Caption the pic, Michele Bachmann edition
Buftex replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Not a caption, but an observation....Bachmann looks like Marilyn Manson in that pic... -
If Nix had the track record that BB and co. had, it would be irrelevant. That said, I would not be surprised to see Ochocinco being the odd man out. I really think his game has been on the decline for two seasons now...I think a large part of Haynesworth troubles were caused by Shannahan. He seemed to have it out for AH from day one...Shannahan seemed to subscibe to the Parcells notion, arrive in a new town, and immediately alienate the teams biggest stars. It almost seemed contrived on Shannahan's part.

I agree, but it seems, to me, the new regime is putting a higher value, offensively, on hybrid type players, than they are on guys with traditional football skill sets for their positions. I just don't envision CJ Spiller, for instance, being a 25-30 carry a game back, who just happens to be able to catch passes out of the backfield (ala Thurman or Fred Jackson)...from all accounts, Brad Smith is never going to be a full time QB, or a full time receiver...I agree about the Oline, but it seems that Buddy and Chan are not as concerned with this area as we are...I just don't think, in any sport, tricking the other team, in any sport (while fun, and thrilling at times) ever ultimately leads to championships. Something like "homerun throwback" (you remember I am sure) was born out of desperation, as a last gasp effort...the way Chan has spoken, and the from some of the things I have read about training camp, the coach intends to use the wildcat a fair amount of the time. My point is, they seem to be more concerned with stocking up on players of this type, rather than in fixing some of the things that seem like glaring weaknesses.

I really like Gailey, I think the guy can coach. But, I do give some credence to the OP's argument. These trick plays, and "gadjet" plays are normally the kind of things that coaches at small college programs, or really under-manned NFL teams rely on. I fear that Gailey and Nix are trying to build a team that will perpetually be, on offense anyways, over matched in the NFL. I want them to build team that can go on the field, and have a chance to beat anybody...not one that has to rely on trick plays to gain advantage. In the end, that never works, as exciting as it can be. I am not saying there is no room for the occasional, well placed trick play, but to build an offense around them is not the wisest thing, I think.

Indiana State Fair/Sugarland stage collapse
Buftex replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Remember seeing the Stones at Rich Stadium in 1981...they had an elaborate stage set up...it got really rainy and wet, at one point during the day, you could see the stage rocking...they were on it right away, and just tore most of it down...pretty scary stuff. -
Like AJ said, I am not into the genre at all...I started recording it for a friend of mine at wokr. I got into it...but I will say, I don't know how long it would sustain my interest..another season, yes...if it went on for a few years, I am not sure...

Bob Dole, Phil Graham, Mitt Romney and Pat Robertson are all calling to congratulate her!

In the past 5 years, have we re-signed...
Buftex replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get a kick out of the way so many of the cheerleader fanboys here repeating the cliche..."you build through the draft" any time anyone is critical of the Bills personel decision making...it seems that is supposed to the "smart thing" to do...only thing is, the Bills draft poorly, and only re-sign, for the most part, their worst draft picks...and then sign "low risk-low reward" free agents...that is what we like, I guess...the recipe for a decade of futility. -
I am a huge Evans fan, so this day sucks for me. I understand though, trades are part of the business. In my book, however, the Bills haven't done anything to warrant me trusting their judgment on anything, in a long time. I like Chan Gailey, not thrilled with Buddy Nix...they both pretty much say what they are thinking if you listen to what they say. IMO, Lee Evans was a goner somewhere late last season. He missed the last few games (his first if I recall) and it was said that he could have played after missing one game...but the Bills put him on IR. I guess Chan felt like he had seen enough... Oh well, it wouldn't be Buffalo Bills football if they didn't pull the rug out from under us every now and again...go bills

How to watch football online this year
Buftex replied to saundena's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can watch at work...but the boss wouldn't like it...he is out today, so I have the Raiders/Cardinals game on...small screen...Trent Edwards looks just wrong in a Raider uniform! -
Bachman always holds her own, because she just says the same crap over and over, whether it is relevant to the discussion or not, and refuses to answer any question she doesn't want to answer...it is her strength (staying on message) and her weakness...wise of them to stay away from social issues...that is one rag-tag group of candidates...and bat **** Perry isn't even in the race...yet!

How to watch football online this year
Buftex replied to saundena's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am bummed...I had this and the regular season package the last two years...but, because I have a Mac, PowerPC 4, I can't watch this year...you have to have intel or PowerPC 5...of course, I paid for it, before I realized it... -
Is he running as a Republican, or a Tea Party Republican?

It seems like these "weekly" rants are really "daily" rants...there are probably 5 threads from the last week saying how much Schoop and the Bulldog suck...maybe everyone should just stop listening, and they will get the message?
-
I remember being at the first practice of the 2007 season...everyone was in camp, except Marshawn Lynch. I got all the rookies (minus ML) to sign a training camp program...but I remember some young kid asked Trent Edwards to sign a football card. Apparently, it was the first time Trent had seen himself on a card...he was really thrilled...kid said he purchased the card in the merchandise area at training camp. Trent called a woman over (assuming now it was his sister, I thought maybe his gf at the time) and asked her to go in and buy one...despite the way things turned out, Trent seemed like a nice kid...

Bulldog (WGR) is losing his sh_t :D
Buftex replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thing I liked about Dickerson (and I agree he was a blowhard with an ax to grind), he was, maybe, the only guy on Buffalo sports radio who knew the game...not the teams, but the game, and his observations about the games themselves, were invaluable. -
Happy Birthday (one day late) to KD in CT!

So, it was just like any other day? Happy birthday, KD...one of the good guys on the "other side" of the aisle! -

I think they talk about the Bills plenty, but people here, being primarily Bills fans, and many not caring for hockey, don't seem to like the idea that the Sabres are as relevant as the Bills. I get that, if I wasn't born and raised in Buffalo, I might not care about the Sabres...but, it is a business. The Sabres are their bread and butter, their season runs almost twice as long, and there are about 75 more Sabres games a year than Bills games, so yeah, they cover them a bit more. GR and the Bills, from what I understand, have had a strained relationship since the Tom Donohoe days. I am not saying GR is great (I can't stand Jeremy WTF is his name in the morning), but I live in a college sports town (Ausitin) and the local sports talk is every bit as bad, if not worse...I often just listened to the archived stuff GR has, all the interviews and things, and it makes it more tollerable. It does feel like the end times sometimes, huh? -

I heard it...and I pretty much agree with everything he said... What gets me, is the smugness of the GM, and so many of the cheerleader fans, who act as if the critical fans amongst us are off base, because, "you know, the Bills have been doing this for years, and just winning one division title after another, posting 10+ wins every year..." The apathy that has settled in amongst so many (cloaking themselves in the garb of "real fans") is alarming. We signed Brad Smith and Buster Davis...goodbye Lee Evans! If this trade goes down, Buddy Nix moves another notch down on my list...I want a !@#$ing football team that wants to win...one that is going to put their best foot forward even when they are overmatched. Not one that is perpetually worried about what they will have to pay in the future, at the expense of wins. It seems that demented logic that teams shoule try to lose as many games as possible, to ensure a higher draft pick is permiating the franchise... -
To all you pro-trade guys, do you ever wonder how many good ball players never reach their potential, playing on a squad that is perpetually flawed, and "building" for some better tomorrow that never seems to come? I don't expect the Bills to win a lot more than they did last year, but it bums me out, going into the season, that the team management is already willing to mail in the season...

I hope your joking...but I will assume you are not...

Do we really need Lee Evans?

God, that sucks. Ususally, where there is smoke there is fire on these things.
