Casey Anthony found not guilty of murder
Buftex replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Well, one of the reasons (not the only I am sure) these other cases don't make as much noise as the Anthony trial, is that the parents are arrested, and go down without a fight. Most confess to their crime, or plead insanity. So, there isn't a lot of nuance. This case started like most of these type cases, volunteers searching for a missing child. I suspect, in most cases, the defendent didn't go to the extrodinary measures that Casey Anthony did, to mislead the investigators. That is part of the reason this story took on such a huge profile, because it got extended for what seemed like years...primarily becuase the defendant was leading everyone on wild goose chases. -

I would agree with that, but, people are wrongly imprisoned pretty regularly, and people get away with things regualarly. So, I just think you have to take it on a case by case basis, and hope you get a lot more things right than you do wrong. It s a less than perfect system. I am thouroughly convinced this woman is guilty of more than just lying to police. She knows what happnened to her child. That said, the jury followed their instructions, and came up with the verdict that they did. At least two jurors, already, have said they don't feel like she is innocent, but they weren't even sure what the crime was (was it pre-meditated murder, or was it covering up a death, after an accident?), so they couldn't sentence her to death. And, I understand that. If the prosecuters weren't bent on going for the death penalty, we might have had a different outcome. -
Enuf is definitely enuf...

It must be her...the first sentence from this article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=6742941 "ESPN analyst and former NHL forward Matthew Barnaby was ordered Wednesday to complete 500 hours of community service to have charges dropped stemming from an argument he had with his estranged wife in May."

Funny you say that, because the perception from observers was that the jury was slanted toward the prosecutors. All were death penalty proponents, which was taken to mean they would be more likely to find her guilty. As for the quality of the jury, do you really think someone with a DWI, or who doesn't have a high school degree should be eliminated from consideration for jury duty? With those standards, you would have a great deal of difficulty finding a jury in almost any jury trial. I really can't fault the jury. We all have a pretty strong feeling that she is guilty, but, as cliche as it is, the burden of proof was with the state, and they simply couldn't prove the case, physically. They couldn't establish the cause of death, and really didn't have strong physical evidence...just very strong circumstantial evidence. Of note...hearing rumors that Casey Anthony will be coming to live with us here in Texas, with an aunt...we get to add Casey Anthony and Glen Beck to our population -

Too bad the DA didn't go along with the defense, when the defense was asking for a mistrial. hat is so bad about the jurys decision, Casey Anthony can not be charged again in this case. If, say, somebody decided to look into the father, George, and his connection to his homocide, I wonder, could Casey even be a witness? It just seems like the verdict (or maybe the DA's "overcharege" demadning the death penalty) insures that somebody in that house will get away with murder. That is so fugged up, when you know it absolutely had to be 1 of 2 people. That said, I don't fault the jury. As in the OJ Simpson case, those observing from outside the jury bench were privy to more information. The defense attorney did a masterful job of casting doubt on the states case...no doubt Jose Baez will be hosting his own show on one of the "news" networks in the next year...what is particularly galling, to me, is all the pundits, after the fact, disagreeing with the jury verdict, but then going on about how "great the American justice system is"...how is this great for anyone, other than Casey Anthony, Jose Baez and his team? It may not be on monumental importance, but, bigger picture, it just makes the level of cynicism about American justice a little deeper. And you just can't lose sight of the fact that an innocent child got treated like a piece of trash, by her own blood. -
Anyone here about his status with ESPN? Melrose was their only hockey guy throughout the playoffs.

Just a heads up... Buffalo Bills 2010 Yearbook highlight film is scheduled to show: ESPN2 Saturday, July 23rd, at 1:30 Eastern. If you plan on recording it, I recommnend recording an extra 30 minutes before and after, just in case. There is a live MMA event on prior to it. It has been my experience, any live event always runs longer than the alloted time, so everything gets pushed back.

Casey Anthony found not guilty of murder

She will be free on Thursday...she already served 32 months. She isn't likely to get much more than that for misdemenors. The judge, in this case, doesn't seem vindicitive, and whether he thinks she is guilty or not, I seriously doubt he will try to extend this for her. Ironically, the things she was found guilty of, lying to the police, repeatedly, only extended the time it took to find a body, and, in this case, her lying helped her. So, crime does pay, sometimes. Great lesson learned. Whether she killed that baby, or it was an accident, or somebody else killed the baby...I have no doubt that Casey Anthony knows what happened, and who is responsible. Another thing I find ironic, Casey's mother, perjured herself under oath. If that charge was pursued (and I know it won't be...why extend this farce and embarass the courts any more?), she could face up to 15 years in prison. -
PTR, if you like Little Stevens show...check out this band, Jungle Rockers...buds of mine here in Austin...transplanted from Cleveland...I believe Litte Steven has played them a time or two...nothing radical, just good rock-N-roll!

Not only that John, once it was reported, she lied, over and over again, giving the police false leads, and loads of false information about fictitious people and places...she would even admit to the cops that she lied, but she was doing it to help find her child...but the defense attorney did a pretty convincing job of painting a portrait of a girl who learned to lie, from her parents. And her parents, obviously, were less than truthful along the way...I might have written some of that off as parents trying to come to terms with the fact that their daughter is a murder...but the jury doesn't get to hear all of the evidence that we do. The sick thing is, somebody in that house knows who killed this child, and how she died...it is likely Casey, but there was a reasonable amount of doubt placed at the hands of her father, an ex-cop. He did some pretty strange things during the course of the investigation...his reactions seem almost as dubious as his daughters. Casey can't be tried again for this murder, and it almost seems that someone has to build a case against her father...wonder how that go... -

Sorry Poojer...and everyone else... For me, my gf has been glued to this story for, what seems years...most of last year...we split up for 5 months, got back together, and I was hearing all about it, again...I even made the joke, when we got back together that I was getting back together with her, and Nancy Grace... I wasn't really interested either...but sheer volumes of exposure, and, the sense that "it is finally going to be over" piqued my curiosity enough, yesterday, to watch a fair amount of the closing arguments. It really was amazing court-room drama...real Perry Mason type stuff. I will admit, I followed the Simpson trial as closely as you could, in those days, with a full time job, and without internet access. I have three lawyers in my family (one in criminal law), so, stuff like this either really interests me, or really bores me...a little bit of both in this case. But, there is also a sense, real or not, that this is one of those handful of events that comes along, a few times every decade, where people remember where they were, or how they heard about it, when the moment happened. -

It is almost a replay of OJ Simpson all over again. You know she did it, but the prosecutes really didn't have enough physical evidence, and, obviously, not only was Casey Anthony a born liar, it appears both of her parents have an aversion to the truth...there had to have been many lies told under oath on that stand... -
Alright young American....try this one...Townes Van Zandt "Marie"...

Yes, long-time, life-time Stones fan...I know it has been ages since they did anything memorable (though I loved to "Exile" un-released stuff they put out last year), but what they did from 1963-1978, is, for the most part, as good as it gets, rock-n-roll wise. Jones was a big part of that, for me. His legend, no doubt, is greater because of the circumstances of his death. According to Keith Richards bio, the rest of the band pretty much carried Brian, once they started making money...he was more interested in being a rock star, than he was in being a musician. A shame, cuz the guy was gifted. As for the Doors, I still like a couple of their songs..."Riders On the Storm" as cliche as it is, still holds some resonance, it is just a very cool sounding song. Also like "People Are Strange" and, love "Moonlight Drive". But yeah, I think they were kind of lightweight, in compared to their legend. Morrison had a good voice, but they lyrics are pretty inane at times....a good singles band, but I could live without most of their stuff. "Touch Me" might as well be Englebert Humperdink, or Tom Jones...I sure one of them must have recorded it... There are other artists from that time, like, say, the Zombies ("Tell Her No", "Time of The Season", etc) who aren't really considered great, in general, but their non-single stuff is really interesting, and, a bit innovative... I think "No One Here Gets Out Alive" kind of vaulted Morrison to a status that wasn't really warranted...when I was in Jr High/high school (I'm 46), everyone read that book...Morrison became the heartthrob for stoner girls, and his legend was just inflated... Anyways, I agree, Doors, highly overrated...

The anniversary of the deaths of two "forgotten" rebels. Brian Jones died 42 years ago today (1969), drowning in a swimming pool. Jim Morrison drown in a bath tub exactly two years later, in 1971. Jim Morrison's "Ode To LA, While Thinking of Brian Jones, Deceased"... Never a big Doors/Morrison fan...but the Brian Jones Stones?

Californian's online purchases to be taxed
Buftex replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Texas billed Amazon for unpaid sales taxes totaling close to 270 million, for the period of December 2006 through December 2009...so that comes out to 90 million a year, for this state. -

Speaking of Beck, he is renting a home near Austin...more reason to think about leaving... They are saying this could be something to do with Rick Perry's impending candidacy...doomsday! Boomer Esiason, doing a Monday Night Football game, on the radio, involving the Eagles. Former Bill, Jason Peters, had a very bad game...Boomer said (paraphrasing): "Jason Peters is an incredible story...an undrafted free agent tight end for the Bills, converted to left tackle, and managed to cash in, here in Philadelphia...tonight, he looks like an undrafted free agent tight end..."
