Which current Bills will be on the Jets Roster for Game 1?
Buftex replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marcus Easley? -
So, 11 more cuts by Monday. Whose future with the Buffalo Bills (at least until the final cuts) is dependant on how they play this Saturday? You would think Thigpen is dangling by a thread (they would have cut him by now if he wasn't), who else?

I agree...."brutality" or "excess" force should have some context. Cops are human...to me, given the gravity of the situation, she got off with the equivalent of a parent smacking their kid on the ass when they are mis-behaving. Her state, behavior, and crimes escalated the situation to that point. Dealing with beligerent drunk people has to be one of the more diffiult situations to be in.

For what reason were you stopped by a cop, and what was the cops reaction to you not listening to them? Just curious. As for this situation, I do think the cop appears to use excessive force, but I also think, given the circumstnces, it is far from "police brutality".

Bills fan makes ESPN Hall of Fan Top 10, needs our votes

The part about moving to WNY got him my vote...err votes! -
In all fairness to Goudy, he was likely three sheets to the wind about halfway through the first quarter.

I was just gonna say that!

I don't mind you saying Jeanneret is overrated...if you can take me saying that Van Miller was way overrated...I like him now, more, in retrospect, because, for better or worse he was the voice of the Bills during some of their best times...but I never really cared for him. Kind of feel the same way about Larry Felzer....I hated him growing up, but appreciate him more now, just for the nostalgia aspect. Funny growing up in WNY in the 70's, before the tv and radio broadcasts were the same for the Sabres games, I hated Jeanneret. His voice was the anti-Ted Darling (I agree...the best!) and hearing him do the games was like punishment for having to listen, rather than watch the games. Now, I like RJ. I like him because he has an old school style, and he is/was world's better than most of the other guys, doing the same thing, on NHL broadcasts around the legue. Also, Jeanneret has a great sense of humor, and is pretty sublime at times...it isn't always silly, family friendly stuff either...remember once during an some banter in between whistles, Razor was talking about how some of the Sabres were using pink hockey sticks, to raise awareness of breast cancer...after Ray muddles through explaining (the way only Ray can muddle through) the mic goes back to RJ and he says, very matter-of factly, "well, I think healthy breasts are something we can all appreciate and get behind". IIRC, it was when Jim Lorentz was still doing color...you could hear a surpressed laugh as RJ went back to doing his play by play. RJ is over the top, but his energy kind of matches the energy of what is (or should be) a fast, energetic and frenetic sport. Football is a little different. Sure, it is full of action, but it is much slower paced. I don't hate Murphy and Kelso, I think they are alright. Listening to other broadcast teams around the NFL, I get the feeling it isn't the easiest game to call. Voice is important, and I just think Murphs' is kind of bland. I actually think Ray Bentley sounds pretty good on the pre-seaosn broadcasts, kind of a little like Criqui, before he started sounding older.

Truth is, there is still a small chance the Merriman could surface somewhere else, and make some sort of impact. But, i think, as you say, this is more a move for the future. The Bills can't really depend on Merriman, and they seem to really like the younger guys they have. I wish it had worked out, and we had "lights out" Merriman, but it just doesn't look like that was going to happen. As high as we are on the Bills (or some of us still are!), baby steps...this team is being built to compete for four or five years, hopefully longer...younger guys need the playing time to get better. I don't think removing Merriman from the roster really weakens the defense any, and may make it better in the long run.

Good line, but not entirely true... any number of players in the field for a pre-season game are playing for a spot on the roster, so they are motivated...or at least some. I agree preseason games shouldn't cost as much as regular season games, and season ticket holders certainly should not be charged for them at all, IMO. But, it is what it is...we all gripe about how much pre-season sucks, but most of us watch the games when our teams are playing... I actually watched a fair amount of the Steelrs/Colts game tonight, and it was actually, all in all, a terrific football game.

Movie/music Recomendation: "Searching For Sugar Man" Rodriguez
Buftex replied to Buftex's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Shoot...wished I would have seen that.... youtube! -
Your probably right...but fanatics have a tendency to remember the bad, more than the good. I don't watch the Saints all the time, he does...he always hated Meacham. I always had the same thing on Don Beebe, back in the day...his drops always stood out a lot more to me than his catches, because they were usually the passes that looked easiest to catch.

Just went to see the documentary "Searching For Sugar Man" about "cult" music icon Sixto Rodriguez...all I can say is "WOW". I have been a big fan of his music since I first heard it, about 5 years ago...his two albums were made in the early 70's..."Cold Fact" ranks in my top 20 albums of all time...if you like Dylan, or Donovan, his stuff is sure to appeal... and his lyrics are as topical as if they had been written in 2012. Loving the music, I was blown away even more by this documentary...I don't want to say too much about it, but just know it is getting universally great reviews...limited number of places it is playing, but keep your eyes peeled. I don't want to say too much, cuz, if you are not familiar with him, you will find the movie even that much more intriguing... all I will say, he was a folk singer from Detroit, who was never recognized, or made a penny anywhere, but became a musical legend in South Africa....for me, music is the most powerful thing there is....this movie shows it... Do yourself a favor, just load this, and listen to the whole album why you are perusing the wall...great stuff.

To top it off, the Chargers lost Vincent Brown last night...from what I hear, Meachem has not looked good in camp sessions either... a good friend of mine is a huge Saints fanatic. He warned me, when the Bills were in pursuit of Meachem, "you don't want that guy on your team". He always said that Meachem would make a spectacular grab every now and again, but drop pretty much everything else...

I hear you... and I don't put a ton of stock in pre-season games either. However I do think you can tell some things from them. You say that Young had "chance after chance to prove something", and I am not sure I completly agree with you on than...30-17 as an NFL starter is not too shabby... his problems in Tennessee were with his coach (and we can argue about who was to blame in that instance), who never wanted him on his team, and, in the eyes of many, looked for excuses to unseat him as his starter, as much as he looked for ways to help him succeed. Young has had some maturity problems, no doubt, and he may not be a rocket scientist, but he has enough athletic skills. I think, that somebody could win with him. And I just think, if any coach could do that in the NFL, Chan Gailey is on that list. As for the differnces between Fitz and VY, they are different. I would rather not see it come to choosing VY over Fitz, but, if it did, I think Gailey is versatle enough that he can design a game that caters to Youngs strengths. I mean, if you recall, the Bills won with Jim Kelly and Frank Reich. Reich wasn't the same QB as Kelly...but they managed to figure it out. Its' not like it hasn't been done. IMO, Gailey's dream QB would combine the strenghts of both guys (Fitz' mental edge, w/ Yongs physical gifts)

Young looked much better tonight (not perfect, he will never be) than last week. I have not been as down on Tyler Thigpen as most here, but he was pretty bad tonight, when it counted most.. that 4th & 5 worm burner he threw to Namman (I think it was NR) gave me bad flashbacks of Losman...and then I started thinking, he is a lot like Losman....can look pretty good at times, and then just awful when you think he getting in a groove... Anyway, Tasker made, I thought, a good point about Young. His athleticism, and arm strength, give him a better chance of coming off the bench and pulling a game out, if needed, than Thigpen. Young is likely always going to have some maddening tendancies, but as we saw, tonight on the hook-up with Graham, his big play-making ability can keep a team in a game... as Tasker said, as a backup, he wouldn't get as much practice, so being able to rely on his athletic skill (and he has a lot of that) just gives him a big advantage over a guy like Thigpen. Thigpen isn't a bad athlete either, but he doesn't have VY's combo of size and speed. I enjoyed watching Young tonight. It was all downhisll after he went out of the game...kinda wished Chan would have left him in the final 4:30 of the 3rd, just to see if he could put the Bills in the lead. Young may not put together a lot of long, sustained, efficient, time consuming drives...he is more likely, rather than an efficient 15 play, 80 yard drive, to give you a 5 play 70 yard drive, where 62 of the yards come on one play...and you want to tear your hair out the other 4 plays. Funny, I agree with you pretty much...but where he looks pretty awful is short passes....he just isn't accurate on short passes...when somebody referred to his "laser like accuracy" earlier in the thread, they were likely thinking of his early days with the Titans, when he threw a fair number of deep, accurate passes to pull out games....I like his long ball....but he still struggles on the short stuff. He just isn't that guy who can fit a short, tight pass into traffic for a drive sustaining completion...but he might be able to scramble, at elite level, and have the same effect. Being in Austin, I have been watching the guy for all of his college, and quite a bit of his pro-career (he is a god here, they show VY whenever they can...might get more Bills games here if he ever starts). He might not be the most coachable QB ever...and honestly, I think that is where he and Jeff Fisher just clashed...Fisher wanted him to be something he can't be. I think Gailey, maybe as much as anyone in the NFL, can get the best out of him, if it ever comes to that point.

Horshack joins Epstein in sweathog heaven....

I think Travolta tried to use that rationalization to his wife, earlier this year! -
Funny thing about Dylan, particularly in his old age, he shows up in the oddest places...I remember being mortified to hear, a few years ago, he was going to make a cameo on the sitcom "Dharma & Greg"....turns out he just admitted he wanted to bang Jenna Elfman...he played a drummer in her band, on one episode. Around that time, he also did a lingere commercial...his reasoning, "if you're gonna do a commercial, it has to be for something you believe in" I am also kind of a closet "Pawn Stars" addict, or at least I used to be...didn't seek it out, but if I stumbled upon a "Pawn Stars" marathon, next thing I know, 2 hours have passed....one day, I am on a "Pawn Stars" bender, and this little nugget shows up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVZEp70Fie4

As Marcellus Wiley said on ESPN yesterday, of the pre-season "What's good is good, and what's bad is not as bad as it seems in the preseason"

I will see 15 of 16 games (regular season) at Third Base, here in Austin... every year, I have one mandatory Sunday I need to work, for the Austin City Limits music festival..at that point, I will drag myself home around 11pm, having avoided NFL football as much as possible all day, to watch the Bills/Cardinals game on NFL Rewind. I have been following this routine since I moved away from Buffalo for the 1989 season...I have only missed one regular season or playoff game in all those years...I saw that game months later on VHS...it was the Bills getting their asses kicked by the Colts, when Kelly got hurt and blamed it on Howard Ballard...the bickering Bills days! I have sat through a lot of bad football...but I can't pry myself away... recent years start with waking up early, listening to the pre-game show on-line (I hope GR55's pregame show is better than it has been, now that they carry the games) as a stumble around the house, doing my choirs....around 11:15am, head to the bar, for the noon kickoff! Love the routine...life just seems much better, to me, during football season. Luckily, my girl doesn't hate the fact that I love football (she watches the Cowboys games every week..what a dope! ), so it is cool... I usually try to make it to one game, maybe two, per year....this year, it will be the game at Houston (close to home)... I also try to go to the game closest to the Christmas holiday when I go back...not one this year! Hate the schedule!! I have missed plenty of preseason games over the years, until the Pre-season package became available on line, I was lucky to see one preseason game a year...or should I say, unlucky enough!
