  1. I was going to say somehting similar, but I wasn't sure if it was wise to "go there".
  2. To be fair, Sullivan has been consistently critical of the Spiller pick, from day one. I am a big fan of Gailey, but, I think the criticism is valid that it appears that the Bills aren't likings something about Spiller, or Chan is failing, as a coach, to find a way to use him. It won't be long before Spiller (and Brad Smith for rthat matter) are looking like luxury items the Bills didn't really need. It is odd that Spiller spent two weeks as a receiver, and the second Donald Jones was healthy, Spiller had no role in the offense, once again. I am inclined, at this point, to pin this on the coaches. From the little we have seen, it seemed like he has shown some ability. Would have really liked to see if Spillers speed could have been utilized this past Sunday, as wide-out.
  3. Personally, I think Gailey got caught, worrying that his team wasn't good enough to beat the Jets, so he kind of abandoned the things that have made this team successful this year. He kind of psyched himself out...I am very confident that the Bills give the Jets a much better effort in New Jersey. I also happen to think that poor field position may have limited Gailey's intended play calling on Sunday.
  4. I've never seen/heard of the show...but I agree about Wendy Malik...always thought she was very sexy...love her voice too! Is it an old show, or new show? Does TV Land have new shows now?
  5. Thought this was interesting: http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2011-11-07/midseason-player-poll-tim-tebow-voted-most-overrated?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl6%7Csec3_lnk2%7C110549 Predictably, I suppose, Tim Tebow heads the list. I must say though, I disagree. There may not be a guy who has been more over-hyped, but the amount of criticism he takes is pretty amazing too. It was just 8 weeks ago that the idiots at ESPN were proclaiming the Broncos "must cut Tebow"....for as much as his zealot fans love him, he gets an almost equal amount of disdain. I am not a fan, but I think he deserves, like any young QB, a sample size of games before everyone is saying he can't play...2-1 as a starter!
  6. Yeah, I assumed that is what they would do, as well...so, likely, did the Jets. Their interior linemen broke through pretty quick on that play, as I recall...a QB sneak may not have worked anyways. If the Bill had made that first down, and scored a TD, I think their chances of winning increase dramatically...just as they might have, had that "no catch" not been called on Steve Johnson in the Bengals game. I guess, what I am trying to say, I just think rumours of the Bills terribleness yesterday are being greatly exaggerated. They weren't good, but the Jets defense had something to do with that. The Bills kept this game very much within their reach for most of three quarters...they didn't look like they didn't belong on the same field as the Jets. I take some solace in that. And, I think the Bills give them all they can handle in three weeks.
  7. I think too many here are overreaciting to this loss. The final score doesn't reflect how close this game was, in some ways. The Bills lost to a good team, maybe even the better team, this day. But they did some things well...just that their weakesses were exposed (average wide receivers, defensive weaknesses). Honestly, this loss felt nothing like the hopeless feeling of the Jauron era. Lost in all the gripping over the loss, the Bills offense did move the ball decently, in the second half. This team, and it's coach, learn on the fly...I suspect the Bills give the Bills a pretty good challange in three weeks.
  8. People are really gripping here...we are all disappointed with the outcome yesterday, but I don't think the Bills were nearly as bad as people are acting. If not for horrible field position almost the entire second half (for the offense and the defense), I think the finall score would have been much closer. I might have run the sneak with Fitz at that point too, but handing off to Fred Jackson is not the worst idea either. It just didn't work...that is why teams don't go for it on 4th down more often, it is a high risk play. Anyways, I think the Jets had an obvious advantage defensively, but I think most knew that going in to this game. We shouldn't be shocked. Honestly, I don't think the Jets were that much better than us yesterday. Our #1 receiver had a decent day (2nd half) against Revis, the reported best CB ever... our #1 running back had nearly a 100 yards...but he had his first fumble, in the Jets red zone...the back breaker, IMO. Still half a season of football to go...this race isn't over by a long-shot.
  9. I think the game might have turned out a little differently, particularly in the second half, if the Bills not gotten into such bad field position for the half. Not converting on that 4th &1 (questionable play call) was also big. Bills got beat today, and the Jets were the better team, today. But, the Bills still did some things well, on both sides of the ball. Bills can beat the Jets in New Jersey.
  10. This season has already exceeded my expectations...and it isn't merely wins vs losses. This team has developed a personality and, dare I say it, a soul, that has been dead for a decade. Win or lose, this team carries what it learns from game to game, and evolves. I am perfectly willing to accept that the Jets might be a better team, at this point, than the Bills. Not so much better that I don't think the Bills can't beat them in their place, in three weeks. Despite the disappointing outcome, I don't get the sense that this team ever stopped trying today, and they weren't completely awful. There was still some to like today. I think the offense actually adjusted at the half, and played better in the second. In fact, I think they might have made a true game of it, had they not started the second half, handicapped by awful field position. Oh well...still a lot to look forward to the next 8 weeks, or so. No reason to despair now. There is so much football left to be played.
  11. Man, no time to post my usual long-winded drivel, but, I must say, if the Braves had never left Buffalo, the Bills would be #2 in my book, followed by the Sabres...was an obsessive Braves fan as a kid...tried following them in LA, but it was just impossible in those days...switched my allegiances to the Celtics based merely on the fact, in those days, Buffalo got the Boston super station, so you could see nearly every game. Not much other NBA on tv then...but I loved the Braves. For those who want to reminisce further, this book is awesome...a little pricey at $40, but when it came out, it was $80: http://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Home-Braves-Tim-Wendel/dp/0578040859/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1320537891&sr=8-12
  12. Is it too early to maybe give some of the praise that Nix is getting, to Doug Whaley. He is the assistant GM, and, the pro-personel guy. So far, particularly compared to John Guy, it seems the guy bringing in scrubs from other pro rosters seems to know what he is doing...GM of the future? Not saying Buddy doesn't deserve any credit, just not all, if Whaley is doing the job I imagine he is doing.
  13. It is sad to see a really good actor like Dean Winters getting his "big break" in commercials...but the mayhem commercials are pretty funny, as far as commercials go. btw- I still think J-LO is fine!
  14. Only thing that would have made this post any better was a link to Mike Leaches' coaching stats!
  15. Yeah, I do that often too...but, I would bet, if people start watching a game on tv, with no announcers, and have no horse in the race, they would likely start flipping stations (particualarly nowadays) the second they got bored.
  16. You can find plenty of bad things to say about pretty much every announcer, they will annoy somebody (I don't like the ESPN MNF guys, or Joe Buck), but they do serve a purpose. As great a spectator sport that football is, you miss so much of a game if you simply watch it on tv. Guys like Phil Simmms, if nothing else, are able to point things out that you wouldn't notice on a straight up football broadcast. They have to talk for 3+ hours, they are bound to say stupid things, but sometimes they offer insight. Some are better at it than others.
  17. They did one game like this...it did not poll favorably. I gurantee, as much as people whine about the announcers, if they really went without announcers, ratings would plummet.
  18. Bills 34 Jets 10 I got a good feeling about this Sunday...
  19. Down in these parts, it is pretty well accepted as truth that Aikman was the main reason Gailey was fired in Dallas. Aikman, and other vets, did not take to Gailey too well...he wanted to do new things, but the old Cowboys (at that point), I think, felt like they didn't need Gailey to show the old dogs new tricks. In some ways, it makes sense. Supposing it was 1995, and Jim Kelly was complaining about a new head coach, some releatively unknown guy. Likely, the coach would have been fired, even though it was obvious, at that point, that Kelly's best years were behind him. Tough spot for an owner to be in.
  20. Count me as one who finds Gruden, Jaworski and Tirico one of the worst broadcast teams in a while. Tirico is just as bland and dull as someone with a sould can be, Jaws knows the game, but is just not a good broadcaster for live games. Gruden says nothing of any real value, and, in two short years mananged to do what it took Madden 25 years to do...become a parody of himself. I kind of like Gruden's QB camp shows, and I always loved Jaws doing the game film breakdown, but I think they are both pretty bad in the booth. For the first time in my life, MNF is not necessarily "can't miss" tv. I still watch at least some, if not all, of the MNF games, but the combo of the bad broadcast booth, and the dull games often finds me going on-line, only half watching... hate Collinsworth and Michaels if you must, but they are worlds better than the MNF guys.
  21. My mom used to make the most amazing scalloped potatoes....I dream about them sometimes...
  22. This is going down to the wire...11 of 16 teams in the AFC are .500 or better...lots of football left to be played.
