Sarah Palin Hoping For Brokered Convention
Buftex replied to Dave_In_Norfolk's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That wasn't near as contentious as this has been. You had two candidates in a heated battle, to be sure, but it wasn't anywher as nasty as this has been. Clinton was the front runner for most of the primary, until Obama emerged, later. You didn't have a different front runner every few weeks, and candidates weren't spending millions upon millions of dollars to rip candidates in their own party. Gingrich, for all the blather about how "smart" he was, may have done more damage to his party than anyone. You really think Clinton vs Obama was as nasty as this has been? Not even close. -

No, I meant (and I think I said) I have never seen a primary, for either Republican or Democratic party, as volatile as the Republican race this year. -
Sarah Palin Hoping For Brokered Convention
Buftex replied to Dave_In_Norfolk's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I am hoping for a brokered convention too, though I don't think it will happen. The Republican party is so fractured right now, three groups vying for power. Just for the sake of observation, I really think this is one of the more fascinating political campaigns that I can ever remember, for either party. I am pretty sure Palin is smart enough to know that she isn't going to be called in to save the party...for as many fans as she has amongst the right, there are as many who see her as a big part of the problem. She would get clobbered by Obama. Jeb, or, Chris "for the last time I am not running" Christie seem like the most likely saviors. -
Oh well...I guess everything can't be for everyone...for me, it is one of the 4 best shows on tv right now... "Breaking Bad", "Treme" and "Mad Men" (not in that order) being the others. What on earth are you talking about?

I think you will like the 2nd season a lot more. I liked the first season, but, I agree, it took a lot of time to build up to a point where, for me, it went from "good, but not great"....second season reaches that level. It definitely owes to the "Sopranos"...not quite sure about "Hello Dolly".

Birth Control Blunder By Santorum
Buftex replied to Dave_In_Norfolk's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It is not uncommon for females who are not sexually active to take birth-control, to control irregular menstrual cycles and alleviate extreme menstrual cramping. -

This makes zero sense. He has not forced the church to do anything...did you miss that part, last Friday? It seems there is a lot of very ignorant people here. You, and RK understand very little about medical insurance. -

To paraphrase DC, you are an angry idiot. -
I have said the same thing many times...but, this is just the way the Bills do things, for better or worse. Either way, I don't think Rany Moss is really going to help the Bills out... I would be much more impressed if they could re-sign Steve Johnson, and then add somebody like Dwayne Bowe or Vincent Brown. I think adding Moss would make the Bills look more pathetic and desperate to other potential FA's.

I have no clue as to what you are talking about, do you? -
I mostly agree with this...but not so much the part about Vanek. He has been one of the few players to produce this year on a somewhat consistent basis, and he does it all, with a coach that just does not seem to embrace him as one of "his guys". Incidentally, there seems to be growing rumors that a trade is being looked at with Chicage, Ryan Miller for Patrick Kane. I would love that. Miller has played much better since early January, but he just has a history of going into tailspns. Kane is having a bad year (12 goals or something like that) and Blackhawk fans seem to think he has gotten "fat and lazy"...sounds like our kind of guy? I think I would still make that deal. Not sure how legit it is, but I have heard it twice, in the last 3 days...fwiw. It really is time to purge about half the Sabres roster...I will be interested to see how Pegula and Black react. The only excitement left in this NHL season, for a Sabres fan.

I think Whitney Houston was a terrific singer, though I never loved her songs. I think she inspired a whole wave of awful, over the top singers, and that is too bad. She had much more restraint than those who came after her. I think her version of the anthem was really good...not sure if it is the "best ever", but I think it ranks up there as one of the least embarassing of those sung by other pop stars. Since you mentioned it, what is, to your ears, the best you have ever heard. If you say Steven Tyler or Roseann Barr, it doesn't count! -

Okay, I will bite. What is your point? To be tacky, or is this supposed to be funny? Or, even worse, is this supposed to be insightful? -
Which is exactly why I would take a chance on Owens, over Moss, at this point, if I was inclined to take a chance at all. Perhaps it is just PR, but Owens, now that he is down and out, has admitted that many of his troubles were his own doing...I don't get that sense from Moss. I hate to say it, but I just think Moss is a bad dude. Talented, no doubt, but a bad guy. I know it was a long time ago, but that whole incident where he tried to mo-down a woman (a security guard IIRC)with a golf-cart just speaks volumes about his character to me. He may have been young at the time, but if you don't know that is a bad move, by the age of 24 or 25 (or whenever it was) chances are you aren't going to change much.

Personally, I don't advocate the Bills signing Moss or TO, at this point. Beyond their perceived off the field issues, the Bills are a building team, optimistically, another season or two away from making serious noise. Guys their age (Moss is 35, Owens is 38) just are not, in the long run, going to help the Bills at this point. However, if I was an NFL GM, and felt I had a real shot at making a move in the standings this coming season, I would be more inclined to sign Terrell Owens at 38, than Moss at 35. Both will have their physical questions, but I think Owens has shown that he appreciates his situation a bit more than Moss.

Randy Moss responds to Cris Carter: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/02/14/on-moss-cris-carter-says-teams-should-worry-about-that-thing-called-quit/related/ "Carter’s criticism struck a nerve with Moss, who took to Twitter to say to Carter “its sad how u stroked ur own ego when u were suppose to b my mentor! then u wonder why karma bites u in the ass! #goodlukwithhof”

The league has announced that the first All-White NFL draft will be held on the weekend on May 6-8th. Day 1 of the All-white draft will be held at the Amigone Funeral Home on Clinton St, in Elma, NY. Day 2 and 3, the proceedings will be moved to the Bit-N-Blanket Tack Shop, over at 1300 Maple Road, in lovely Elma, NY.

That is definitely Jaworski's strength, but the MNF broadcast doesn't really allow for much of that...3 men in the booth makes it even worse. May take crap for this, because he seems to be universally loathed, but Dan Dierdorf is so much better on Sunday afternoon games than he was on Monday Night Football. I heard him interviewed, talking about how different it was doing a Sunday afternoon game, than it was doing MNF, where you were encouraged to over emphasize things for the casual viewer, that the harcore fan doesn't really care about, or already knows. It is sort of like a Super Bowl-lite in some ways. It is expected that wives and girlfriends are more likely to be watching a prime-time game with their partners, than they would on Sunday afternoon. Maybe this expectation is what makes the MNF broadcasts so weak?
-
I really am not a big fan of the MNF broadcast on ESPN, at all. Tirico is dull as hell, Gruden, in 3 short years, has gotten old and stale, like John Madden did, after 25 years(who was much better at this schtick), and Jaws, much as I love the guy for his studio work, is just not a good color guy. I like Gruddens' football camp shows, or whatever they call them, but not so much because of him...it is more cuz I just like the idea of breaking down the highly touted college players one on one...he is just not a great broadcaster for games. As crazy as it sounds, it can work...and as crazier as it may sound, Mike Patrick, Paul Maguire and Joe Theisman were good together...even though Theisman was a blowhard. All in all though, right now, Michaels and Collinsworth are the best in the business.

From her speech, and some of her interviews, she sounds to me like somebody who, maybe even more than the family issue, is just having a difficult time coping with the pressure of having one of the biggest selling records in a couple of years. She likely is wise, artistically, to take time off. Taking your show on the road, to promote a "new" record, after it has been out for 2 or 3 years can drain an artist's creativity. It has happened time and again. Sometimes winning that Grammy can be a curse. btw- I didn't wasn't trying to be "so mean" about Adele...
-
Agreed on Cake....liked Nirvana, and I think Foo Fighters suck ass. As for Adele...I guess I may get some flack...but I don't really care for her...I actually liked a song from her first album (can't remember the name, "Right as Rain" I think) and I know she can sing..but I just find that kind of thing a bit dull... now that she has announced that she is taking "4 or 5 years off", post Grammy's, she will likely go the way of other Grammy divas...you know, a new album every 5 years, lots of hype...dull as can be! http://www.aol.com/video/adele-plans-5year-break-from-music/517272447/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl5%7Csec3_lnk2%26pLid%3D135830 Workig in a music store, I suspect our bins to be full of used Adele CD's in about a year.
