  1. Agreed...
  2. I get that everyone hates Shanahan, and feels slighted, but, I don't think he "refused to talk" to the Bills. He listened, told them he was flattered, but wasn't interested. At least that is how he, and the Bills told it. No matter what you think of him, once a guy gets a certain reputation, he can turn down jobs he doesn't want in favor of ones he might like better.
  3. I still like Lynch...even if Freddie is better...who's up next, after CJ, is it Johnny White?
  4. I have noticed that often too...and Flowers last night, for the Cheifs. Both are really good, but they seem to get away with a lot more than the average DB.
  5. I'd say he has reality show potential, at the very least!
  6. It's funny, when I moved to Austin, 20 years ago, I was amazed by little people here cared about Halloween. But, over the last 10 years, it has become a huge adult holiday...all weekend long. You just don't see many little kids going door to door here. They go to malls, and business areas. Where all the jobs in Texas are.
  7. I didn't see that game, but I am also hearing that USC informed the ref that they wanted to use their final timeout at the end of the game...to attempt a 50 yard field goal. The ref acknowledged it, but the clock was not stopped, and they went to OT. It sure sounds like somebody had reason for that thing to go extra time, and, perhaps, give Luck one more opportunity to add to his legend.
  8. It is pretty funny. You really can feel the frustration...kind of gotta kick out of the "this town just has a football curse"... interesting, one of the only Redskins fans (and I know a few) who doesn't place all the blame on Snyder.
  9. I dunno, I think, all in all, the O-line has been pretty good this year. Part of that is coaching, part of that is the linemen themselves...but you can't underestimate how much better an O-line will look, when their QB knows what they are doing. Fitz rarely holds on to the ball too long, unlike his two previous predecessors. It makes such a huge difference. As far as I am concerned, Fitz has only gotten better and better...when he first became the starter last year, despite the obvious improvement over Edwards, he would still throw about a half dozen passes per game where you would just close your eyes, and cross your fingers that nothing bad was going to happen...he has cut that number down to about 1 or 2 per game...and, I know it has been said over and over, but he just seems very in tune with the guy calling the plays...I just don't see any reason to already be thinking that he can't lead the Bills to a Super Bowl. I hear what you are saying, but it kind of bums me out that everyone seems to be taking this view of the deal...it is a real positive move by the Bills, but people seem to be measuring it in terms of the minimal amount of damage it can do the franchise...I know, we are accustomed to this kind of thinking, but I am enjoying the hell out of this.
  10. One of my favorite scenes of all time...Christopher's "Intervention"
  11. True, but you can never have too many either.
  12. Could it be, partly, too, that Williams was not in, playing at half strength?
  13. When it happened to me, Wells Fargo were the ones to contact me, saying that they had detected suspicious activity on my card. They contacted me, to make sure that I was the one making the purchases. All of the purchases happened over one weekend, and they called me first thing Monday morning. Like I said earlier, they "fronted" me the amount that was fraudulently spent, until the their investigation was complete. Whoever used my card info, wiped my checking account clean out (about $2000)... it took about two weeks, all was cleared, I got all my money back...it was almost like it hadn't happened, except I knew it did. Same thing happened, with similar results, to my girlfriend a few years later.
  14. This is completely false, I know from experience. It takes a week or two, but my bank (Wells Fargo, not exactly known as customer friendly) was great about refunding me numerous false charges on my account...and they even temporarily lent me money, at no charge, so that I wouldn't be penniless...not sure what bank you are dealing with.
  15. I am not going to be one of those who claims the Bills were wrong about Maybin (when they cut him), but I have to say, I was pretty shocked by what a short leash fans (at least those here on TSW) had with him. I always felt like he never really had any sort of chance with the Bills. People here were proclaiming him a bust, almost from day one...but the guy barely played. I trust Chan Gailey a bit more than I do the Jauron crew, to evaluate players, so when they gave up on him too, I just figured, well "maybe they are right". It is just strange to me, though, with all the bad line-ups the Bills put on the field in 2008, 2009 and 2010, they could never find an opportunity to play Maybin just a little bit? He seems to have found a niche with the Jets. That doesn't mean to say that he is the second coming, but he is playing productive football somewhere. I sometimes get the feeling that the same scenario is going to play out with CJ Spiller...at least as far as the fans go.
  16. Remember when Fitzpatrick fumbled the ball? I think Aikman found 3 ways in 90 seconds to say that it was the first Bills fumble all year...and he acted as if it was the first time he was saying it, each time. I think Aikman is okay, but you can only talk so much before it is very apparent you are trying to fill time...let's face it, that was a great game for Bills fans, but is was pretty dull otherwise...it wasn't competitive for one second.
  17. I am currently 2-5 in my league, and it has gotten to the point where I really can't lose any more games to have any hope of making the playoffs. We play in divisions, so currently, I am 3 games out of first, but I did beat the division leader! The only guy I have, who has delivered, week in, week out, is Aaron Rodgers. He is on the bye this week, so I have Tebow to back him up. I am willing to make a massive trade to change my fortunes. I have been offered a good deal, I think...but I am not sure...you tell me: I give up: Aaron Rodgers, GB QB Ryan Mathews, SD RB Mike Tolbert, SD RB Larry Fitzgerald, Ari WR I get: Matt Ryan, Atl QB Fred Jackson, Buf RB Daniel Thomas, Mia RB Greg Jennings, GB WR It may sound crazy to trade Rodgers, but Fred Jackson gives me a good upgrade at running back. And throwing Greg Jennings gives me some terrific WR flex options. I guess the question is, is what I gain in getting Fred Jackson and Greg Jennings worth what I lose in going from Rodgers to Tebow/Ryan and Ryan Mathews. Larry Fitzgerald has not been anything special, thus far. I am thinking yes...but would like some input! Am I crazy to think this might work? I would be left with: QB: Tim Tebow, Matt Ryan RB: Fred Jackson, Darren Sproles, Ryan Grant, Ronnie Brown, Daniel Thomas WR: Greg Jennings, DeSean Jackson, Steve Breston, Julio Jones, David Nelson TE: Fred Davis, Brandon Pettigrew D/ST: New England, Cleveland PK: Jason Hanson
  18. I guess you might factor in how you are doing in the standings, with what you already have. But, on the surface, it looks like a "no-brainer" to me...you go for Peterson. To me, a "sure thing" running back is pretty invaluable.

  20. I hate you .... You hate me..... I hate me......

  22. Robinson, for better or worse, at least played.
  23. When you win Super Bowl rings, and field competitive teams year after year you get that kind of leadway. That is just a bad way to frame your argument.
  24. I agree, mostly. But I still don't know if Barnett signed becuase of Merriman, only Kirk Morrison. Let's be honest, Kirk Morrison is a journeymen at this point...he will play where he is paid. I sat behind the Bills bench at the Giant game, and was astounded by how little Morrison played, and he was healthy. Honestly, he is just a body at this point, with a little experience. Barnett looks to be the best FA signing in a while, but he was already proven, and was physically able to perform when the Bills signed him. He was injured last year, but, if I recall, was lamenting the fact that he was recovered enough, to play in the Super Bowl, but had been IR'd, so couldn't. I get taking a chance on players coming back from major injuries (although I will contend it pans out far less than it doesn't pan out), but the Merriman thing is a little different. He had already failed a come-back (or two) with the Chargers, and one with the Bills. I am not sure why he was re-signed at that point. Other than Buddy had real confidence in him. To me, that is what kind of short circuted Tom Donohoe when he was here, as far as on the field stuff goes. He made some great moves, but put too much stock in reclamation projects, and other teams scrapped projects, at important positions. You say Merriman wasn't paid all that much in NFL terms, but in Bills terms, those are major bucks. Just ask the aforementioned Fitzpatrick, Jackson and Johnson. Re-signing Merriman was just throwing good money after bad. Maybe, not living in WNY anymore, I am not seeing the huge positive influence he had on the team...to me, he is almost just a footnote...I even forget he is/was on the team from time to time. Now, I don't mean this as a condemnation of Buddy Nix. I am not completely sold on him, but I am seeing more good things than bad. I think the Bills owe most of their light years improvement on offense to Chan Gailey (getting more out of, essentially the same cast that was here), lets just hope Buddy and Chan can put the pieces together on defense soon. I realize, this is a re-build. This is not meant as a slam on Buddy, or Ralph Wilson, but lets face it, with the financial constraints the team operates under, a good GM in Buffalo has to be able to find value at every position. The Shawne Merriman of 4 or 5 years ago would be a steal for what the Bills were paying him...but he hasn't been the Shawne Merriman of 4 or 5 years ago, for 4 or 5 years. It seems the guy he had the most positive influence on, in Buffalo, is now playing for the Jets.
  25. Okay, Bmore...whatever doubts I had about you from your rip on the "Sopranos" in that other thread, you just made up for...loved those Dickie Goodman records..."Mr Jaws" was the best!
