 S +125 Edge +150 OT +150 CB +250 WR +250 LB +300 IOL +350 DT +350 TE +450 QB +1200 Both -

Why not 2nd? The Bills are going to draft BPA (as they should). It’s entirely possible that BPA in round 2 is one of those 4 or 5 RBs (Swift, Dobbins, Taylor, Edwards-Helaire, Akers). It doesn’t have to be a RB there but it could be a situation of “BPA meets last remaining need.” The other thing is that RB is the one position that they didn’t address in FA. That tells me that they want another young guy. Everywhere else they tried to add bodies to insulate against having to pick a guy. RB is the only position on the entire roster that they have to pick a guy at. This could obviously change between now and the draft if they add someone like Hyde, Miller or Freeman. As of today though, that’s not the case. -

Personally, I think that RB is the last immediate need on this team. The Bills can sustain an injury to any other position on the roster (except QB and most can’t sustain that). If Singletary goes down the running game goes too and he did miss five games as a rookie. Even if Motor is healthy another RB is going to play 30% of the offensive snaps. The Bills have to add another high end option. -
There are a couple of things that we disagree on. I’m fairly confident at this point that Justin Jefferson will be the 4th WR off the board. I think that the QBs are a little low. You have them more in line with their value but it feels like people always panic and overdraft them. It would be a surprise if only 2 went in the top 10. I just think Miami takes one with their first pick. Really like where you have Baun, Fulton and Gallimore. Those are all guys that aren’t consistently mocked in round 1 that I think will go there. They all are guys that I could see scouts really liking. @GunnerBill nice job as always!!

Is Josh Allen really a franchise QB?
Kirby Jackson replied to Big Curt's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This pretty much sums it up fairly and accurately. -
I agree with that. At this point though, Cooks isn’t worth a 2nd and Diggs is worth the equivalent of pick 18. Cooks was a nice player when he came into the league here. Always found it odd that teams were so okay moving on from him (and good franchises too). Both New Orleans and New England were comfortable. That says a lot to me. It’s says even more that the genius, Bill O’Brien wanted him lol.

It’s is by far, stop looking at stats. Start looking at skill sets, how they were used, and career to date. Cooks is a talented guy with a zillion concussions. He’s on a new team every two years for a reason. Diggs is an elite route runner, elite in contested ball chances, very good after the catch and can stretch the field. He’s also durable. If you asked 32 NFL GMs all 32 would take Diggs. That’s where the “by far” comes into play. This isn’t a “Allen/Darnold” situation where some people like one vs. the other. This is unanimous 32-0.

I took the ultimate Switzerland route here and said maybe. Maybe to me though depends more on what transpires between now and then. I’d lean towards yes if I had to pick but if a game was played today I would be a no. My “yes” lean is assuming that we continue to learn and improve the situation between now and then. I don’t necessarily need the vaccine to go but need some progress from this current situation.

Another failed amateur football league. The XFL was, by miles, the best of them. There was some talent, solid exposure and interesting rules. I think that without the Coronavirus it would have had a decent chance to see year 2. With the WWE stock crashing though it became difficult. I just really wish that I would have bet a parlay that each league would last no more than a year. I would have gotten great odds at the time.

That’s where we disagree. So far, every trade that he’s made he has lost IMO. That’s why he is so heavily criticized around the league. Most people win some and lose some. The bad GMs win 30% of the time and lose 70%; the greats are the opposite. BOB is operating with like a 10% win ratio (at best).

Let’s Get it Buffalo by Diggs Himself

Can the season start now? -
You’re giving him way too much credit. He turned around and drafted another OT in the first in 2019. Obviously he’d prefer to not deal with an AFC team. That goes without saying. The point is, that he is on the losing end of every deal that he makes. Even if you make a “lesser” deal with him you probably end up winning it. I’m not saying that there is a deal to be made. I’m saying, shoot for something that you think is unlikely because he has a track record of losing trades. I’m nervous that Miami is going to offer him a couple (or even 3) 1sts for Watson and he’s going to take it. All of a sudden Miami is a force. They would have turned a very good LT into an elite QB essentially. That’s BOB in a nutshell. If he’s handing out free money I’m just saying make the call and see if he will give you some.

You really think Jarrett Stidham is going to complete 61% of his passes for 4,100 yards and a 3:1 TD to INT ratio? I don’t. They have the worst QB situation in the league right now (by a lot). As it stands it would take ELITE coaching for them to move from 32 to say 25. Again, that can change if they add somebody but as of now they are awful at QB. They lost their legendary OL coach to retirement. Their OL should be an above average unit but with a new QB and Scarnecchia retiring is it unreasonable to think that they may regress to average? It’s probably likely. Their skill players are at, or near, the bottom oF the league as well. That’s a huge reason that Brady left. He didn’t trust anyone but Edelman. They lost their 2 top pass rushers in Van Noy and Collins. They couldn’t replace them because of cap issues. The secondary is one of the best in football but will be negatively impacted by one of football’s worst pass rushes. In terms of 2008 it is irrelevant to this conversation. Matthew Slater is the only player on this Patriots roster that was on that team. The 2007 team was 16-0!! Of course when they showed up in 2008, Brady or not, they were going to be good. They had an elite roster. They were 11-5. This team is not that team. This Patriots team lost the greatest QB of all-time, it’s 2 top pass rushers, the best OL coach in the league and it’s run stuffing DT. None of those people were adequately replaced. If there is anyone on this board that want to take the Patriots over 9.5 wins I’d be happy to book that for you. I reserve the right to change depending on whether or not they add a QB. At the moment though this team is bad. We shouldn’t think that they will automatically be good because they were 12 years ago when Brady was out. They aren’t the same guys. We have such PTSD from them. We really don’t want to believe that they are bad because we feel like we are setting ourselves up to be hurt. Objectively, look at this roster and tell me how many games that they win? Keep in mind that they play the toughest schedule in football. 2020 Pats If you changed the logo from the Patriots to the Lions, people would be arguing that team would have a shot at Trevor Lawrence. BB’s genius probably prevents that from happening. They are about a 6 win team.
-
Those team’s were WAY better than this one though. That’s like saying, “I worry about UNC football because that Mack Brown team in 2006 was good.” They aren’t the same guys. The Patriots went 16-0 the year before Cassel played. What kind of roster did they have? They won the Super Bowl the year of Brady’s suspension I think. Their defense lost Van Noy, Collins and Shelton. They lost 3 key guys in the front 7. That defense was GREAT early last year and pretty good as time went on. They are a totally different unit. That’s the equivalent of the Bills defense losing Hyde, Poyer and Milano in 1 offseason and not replacing him. We’d have to view them differently even though they were good last year. BB is a genius. That’s the reason that they may get to 6 wins with that schedule. Look at this Patriots depth chart. How are they going to score? How are they going to rush the passer? This is a bad team and everyone is scared to say it because they are always good. This is a different team however. The days of the Patriots winning double-digit games because of the uniforms that they put on are over.
