Bills Training Camp Ranked #3
Buftex replied to auburnbillsbacker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I went to Fredonia a few times as a kid, and went to St John Fisher, once, in 2007. I think the St John Fisher is a a lot more "fan friendly" than when they were at Fredonia. There wasn't as many people at Fredonia, and, as I recall, you came and watched practice, maybe got some autographs as the players walked on and off the field, and that was pretty much it. I don't remember there really being any merchendise are or anything (at that age, I would remember!). When I went in 2007, I went with my brother in-law (a Chiefs fan), but, it seemed much more family oriented, and like more of an event. This was just a normal, moring practice...it was the first practice of camp. I guess the difference was, at Fredonia, you kind of felt like you were there just watching guys at work, and seeing what you could...but at St John, it seemed a little more of a presentation, if that makes any sense? My brother in-law, who played college ball (and a litte time in WLAF)couldn't believe how simple the Bills drills were, and how casual it all was. I wrote his harping on it as just taking digs at the Bills (he hated them), but, in retrospect, this was the Jauron era...they had a reputation for having soft practices...part of the reason players loved Jauron so much, I suppose. Either way, I had a blast at the 2007 camp. Probably more fun than I have had at a lot of the games I have gone to in Buffalo over the last decade or so. I normally only make it up for one, and it is whichever is closest to Christmas weekend..those games have (until last year, and the last game TO played against the Colts)been pretty miserable experiences...really wanted to try to make it to camp this year too, but finances made it unfeasable. I have been to a few training camps (Jets, Giants, Redskins, Cowboys, Falcons, Raiders) and I have to say, the Bills at St John Fisher is the best time I have ever had at one. -
I have many problems with ESPN too (repetitive, redundent)...but you know, sports are entertainment. And, of course their goal is to get ratings...this isn't anything that is a new phenemenon.

I just started and finished watching Breaking Bad

Somehow, I think that kid recognizes Walt... it could be what, ultimately, turns Jesse against Walt. It is going to happen. Did you get the feeling that Walt's "advice" to Jesse about having to deal with his girlfriend was "fatherly" or a passive-agressive threat? -

I was actually making a point about Walt, in reference to earlier discussion in this thread...Walt has very few, if any, redeeming qualities at this point... I think I will be sadder to see Gus go, than Walt. I would love to see Mike be the one who takes him out, ultimately. But, with the teaser at the begining of the season, I got a feeling it is going to get much bigger in scope than what we have seen so far. -

Not to harp on the "Sopranos" vs "Breaking Bad" thing, because I love both these shows...but the big difference, for me, despite the fact that Tony Soprano and Walter White are both great characters, in the "anti-hero" vein, I always, emotionally, wanted Tony to come out on top, even though he did horrible things...I am finding Walter White much easier to root against...the fist three episodes of this season, for me, have stripped away any lingering fondness for the character...he will get what is coming to him. -
Had to work tonight, so I didn't get to listen live...but here is a link to the Berman interview...good stuff! http://www.wgr550.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=5959460

The word is that Addai just "quit" on the Patriots: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82ad4053/article/joseph-addai-reportedly-quit-on-new-england-patriots?module=HP11_headline_stack

I will keep my ear to the ground CBP... sorry you had such a miserable experience in our increasingly annoying city!

Kind of cool, I read that Ronnie Wood is headlining one night at a Blues festival in the UK, Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor will be part of his band...if only he could have gotten Brian Jones too! Ronnie Wood and the Strolling Bones!

Paint it black, you devil!

Tonight is the first night of GR55's new nightly Bills show, hosted by John Murphy. He will be broadcasting live from training camp...from what I gather, this will be a year round program...like the Sabres show hosted by Kevin Sylvester. It goes from 7pm-9pm, eastern!

I knew this was going to be something stupid!

Guys, these are fluff pieces...hardly earth shattering stuff, even if Edward R Murrow was doing the story. These are not hardcore photojournalism pieces... the work on these things is not award worthy, but does it need to be? People should just relax, sometimes...just sayin'

I miss that too...used to hang out on my best friends porch all night, during the summer...it seemed like summer break from school was endless...

"kitten" as in kitty? Tough love!

Hey Punch...I know what you are talking about, because I remember this being an huge issue that year, the number of times the Bills passed on 3rd and short, as opposed to passing...it definitely wasn't 110 consecutive times...assuming you are right about the issue coming up in the Houston game. I went back, the week before that, they played the Cowboys in Dallas (I was there...one of the worst Bills road games I have ever been to)... the Bills woeful offense that day had 3rd & 3, or less, come up 4 times against the Cowboys. They ran it twice (a -1 by Sammy Morris, and a 5 yard gain by Travis), and they passed it twice (6 yard pass to Dave Moore, and a Bledsoe sack)...so, I don't think it was a 110 times, but it was still a head scratching number of times...

Sorry...but you understand? I kinda like the song, until it breaks into that hideous chorus...and kind of liking the intro is what makes it all the more worse...when he gets to the part "every boy needs a girl...." it sounds like it came from the "Glee" soundtrack or something...it is hard to explain...just always hated this record.

IIRC, the Bills stopped scrimmaging with other teams when DJ took over... I remember, when I first moved to Austin, the Dallas Cowboys used to have their training camp, literally, about a 15 minute walk from my apartment, at St Edwards University. I realize, it was the Cowboys, who I loathe, but it was always fun to watch them scrimmage against the Raiders. Lots of fights, the two teams did not like eachother...Raiders would come here one weekend, then the Cowboys would go to the Raiders camp the next weekend..then they would normally play in their first pre-season game...granted, the Cowboys were loaded then, but when you watched their inner-squad scrimmages, you never realized how talented they were...but against the Raiders, everything got amped up...I think it is good for the teams.

I definitely remember this...but I am not sure it was 110 attempts...you may be right, but I was thinking it was more like 45...maybe I am wrong...probably...but 110 sounds beyond comprehension to me. Funny thing is, Kevin Gilbride, as notorious as he is, has been the OC for some of the most prolific offenses of the last 20-25 years...I think, in retrospect, Bledsoe was just over the hill....too over the hill to be the focus of Gilbrides' offense. I also think, overall, Ruben Brown was a better than average guard for us...too many remember him more for his (too)frequent off-sides, and ignore his decade of solid play for the Bills. Too bad.

There are always people who just always hate specific players, more than they like any of them. Lots of losing does that...

We were wrong about the Chris Kelsay extension!
Buftex replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have pretty much towed the line that, when "everyone" here comes to a popular opinion on a certain player, "everyone" is normally wrong. -
Okay...one just came on the oldies station...I couldn't turn it off fast enough... Lou Christies's "Lightening Strikes"...maybe not such a bad song, but the vocals are so irritating as all hell...almost like somebody doing a really bad Franki Valli & the Four Seasons immitation (not crazy about Franki either!)...or an outtake from Rocky Horror:

Crayonz is so crazy! Wait, Heat over Lakers in 6?
