You may be sick of them, and I don't think either are beyond reproach...but when you look at the dreck that is out there in the coaching fraternity of both leagues, you could do far worse that Lindy Ruff or Andy Reid.

One development in that last episode was that the farmers daughter seems to be convinced that killing the "walkers" is the way to go, and gives Glenn the okay to shoot at them...scenes from next season gave me the impression that maybe, just maybe, Herschel has a change of heart on the topic...but "scenes from next season" are normally intentionally deceiving that way. Also, I was expecting that Sophia to be in the barn as well. If not there, I figured she was picked up by another group.

Hmm...that would make some sense, but they certainly didn't explain that directly, or indirectly in the show...I have avoided the "Talking Dead" as much as possible, cuz I don't want to know what happens in the comic book. I hope it is not expected that we all read the comic to know what is going on in the show!

That would be pretty surprising, unless the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs. I think they will make it...it pains me to say it, but I think Garrett has the Cowboys playing better the last month or so, than they have played in years. In fact, I think they will make some noise in the playoffs. Fisher would be tempting for most owners, but, for some reason, I can't see him and JJ working well togehter...just a hunch.

Better a one trick pony than a no-trick pony? Truth is, Gailey, and Jauron before him, always praised his work ethic, but for some reason, that never translated into playing time....hell, it didn't even translate into being active for most games...so, as I see it, either the Bills (under two different coaching staffs) had some other issue with Maybin that we aren't aware of, or, this is a case where stubborn coaching just wasted a player. He may never amount to much, but it is beyond me how a guy drafted so high (we can debate the merits of the pick all we want) could have 0 chance come his way to see what he can do. It is not like the Bills had some steady, reliable defense the two years Maybin was here...how many times would an effective situational pass rusher have helped (or "one trick pony" as you call it) out? Btw- the way you describe Maybin sounds like about half the guys on our starting defense.

Yes, Barney Frank single-handedly took down the housing market, and the US economy....

Yeah, I thoght it was real good too. Just wondering though, do you think Herschal (the doctor) knew Sophia was in the barn all along? I can see why he wouldn't tell the gang, when he was still trying to keep the barn walkers secret, but once the news was out, why wouldn't he tell them? It might have helped the gang understand his point of view, that these were people, not walking dead carcasses.

John Denver song came on at my local bar tonight....
Buftex replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Funny...the first album I ever owned, that was mine, was "Back Home Again" by John Denver. I got it for my birthday, cuz I loved the song "Thank God I'm a Country Boy". My many sisters, and brother teased me endlessly about liking "John Duchendork" (his real name was John Duchendorf, or something like that), but I dug him. He was huge at the time...he had a variety show. I loved his stuff when I was in 2nd grade...as I got a little older, around 5th-6th grade I was starting to get more into what is called now "classic rock", but I always had a soft spot in my heart for JD. In 1988, I was living in NYC. I purchased my first CD player, ordered it in the mail. I still remember, it came on a Friday, and it was payday. I headed over to Tower Records (I worked there) to buy my first CD's. I had socked away enough scratch, I figured, to buy 3 CD's. At that time, my inclination was to grab "Let It Bleed", "Sticky Fingers" and "Exile On Main Street". As I was shopping around, trying to figure out if I really wanted my first CD purchase to be all Stones, I decided to keep "Sticky Fingers", and pick up two others. I picked Nico "Chelsea Girl". I wanted it because, at that time, I could never find it on vinyl, and had never heard the whole thing....as I am trying to figure out what the other CD will be (for some reason, stupid things like this have always held great significance for me), and I look up, about 5 feet away from me is none-other than John Duchendork himself...he was in town to apppear on the Peoples Choice Awards. I immediately went over to the country section and grabbed a copy of "Back Home Again" on CD..it had to be my first CD! I went over and told John Denver my story...he just smiled and said "Far out!" As you may recall, that was his trademark back in the day...he autographed the cover of the CD for me...still have it on my mantle...it just says "Peace- John Denver" My first album, was also my first CD. I have loved music my whole life...it is my constant companion...I am always eternally grateful to John Denver, nerd that he was, for being the one to lure me in... Anyone with a sensitive bone in their body gets a little choked up on this one: -
The 5 Greatest Sports Movies of All Time
Buftex replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I respectfully disagree...I thought "Big Fan" was really good, and the end was, for me, maybe one of the best movie endings I have seen in a long long time...it is up there, for me with "Buffalo '66" as one of the great, quirky, and very dark, sports movies of all time... Also, I thought "Friday Night Lights" was a terrific movie...and I dug "Everybody's All-American", even though Dennis Quaid, John Goodman and Jessica Lange all looked a little too old for their roles, for most of the movie. And, "Slap Shot" was one of my favorites as a kid..."He Got Game" was another good one. So my list goes: 1- Big Fan 2- Buffalo '66 3- Friday Night Lights 4- He Got Game 5- Everybody's All-American 6- Slap Shot I am not normally too jazzed about sports movies, cuz they are too full of tired cliche, and honestly, aren't very believable. -
Whitner looked pretty good against the Giants a few weeks back.

Jasper is a big-time project. If they put him in this year, he will, almost certainly, look awful. He will become a whipping boy for the fans, and, then, be released...don't take the turkey out of the oven, until it is done!

I just started and finished watching Breaking Bad
Buftex replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It doesn't bother me...life is like that...we never know where it is going to go...but I guess I am one of the few people who thought the "Sopranos" finale was pretty brilliant...one of the worst series finales I have ever seen was "Six Feet Under". Admittedly, that was one of those shows that started to suck, long before it ended, but the whole look into the future of each character (with old man and lady makeup on....ugh!) to see how they end up was just atrocious...but most people I know, loved that finale. I read an interview with Matthew Weiner recently, about "Mad Men" (my other favorite show on tv right now) and I was concerned that he said that he already had the final 3 seasons of the show mapped out...it is going to end in present day, he says. What I loved about the "Sopranos" so much (to me, still hands down, the greatest tv drama of all time) was the fact that the characters were so rich, the writers could meander off a bit on irrelevant story lines, just to add to the richness of the characters, rather than worry about how it will affect the overall story line. Not to sound pretentious, but it worked like a great novel, for me. "Mad Men" has always had that quality, as does "Breaking Bad". There are other shows, like, say "Weeds" (which I like, but don't always love) where they seem to just throw a zillion things at the wall, never ending plot twists, to the point where it detracts from the characters. I think more shows fall into that trap, particularly nowadays, when every show has to be "edgy"... -
Stay Classy Mr WIlson, pay Fred Jackson
Buftex replied to THE GASH STATION's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is 100% true, like it or not...Fred Jackson isn't going to get another contract from the Bills (at least not one with a pay increase) and Steve Johnson will be playing elsewhere once his contract expires. The sad truth is, the way the Bills do business, they think they can't afford players to make the team better, so they aren't likely to be shelling out top dollars just to be "classy". -
You're still alright!

Have you listened to it? I don't think all the vocals are 2011...there is only 1 song where you can tell the vocals were more recent...I have most of these songs on boots as well, but I think they did a great job...the vocal difference isn't so glaring, like the two tunes on the Exile re-issue, that just do not fit the rest of the stuff. Great to hear lyrics that don't embarrass... I think it sounds great...picked up the '78 blu-ray, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. That was the first tour I ever saw them on (4th of July at Rich Stadium)...

Sage, I didn't find that funny at all...what am I missing? A sense of humor? I am throwing this in the ring with Jim Carrey...

throwing my draft hat in the circle

Bills will draft a running back, first pick, in 2012! -
I am calling it now...I am behind you CJ Spiller
Buftex replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe...but if you run the ball more, get first downs on the ground, you minimize the number of possessions your opponent has, thus, perhaps, cutting down the number of drives that your defense can't stop their offense...I am not sure if you have watched all the games, but if you have, you hadn't noticed that the Bills are a "pass first" team? There are times when it comes out of necessity, but, I would argue, the Bills abandoned any notion of a running game a few too many times this season... Anyways, if you think the defense is as awful as you say (and I wouldn't argue with you) my point is valid...AJ said he will be disappointed if Spiller doesn't carry the ball 22-26 times a game...he won't, if things continue as they have, either because, as I say, Chan likes to throw the ball, or, as you say, the defense sucks, and can't stop anyone...so, AJ is likely to be disappointed...which was my point! I would argue that each of the last three weeks, the run game was abandoned prematurely...and the pass game just wasn't working. -
I happen to know somebody who works for the Bills. I can tell you, the logic behind picking McGahee wasn't as bad as it is portrayed. What the public didn't know, Travis Henry (one of my favorite Bills over the last 11 seasons) was considered a walking time bomb by Bills management at the time. He had many more off the field issues than fans were privy to. I am not arguing that I might not have made a different pick with McGahee, but the feeling was, he was a "once in a generation" type back, and if he panned out, it would be a steal. And, they could cut bait with Henry and his constant woes.

Buftex replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, be prepared to be disappointed then...you realize, Jackson has only carried the ball 20 or more times in 3 games this year? KC, Philly and Washington...and the Bills won all three of them! I wonder of Chan knows that! -
Okay, sorry...whatya got? No need to put a ring on it.

"Dane Cook?" (thunderous applause and uncontrollable, over the top laughter)

Anyone? I know there are some hard-core Stones fans amongst us. I would highly recommend the new double "Some Girls" re-issue...the 12 bonus tracks (at least 10 of them anyways) are fantastic. If they can't make good new records anymore, I will be very content hearing new "old" records....

Cuaght up on the last two episode of "Boardwalk Empire"...this show keeps getting better and better...
