You think Obama might have killed Breitbart?
-
Maher would be a much better comparison to Rush, than Stern or Chris Rock. I like Maher, as you obviously like Rush. He does make me laugh a bit (more for his points of argument than his legit "jokes"), but I also disagree with him pretty often. Maher is very critical of both sides of the political persuasion, and was probably the most visible person, critical of Obama very early on. Maher will also give credit where credit is due. I have never heard Rush do that. I suppose it is possible he never thinks anyone who doesn't see things his way could ever be right about anything. Rush's "schtick", if you will, is to identify where "the line" is with any liberal/conservative issue, and immediately plow over it. He can never re-consider a position. He will always use the most base, inflamitory language he can get away with, to denegrade somebody or something he doesn't agree with. He seems to have particular issues with minorites and women. The bully on his pulpit.

What was your favorite candy when you were a kid?

They do. I used to like them as well...but I am getting old...always afraid they will fug up my teeth... -
I admire your on-going defense of Donte Whitner...I always liked him too...but then I am never sure if you are being serious.

I don't particualarly care for either, and I don't wish them dead. I listened to Stern in the late 80's, early 90's when I lived in NYC, and, honeslty, he made me chuckle from time to time, but more often than not, he pissed me off. I haven't listened to him in many years, maybe decades. As for Chris Rock, I have never understood why anyone thinks he is funny...he has rarely made me laugh. Now, if you are trying to draw a correlation between them, and Rush Limbuagh, you are being intellectually dishonest (one of your favorite accustions). Sure, Rush calls himself an "entertainer", but he came on the national scene, in the late 8o's as a "conservative commentator", and there are those in the Republican party (the ultra-conservatives, not all) who seem to view him as one of their leading voices.

I know, so many people feel that way... I love the stuff...of course, now you can get gourmet black licorice, or Australian black licorice...both excellent, but a little pricey for candy. I will stick with my black twizzlers. -
For the Stones "classic stuff" (pre-1982) I am not sure that he needed to do any more than that. I think his playing on "Some Girls" is pretty exceptional, for what it is. He is no Neal Peart (a good thing in my book), or even John Bohham or Keith Moon. But, his anchoring, meat and potatoes style fits the Stones perfectly. Other than Mick Taylor, and maybe Ron Wood, nobody would argue, even in their prime, that any of them were top flight musicians. But, whatever they did, it works, for me anyways. btwo- I used to play too...but I wasn't that good...I will take your word on it. Have you listened to any of Charlie Watts jazz recordings? Pretty nice stuff...

Sorry, I didn't realize I was being challanged to admit it was sarcasm. I wasn't being sarcastic when I said I don't like him, or that I don't think his particular brand of humor (which 3rd referred to as "sarcasm") is very clever, only hateful. But, I was being sarcastic when I said I wouldn't feel too bad if he choked on a ham sandwhich...so, I am coming clean...you got me! I didn't think it was that hard to follow...must use more emoticons.

Chef, you do realize I was joking, no? It was a way of bringing up a news topic, about Rush, without starting a new thread. I guess you guys just don't "get my sarcasm"!

Funny you mention Chuckles...my dad loved them when I was a kid, so, naturally, I hated them. I only liked the black ones...cuz I always loved black jelly beans, and black licorise. Now, the book store across from my job sells Chuckles...tried some, they are awesome! I got a few packs for the old man too! -
C.Biscuit...there are two Ryan Millers, and both play goalie for the Buffalo Sabres every year. It has been that way for a few seasons. As tremendous as the good Ryan Miller has been the last 15 games or so, the bad Ryan Miller that played through from mid-November through early January. He "couldn't stop a beach ball" for about 30 games or so. The bad Ryan Miller is as responsible for this disappointing season as anyone. He was really awful. And he has had awful streaks like that nearly every season... it just was a lot more pro-longed this year. The Lucic incident didn't help, but he was playing pretty badly before that as well. I love the way he is playing now...but I would still deal him if there was a deal out there that made sense for the Sabres. If the NHL used goalies like MLB uses pitchers, I would be fine with Miller, cuz you know how amazing he can be. Right now, he is seeing everything. But, when he is bad, he is really bad.

He isn't really all that sarcastic, just crude. Things like referring to Michelle Obama as "Moo-shell", or as a "watusi woman" just perpetuate a lot of bad things, as far as I am concerned. As much I didn't care for Andre Breitbart, I wouldn't accuse him of the same. I don't think Rush is stupid, by any means. Thart is what makes his brand of "sarcasm" all the worse for me. He knows his audience, knows whatt opinions they want re-inforced, and he delivers at every opportunity. I just don't like the guy...normally people who I disagree with the most, love him. I see a corralation.
-
To my ears, he is a hate mongerer. You may disagree with that, I don't want you dead though!
-
Now you're just being a dick! That is heresy.
-
He may or not be a criminal...but Rush is scum of the earth in my book!
-
Don't be too hard on Chef, he just realized that the Archies didn't really sing "Sugar Sugar"

Your incredible certainty, despite your equally incredible ignorance is always fun!

Okay, I reserve the rigth to ammned my original statement...there is almost nobody whose death I would celebrate...but if this guy were to pass on appropriately (like choking on a ham sandwhich), I wouldn't be upset: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/29/rush-limbaugh-sandra-fluke-slut_n_1311640.html?ref=mostpopular

I will have to search for that Teddy Kennedy thread...
-
Ah...not necessarilly offensive, just funny. Honeslty, not a swipe at you. It just amazes me that(not just you, I mean pretty much everyone here) the death of someone is even a political volleyball. I am not an admirer of Andrew Brietbart, but I don't celebrate that he is dead. I can't think of anyone I would be "happy" to see dead. I suspect most feel that way, if they are not in tune with his particular perspective.

So classy...I will remember this.

Yup! If you applied your logic (and I am not saying it doesn't have merit) there really would be no Monkees songs, or countless other pop phenoms. "Steppin' Stone", along with most of the Monkees hits, were recorded under the same circumstances. The songs were recorded under the guise of the Monkees, the band name was slapped on the recordings...so, they are Monkees records, whatever that implies. Most of their hits were written by the likes of Boyce & Hart, Neil Sedaka, Neild Diamond, etc etc...the music business was a bit different then...part of what made Lennon and McCartny, Jagger/Richards, Nanker-Pheldge so special. The Monkees themselves were the 60's equivalent of Spinal Tap. Four actors, cast to play a Beatle-like pop-band. Only Mike Nesmith (and maybe Peter Tork a little) had any musical competence. I did get to see the Monkees in the late 80's/early 90's, and by that time, they did play their own instruemnts.
-
Well...I know they didn't write it (Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart wrote it), but "they" recorded it as much as they recorded any other song. I am sure the music was played by a bunch of session guys...Mike Nesmith was the only one who was a musician, when they were cast as the Monkees. I am pretty sure, if nothing else, Mickey Dolenz is singing the vocal. It is likely much like that with most of their records. For all intents and purposes, it was the Monkees....and it was a great single.
-
I think Juarnimo was pulling your leg...he is quite the jokester! Kind of the ieatcrayonz for the new generation. They bordered on light-weight, but "Steppin' Stone" is one of the great garage-pop tunes of all time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y08ingivLdQ&feature=related
