Riter Radio is a thing of the past (at least on WECK)
Buftex replied to theesir's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like GR, when there is something Bills or Sabres specific going on (ie: a story), but I find the in-between stuff pretty mind numbing. I like Howard Simon okay, but I can't stand his partner...he argues about everything, even when there is nothig to argue about. He definitely seems to fill the role fo the guy who just has to take an unpopular opinion, just for the sake of arguing. My secret to enjoying GR, is to just listen to the archived stuff...interviews and such. It isn't so bad when you listen that way. During the football season, I "discovered" the 97Rock pre-game show, which I kind of enjoy. -

Perpetuating the urban myth that giving the wealthy tax breaks (it is really "tax spending") somehow creates this class of "job producers", ay? The fact that they are paying less tax than ever, making record profits, while the economy continues to circle the drain means nothig I suppose. More important to save the industry of private jets, than, say, our tanking educational system...and, let me ask, didn't Obama get a ton of **** just a year ago, for extending the Bush tax cuts? Has it helped anything? Did it help anything during Bush's tenure? Obama has really only extended the misery of Bush's fiscal irresponsibilty, and for that, he deserves all the criticism he gets. Lets try something else now? Hey, I never claimed to be reasonable! I think there are reasonable people in the Republican party, but they are finding out that being adult, or reasonable, isn't going to work. I think John Boehner is reasonable, but is not leading his party in a responsible way, because he hears the Tea Party zealots...Mitt Romney is a reasonabel person, but he is making himself look like an idiot, trying to appease the Tea Party base that he needs to win the candidacy for his party. -

We shall see, eryn...you remember 2008? The world was going to change, or so many thought.. Republicans had their moment to make a bold move, but have gotten some power, and are now just going back to their old ways...the Democratic party is a mess...but the Republican party is as dysfunctional as it gets...the party has been hijacked (as is its' history) by the Tea Party...there is no room for reasonable people in that party. -

Which is exactly what the president proposed...but anything that ivolves raising taxes is "off the table" for Republicans. Even though, many see the need, they also realize that they won their big victory last fall, by making a promise they now have to keep, no matter how much it hurts everyone...sounds a little familiar huh? -

Every time I go back home, my parents (both in their 80's) bemoan the fact that WECK is gone...the way they knew it...I mean, where else could you hear Tony Randall sing "For the Benefit Of Mr Kite" every now and again! Oh well, I guess the only thing to do is implore GR to be better! -
Yes, really good band. They are the backig band for Robbie Roberston, on his new album.

Raise The Debt Limit Already!
Buftex replied to Dave_In_Norfolk's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, John Boehner claims that "the American people do not want more taxes"...which is only partly correct. They don't want more taxes for everyone, just the extremely weatlthy (you know, the phantom "job creators"), and every poll shows this...so, when the Republicans blow a missed opportunity, I suspect they will change their tune, once again...the fact that Bachmann is a viable candidate says more about the make-up of the Republican party than anything. It appears, Republicans, and most PPP'ers are very out of touch with this country. Patience may be good for them, but I wouldn't recommend holding their breaths. At some point, the "needs of the many" will outweigh the "benefits of the few". btw- "beating up on the productive class" is hilarious...wtf are you talking about? -
Another great Austin band...been kicking around for about a decade! Good call!

Yes, the corporate jet tax was the key to the whole thing! Funny you bring that up, because it only further illustrates how set the Republican party is, they are backing themselves into a corner, and very little of it has to do with what is best for the country. No, better to go along, waiting for all these "job creators" to invest back into the American economy...or buy an extra sweater for the chilly fall... -
Kinda sounds like you have had a run in with Taibbi?

From what I have read, Obamas grand plan would have cut $3 spending for every $1 collected in new taxes. I don't know how anyone can claim the Republicans are serious about wanting to balance things. Obama may have his problems, but the Republican party is a friggin' mess... -
Well...give Dave_in_Norfolk a press pass then. I can't believe that Bachmann and Santorum agreed to sign this...the slavery issue is the first bullet point on the document...why do Republicans love to pledge so much...I am sure Bachmann was more concerned about the "pray the gay away" aspect...she is proving to be only a more articulate version of Palin...Bachmanns defense is incredibly telling...this is the equivalent of those times when people saying things like "Hitler wasn't all bad, he did some good things, but went too far". And Republicans, or moreover, Tea Party Republicans, to this day, are bewildered that they are dubbed as racists.

I am very hot on Those Darlins right now...going to San Antonio weekend after next to check them out, for the third time this year...

Not saying your wrong (I really don't know), but if the players get 48% of the profits (what is being reported) would that not include pre-season as well? Honestly, I would hazard to guess that many players want the prep-season. For some, that is that may the only time they have a chance to distinguish themselves. The guys who skip it every year, or most of it, are amongst the handful of players who are "made men" in the NFL.

Taibbi is great! And, he has been equally unflattering to Republicans and Democrats, when they deserve it. I don't like either, but I think Palin is less crazy than Bachmann, which is saying something.

You could just go to Flays for their 3.99 filet lucnhes...no kids under 15!

Great Bachmann piece by Matt Taibbi from Rolling Stone: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/michele-bachmanns-holy-war-20110622?page=4

Marcus was able to "pray the gay away"...why can't the rest? It seems to be working for Gov Perry too!

I think it is hilarious (and kind of sad) that Obama haters are seeing Rick Perry as their savior...

Maybe next time Goodell takes the mic, fans should start chaning "We want OTA's! We want OTA's!!!" That will get their attention! Anyways, I feel your pain, but unless the regular season is affected, the lockout, as much a drag as it might be, (after all, we are watching a battle of billionaires vs millionaires, instead of FA, where we see millionaires become mere multi-millionaires), but in the end, it is a labor issue...none of us are owners or players. This is the kind of stuff that they do in the off season. We still get our draft, and our spiffy new uniforms!

It was actually Gil Brandt, who used to be the big honcho for the Cowboys, during the Landry days...now is an NFL insider. I think he is basically saying, there are some teams that would be open to signing Favre (Arizona and Seattle namely) if he should desire to come back...and assuming the Vikings would allow it. As for the boycott...it is just silly. Unless the season is altered, the lockout doesn't really have any impact on us fans. You can treat the pre-season with as much ambivialance as you desire, like any other year. As long as the 16 game regular season stays in tact, other than delaying free agency, what has it done to us, as fans?

Casey Anthony found not guilty of murder
Buftex replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
First, like many, I think the jury in this case did their job, and the case made by the state was not strong enough to sentence this woman to death. I have very little doubt that she was involved, somehow, in her daughters death. And, I agree, taking the chance of sentencing someone to life in prison, or death, when there is the chance that they might be innocent, no matter how small that chance, is vital. But, I keep hearing this rote response that "better to let one guilty person go, than sentence an innocent person". That would be great, if it meant that letting this one person, possibly slide, does nothing to ensure that an innocent person will not be found guilty...I just think it is a silly response. One case has nothing to do with another. And that is one of the fugged up things about this case. One of the jurors admits, he couldn't get the idea of George Anthony sexually abusing his daughter, out of his head. The defense laid out this theory, and did not have one shred of evidence to back it up, not even circumstantial evidence, other than the word of their client, who they are admitting, is truth challenged. But it tainted GA's testimony...I know, it is up to the state to make their case for guilt, but the defense, IMO, was not held to any level of responsibility. -
Casey Anthony found not guilty of murder
Buftex replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
They do have enough evidence to prove, I think, that somebody who had access to the Anthony home committed this murder, or, went way out of their way to cover up an "accident". What little physical evidence they do have, all leads back to that house. -
I normally try to make it up for a game every year, usually around Christman or Thanksgiving. I will tell you though, back in the summer of 2007, my mom had a stroke, so I went up to Buffalo to visit with her. It just happened to be the same week that training camp opened. I went to the first practice of camp, and I had a blast...probably more fun than I did at the last few games I went to. We got to meet a bunch of the players, including the whole rookie class (minus Marshawn, who wasn't in camp yet) and tons of autographs. It was really fun. My nephews, who I have always had to sort of badger into becoming sports fans, became Bills fans that day. I hadn't been to a training camp since I was about 14 or 15, so it was almost 30 years ago. And, back then, it wasn't as fan friendly as what they do in Rochester. Great time...it would be a shame if they didn't have a training camp. I have been to a handful of Cowboys training camps, back in the 90's when they were still good, as well as Falcons camps...they didn't compare to the Rochester experiencs, IMO. Of course, I hate the Cowboys, and am sort of ambivalent about the Falcons!
