Who were the most UNDERUTILIZED Bills in history
Buftex replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Beebe could make some of the toughest catches, but then turn around and drop the easy ones, He had his moments, but wasn't real reliable. -
Could a DeSean and LeSean reunion be in the works?
Buftex replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lofton had a bit of an off-field history at that time whcih people seem to have mostly forgotten...pre-internet...and people wondered the same thing. It worked out altight. -
It tried way too hard...it was murky, just for the sake of murky.

I remember hearing Joe Montana once making the same point, about his own career. His point was that how you play is very much influenced by where and when you play, for most guys. It is an obvious point, but one that isn't considered enough, in my opinion. I have little doubt had Tom Brady been a sixth round draft pick by the Bills or Lions in 2001, he would be a foot-note in team history.

Though I watched the season premiere last night, and thought it was pretty good, like you, I hated season 2. Season 1 was, in my opinion, brilliant, right up until the time in the second to last episode (I think) where McConoughey and Harrelson's characters met up in current time...then it kind of unraveled with an almost Scooby-Doo kind of ending... Season 3, first two episodes, were pretty similar in tone to Season 1.... don't want to give anything away, but it might not hurt to re-watch season 1 before season 3.

Best and worst endings for long running series
Buftex replied to Steve O's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Smart man! Not sure if I hated te Deadwood finale that much, but it certainly was unsatisfying. The show in my opinion, was just really hitting its stride and then just ended. Hoping the new movie will rectify that. Dexter would have been much better, if it had eneded about 3 or 4 years earlier...everything after the Trinity killer story was pretty bad. For me: the best" Sopranos and Rectify Worst: Mad Men. Absoluely love this show...but the finale, though kind of funny, was a little too trite for such a weighty show. -
Brandon Reilly (Former Bill) now in Dallas

In fairness, Naaman did make a few plays! -
Not that I have any skin in the game, but in what makes GEICO a "lousy insurance company"? I have been using them for auto insurance for about 12 years now, and I think they are awesome...at least as awesome as an insurance company can be. Anyway, I do agree, for some reason, GEICO, and Progressive both have pretty good ad campaigns...

How Much Pressure Was Doug Whaley Under To Win?
Buftex replied to BillyWhiteShows's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Huh? How exactly did Whaley "force" EJ Manuel down our throats? Manuel, a first round draft pick QB (who was drafted by his predecessor) started 10 games his rookie season, and only 7 more games in the next 3 seasons. I think you could make the argument that Manuel wasn't really given much of a chance at all. I get it, Manuel wasn't very good, but if a franchise drafts a QB in the first round, you would think he would get a little more time...and a good GM would realize, you have to give him that chance. Marrone, effectively, ended Manuels career after 11 starts...Whaley hardly pushed him down anybody's' throat. Rex Ryan was pretty much the defacto GM the minute he got hired. Whaley wasn't really given a real shot to be a real GM. There have been stories out there that Whaley, as pro personnel director of the Bills suggested Nix take Russell Wilson in 2012...and was in favor of drafting Mitch Trubisky during his last draft. -

Oil of Dog was the best...WZRD and CFNY were my favorites. You know, Gary Storm still has his Oil of Dog show on KSFR out of Santa Fe, New Mexico...Mondays and Tuesdays at midnight! https://www.ksfr.org/

I'll take a shot at the 2019 offense FA's
Buftex replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Other than White (bust, waste of time at this point), Cook (would command too much money, and is getting up there in age) and Bell (I'd rather stick with Shady another year, and draft a replacement in rounds 2-5, than spend this money), I like your other picks. Conely and Tyrell WIlliams are both intriguing for me...both could likely be had for resonable prices, and both still have upside. -
EJ Manuel: What went wrong after year 1?

EJ Manuel: What went wrong after year 1?
Buftex replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know it is an unpopular opinion, and ultimately he probably was never going to be an upper echelon starter, but he really didn't get much of a shot in Buffalo. For a guy who was drafted as high as he was, he only had 10 starts before Marrone, essentially gave up on him. Even Jamarcus Russell, the standard for modern NFL QB bust got 15 consecutive starts in his second season (missed most of his rookie season with holdout and injury issues) before the Raiders pulled the plug on him. Really, after the first 5 games of his rookie season, Manuel had 12 more starts, spread out over 4 seasons. Before he got injured against Cleveland, on that Thursday night game, he was 2-2 as a starter, and I think most Bills fans were cautiously optimisitic that the Bills might have a decent QB. But that injury, 5 games into his career, pretty much sealed his fate. He never really had a real shot after that. Not necessarily blaming Marrone, but he just had no committment to the first round pick. I do feel like he could have improved with more playing time. I agree with you, but their passing stats are pretty similar in their rookie years...EJ has a slight edge in completion % and TD/INT ratio. But, obviously, Allens' mobility (and pulse) give him a huge edge. -
Christmas Movie All-Time Recommendations
Buftex replied to NoHuddleKelly12's topic in Off the Wall Archives
One that rarely gets mentioned, one of my top 10 movies of all time, Christmas or otherwise: "Diner" It stars Micky Rourke (pre-freak era), Steve Gutenburg (pre-obnoxious era), Daniel Stern, Tim Daily, Paule Rieser, Ellen Barkin and (yes) Kevin Bacon. Excellent film any time of the year, but it takes place in Baltimore, 1059, Christmas time. Directed by the great Barry Levinson. It came out in 1983, kind of a pre-curser to Seinfeld, in my opinion. Very dialouge driven....really funny, and poingnent. And, it even has an NFL football angle... -
Bing Crosby does Jim Morrison....or it the other way around?

I was parodying B-Mans *****...he knew what Trump meant, even though it wasn't what he said. We can all hear things the way we want to.
-
Any more ludicrous than what B-Man posted?
-
Whatever... a weak response from a Trump loon...I am crushed... I don't laugh at you, I cringe at the lengths you will go to feel good about supporting this nonsense...

Keith Richards, Joe Strummer, Mick Jones (Clash), Jerry Lee Lewis, John Entwistle, Lou Reed...tons of musicians.... Perhaps my most prized, and unique, is Larry Birds autograph, as forged by Kevin McHale.

And I always understood "you can keep your doctor" to mean "if the bill passes the way it is presented, rather than carved apart to appease lunatics on the right, you will be able to continue seeing whatever doctor you want". But, you know how that goes... It is nice that you can make up a narrative that helps you feel better about your blind support for this garbage of an administration. You may have understood it the way you did...but its' not what he said...and it certainly isn't the way he acted when he first took office. He worked his con-man magic into his blind followers lowering their expectations of him...

Favorite, and least favorite, Christmas songs.
Buftex replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I think this one is pretty briliant...I know most people never listen to the things that are linked, but give this one a chance....give it a little over a minute to catch its stride.. -
Where are all the Ivory should start posts?
Buftex replied to Dadonkadonk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think designing more plays that feature McCoy catching passes out of the backfield would really help the offense a lot...and it would give McCoy a chance to have space to move. It seemed very early in the season they were running some screens...but they have pretty much disappeared. -
Maybe Anthony Lynn wouldn't have been such a bad hire after all? Chargers players all praising him, the reason they are winning games like this now... They have had so much talent, seems like they might be finally "learning how to win"
