He's an idiot!

Yes, Austin, TX has dozen upon dozens of resteraunts that serve up "Buffalo Wings"...only two of them are any good....one, run by a former Buffalonian, and the other, just closed down a few weeks ago. Making good wings seems easy enough...but so few do it.

Luxury Pick, Bust, Average at best
Buftex replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not really...there were a lot of folks here who labeling Maybin a bust, about 6 weeks into his first season...he rarely, if ever, played. I can honeslty say, I never heaped on Maybin, and never knew how people jumped to that conclusion. I know there were others. Gailey said, more than once, that Maybin put in the effort, but was missing something, so he wouldn't get to play, or hell, even dress for a game. I just think the coaches, whether Gailey or Juaron's guys, owe it to the franchise to at least give a first round pick an extended opportunity, during games, to see if they can play. That never happened with Maybin, and Spiller is only now getting a real chance. Unfortunately, it is only coming becasue of an injury. It is not like the Bills have been winning 10+ games, year after year, that you just can't afford to give these guys a look. I surmise that people were drawing the conclusion that Maybin was a bust because fans A) seem to take it personally when draft picks come to camp late, B) he wasn't the guy they had targeted for the Bills first pick that year and C) they assume that the coaching staff knows the player better than they do, so there is a good reason he is not only not playing, but doesn't even make the game-day roster most weeks. From what we have seen this year, Maybin has not been a complete turd for the Jets (6 sacks, two forced fumbles, at least one sack and fumble at key time in game), so how can we honestly determine that Spiller, with his 3-5 carries every other game, for his first season and a half, is a complete bust? I am just really calling into question the talent evaluation abilities of some of our coaches, from the current, and former coaching staffs. BTW- I do think Spiller was a luxury pick, but, that doesn't mean he has no value. People seem to take the franchise's mistakes out on the player...Bills fans seem to do it over and over. -

While I agree with your overall point, I don't really agree with your assessment of the Lynch situation, and the need (or not) of Spiller. However, I have always been behind Spiller. He hasn't had nearly enough playing time, or nearly enough opportunity to prove his value. I also felt the same way about Maybin. It is leading me to no other conclusion that we can't always trust the Bills coaching staff (whether it was Jauron, or Gailey) to assess who are the best players on their own squads, or to put their players in a place to succeed. You just can't label a first round draft pick a bust, without giving him any chances. I love Fred Jackson, but Gailey, it seems, let Jacksons pouting about making Spiller the #1 guy (in freakin' pre-season!!!) intimidate him, it seems, into making Spiller useless. Now, out of necessity, Spiller is getting a chance, and not looking half bad...still some learning to do, but today, if nothing else, we saw a little of what the Bills saw, when they drafted Spiller. -
I think Cain was likable enough, but what mark did he make? Why is his voice "important"? I think he did more harm than good, to his party. He is just another in the long line of Palin, Bachmann's and Perry's who seem legit on the surface, but can't cut it, once they actually have to speak, or think. I won't say they are stupid (at least not all of them) because they obviously have had some success along the way, in other pursuits. It seems like everyone who posts here, no matter what side of the political spectrum they identify with, is a somewhat cynical by nature. To me, Cain dropping out of the race is the best thing that could have happened for the Republicans, and I can't help but think that most of the GOP VIP's are very happy with this development...I also can't help but feel like some of them were behind making it happen. Next, they should root out Santorum and Bachmann.

AJ Smith Coming back to Buffalo?
Buftex replied to MacAddict104's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley is in charge of "pro-personnel". I think he has been a significant upgrade over his predecessor. The offensive linemen that Whaley has found on the lower rungs of other teams practice squads, and roster cuts, have been a pleasant surprise. I for one, would love to see Whaley get a shot at the GM position. I think Nix, Whaley and Gailey operate under some disadvantages that others may not. It is still early to call Nix a bust, but it ain't feeling good right now...Buffalo continues to get very little, if any, production from it's draft picks. As for AJ Smith, I give him kudos for finding talent, but I am not so sure he has done a great job of running the Chargers. I mean, is there a team, over the last 7 or 8 years that exemplifies "under-achieving" as much as the Chargers have. Sure, it is not all AJ's fault, but, personally, I think the guy sounds like a bit of an a-hole...kind of an ego, who likes to get confrontational with players, during negotiations. His confrontational style is what created the rift between he and Ralph in the first place. As long as Ralph Wilson owns this team, AJ Smith is not coming back to Buffalo. I can't recall exactly what he said when he left Buffalo for San Diego, but I do remember he was very critical of Wilson. Nix and AJ Smith have the Bills and Chargers on their resumes. Not bad. Whaley has the Steelers on his resume. I say, lets try something new, and not reach into the past, again. I would rather have the team I love, the Bills, model themselves after the Steelers, than the Chargers... -
Anyone with NFL sunday ticket, can you answer this:
Buftex replied to ThurmasThoman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was tempted to do this, but had heard the quality was not too good when the season started. Are you finding that to be the case still, now that we are long into the season? -
You may be right OC, but it is sad that the other party can't come up with anything that seems like a better alternative, candidate wise.... The re-polishing of the Gingrich turd is hilarious...all of the sudden, everyone lcves Gingrich...

Did you read the article posted, that I was referring too? Coulter is saying "because he is a black conservative, there is a backlash against Cain. So, alright, Cain isn't saying it, the white woman is, but he has made similar comments...they are out to get the black conservative guy...the fact that he appears to be dishonest, ambiguous moral character, and not super bright have nothing to do with it? Yeah, it is because he is black. And the guy from Florida, Allen West, keeps using the color of his skin as an excuse for anyone who opposes him. I know you are big on the victicrats thing, but you can't see any parallel between Cain/West (victicrits) and what you have so openly oppossed?

There aren't many responses more appropriate to Ann Coulter. Btw- so now Republicans are "victicrits" too? I had actually posted that the only conclusion to draw from the column you posted is that Ann Coulter is really stupid, or she thinks anyone who believes here garbage is really stupid...but then I realized, two things can be true at once. The fact that Cain "got in front of the story" by running to CNN, before FOX ran the Ginger White story is hilarious... isn't it just possible that Cain, a black man, is just not fit to be a viable presidential candidate? Just as Michelle Bachmann is not fit? Does it seem significant to you, that FOX was the lead on the Ginger White story? Personally, I think Cain was dead on about a month ago (which, of course, he back-peddled on) when he accused the Perry people of trying to smear his campaign. The Republican political machine does not want to see Herman Cain as their candidate (with good reason) so they will dig for every skelton in his closet. And, it appears, he has more than a few. So now, Cain will drop out, and they can do everything they can to silence the shrill voice of Rick Santorum, and the mental midgetry of Bachmann and Perry...then they will work on trying to make Romney palatible to their own base, or go along with the narrative that Newt Gingrich is full of intellect and integrity.

Jay, you love Deela that much? How long did it take you to slap that on Youtube? Anyways, Kirk, moving faster than the speed of light...word that Deela spread around the quadrant after her tryst with James T. "James Kirk is a 2 pump chump!"
-
I haven't seen any of the texts, but I saw where Cain personally autographed a copy of his book to her, and the inscription said something like "Ginger, true friends are the best, true friends with extras are pricless" or something like that... I will be glad when Cain drops out, and we have a serious candidate, however silly that candidate is. What is going on right now is just embarassing.
-
BTW- If I am not mistaken, this episode, "Wink Of an Eye", had a scene that was "censored" in parts of the US, upon it's original airing...at the start of a scene in Kirks' quarters, Deela is laying on the bed, and Kirk is pulling on his boots...implying that he has just "sealed the deal" so to speak.

While I completely understand your sentiment...correct me if I am wrong. I don't live in WNY any more (season tickets 1978-1987, my impeccable sense of timing!), and I don't have Direct TV. If you live in WNY, and a game does not sell out in time to lift the blackout, you can't watch it on Direct TV, correct? btw- I normally go to one Bills game, in Buffalo, per year...it is always the home game closest to Christmas. Got tickets for $20 each, last year, for the dreadful home season finale against the Patriots. Still had a blast...even though the game sucked, and it was the coldest I think I have been in nearly 25 years! Got tickets for the Broncos game on Christmas Eve. Sure, like everyone, I would prefer to go to games that are more meaningful in the NFL bigger picture...but any Bills game, to me, is huge...such a big part of my life, for as long as I can remember. I am firmly in the "Ralph is cheap" camp, but, in all fairness, he has purchased tickets before... -
Yes, Deela was hot...as was the Lt Marlena Moreu, from "Mirror Mirror" : http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XNPD380IpBQ/SHI7YvAUMFI/AAAAAAAABtQ/NZF7MeKfRTs/s400/P13_27_MirrorMirror_BarbaraLuna.jpg Nona from "A Private Little War" http://images.wikia.com/memoryalpha/en/images/2/2b/Nona-nativeAmerican-outfit.jpg "Elaan Of Toryius" http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XNPD380IpBQ/SGZ4zDYcV6I/AAAAAAAABfQ/NaVMcgxT95E/s400/P48_8_Elaan_of_Troyius.jpg And of course, Kirk's first wife, Miramanee, from "The Paradise Syndrome": http://www.treksinscifi.com/trekdaily/pictures/2009-11-06_Paradise_Syndrome.jpg I guess I am partial to brunetts! But, a nod to the fair haired ladies, Teri Garr was quirky, sexy in "Assignment: Earth" and Maritte Heartly made quite an impression as a kid, in her fur bikini trying to keep Mr Spock warm, in "The Savage Curtain"...that is the one with Abe Lincoln, inspirationaly fighting side by side with Kirk, Spock and Surak of Vulcan! In the end, they are just fighting what looks like a steaming turd creature! Okay, I have delved in to my previous life as nerd for too long here...Kirk out!

Yes, I think that was the "biggest moment" of the show, overshadowed by the appearence of Sophia. It seems like they are setting up a bit of a power-struggle between Rick and Shane...who knows where that will go? Don't answer that, if you do know! I guess I missed the explanation about Otis during that scene. What I found odd about that scene in particular, but in others as well...sometimes the walkers seem in-humanly strong, and other times very weak. Also, at the barn, during the climatic scene, when Shane shoots the woman walker (the one that Herschel is controlling) in the chest and abdoman, she barely seems fazed...she only goes down when shot in the head. But, I could swear there have been other scenes where walkers go down with a shot to the chest, or torso...maybe I am just not detail oriented enough sometimes...but that is the first time I remember them making a point of establishing that the walkers have to be shot in the head to stop them.

Exactly. Didn't it take Bill Cowher (considered by many, a "great coach") about 12-13 years to win a championship? I realize it is a different sport, but Jim Boeheim didn't win a national championship as a coach for 25 years, before finally winning one...he is considered one of the greatest college hoops coaches ever...

Top albums of the year lists are starting to emerge...
Buftex replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Thought about Deer Tick for #10, but, I guess the new album hasn't bowled me over as much as the others...I have only had it a few weeks, but haven't found myself wanting to hear it over and over...like the other 10. I suspect it will grow on me. Some of my favorite albums have been ones that didn't do much for me at first. -

Wow...I really didn't see that coming... I agree, along with "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad", the best shows on tv right now, for me. I have heard good things about "Homeland", but honestly, I am kinda burned out on the terrorist thing right now...maybe I will start watching it when BE is over...can't fit too many shows into the schedule, during football/hockey/NBA season!
