  1. 15 minutes ago, Maine-iac said: McDermott making a good case for him never being anything but a DC ever again. He inherited a top ten offense and has systematically run it into the ground with help from the rest of the Bill's organization. All those picks and cap space and we have a "project QB" with a cannon arm and unproven ability to run an NFL offense who after being drafted top ten is not even ready to start. Even if he was the rest our offensive personal is so bad we have to wonder if we wouldn't ruin him just because everything around him is so bad. Then to add to that we brought in an unproven and (when he had the chance) ineffective OC to "coach him up". All the makings of a dumpster fire. Best case scenario we get a bunch more picks to throw into the abyss next year.” Good lord. They are trying to do a proper rebuild for the first time this century rather than fielding a mediocre team year after year after year. This season is going to be very long. Get used to it. They have no cap space this year, that’s next season. Most rookie QBs aren’t ready to start or are better served sitting, yet you’re going to throw Allen away and label him a mistake before he’s made a single throw. McD inherited a top 10 offense? What? What an absolute joke of a post. Try having a bit of patience...you should have learned how to do that by now as a Bills fan. Or should they just keep firing coaches and GMs every 2 years? Does that work well?
  2. Listening to a lot of NY sports guys lately - many seem to be of the opinion that the Giants love Darnold. If CLE takes him, the Giants will trade out, if they take Allen or Rosen, the Giants stay put. If it goes Allen at 1 and Darnold at 2 to the Giants, the Bills would probably be looking at trading to 4 or 5 for Rosen or Mayfield so they don’t get jumped by someone else.
  3. Smith is 33, and not that good. If he hadn’t had MVP chatter early in the season I think he’s available for a conditional 3rd or 4th. Today, it will probably take a 2nd and Glenn. Meh. Cousins is 29, and is good. He’s a Free Agent. He will almost surely sign the richest contract in NFL history.
  4. I have four options, in order of preference. 1. Sign Cousins. QBs of his talent level are rarely available for only money. He’s going to get a lot of it, he probably won’t be worth the contract he signs, but so it goes. He’s a huge upgrade over Tyrod. 2. Trade up to pick Rosen, Darnold, or Mayfield. Getting one of the first two will probably require going to pick #1. The Giants aren’t trading out of #2. That means we will give up both of our 1sts, next years 1st, and a 2nd or 3rd rounder as well, at least. The way Mayfield has been soaring up draft boards, the price would only be slightly more palatable. I don’t see Glenn or Tyrod having the trade value to lessen the draft pick cost either. If the guy you trade up for becomes the guy, it’s worth every penny. If he doesn’t, it’s a disaster. 3. Wait until next year. Keep your picks, draft good players, trade down again with one of your firsts. Keep Tyrod for one more season, or sign Keenum to a 3 year deal. 4. Trade for Alex Smith. He is not a huge upgrade but if the price isn’t too high he is an upgrade nonetheless. See #3, he is an extended bridge, with potential to maybe be more.
  5. Not quite true. They would still be out if the Titans and Ravens win out as well
  6. Exactly why you shouldn’t be rooting for the 49ers.
  7. Because if us, them, and LA are tied at 9-7 we’re in. If if it’s us and LA at 9-7 and Tenn at 8-8 we’re out. Tiebreakers are complicated.
  8. The chargers also have a very easy schedule. So does Baltimore. Obviously we want them to lose. They very well may not, however. And if they don’t, we need to win out OR we need Tennessee to win tonight or next week.
  9. You guys need to listen to the others in this thread and stop rooting for SF. If we finish 9-7, the most realistic way we get in is a 3 way tie with Tenn and LAC. That means the chargers win out, and the Titans go 1-2 (and the win can’t come against Jax). This looks likely looking at the schedule. If the Titans can’t win today or next week, then we have to get a loss from LA or Bal. much harder it seems. Cliffnotes: under likely scenarios, a Tenn win this week gives us a clearer path.
  10. With the way the Chiefs are cratering, we're looking pretty good I think. Say we finish 7-9 and the Chiefs finish 9-7. For the sake of argument let's give the Bills the 12th pick and the Chiefs the 21st. Well also assume that the Dareus pick becomes a fifth rounder. the draft trade value chart is not considered very accurate, especially when trading top of the draft picks. But let's use it to look at the Eagles trade for Wentz, and see What they gave up according to the chart. In order to go from 8 to 2, the Eagles traded current 3rd and 4th rounders, next year's 1st, and the following years 2nd. The 2nd pick is worth 2600 points. Considering future picks are normally counted at half their value, the Eagles traded 8 (1400) 72(230) 115(64) future 1st (700) future 2nd (250). Surprisingly, this matches almost perfectly in terms of value. 2600 for 2644. The Eagles also got back a future 4th, bringing it even closer to 2620. So so let's look at the Bills going from 12 to 2. A package of 12 (1200), 21 (800), 44(460), future 2nd (250) is more value than the Eagles gave, at 2710 instead of 2620. This should be plenty, and would still give us a normal pick in every round draft, as well as not throwing away next year's draft. If we end up worse than 7-9, or if we only need to trade to 3 or 4, it will look even better. Throw this his out the window though if the Bills do Billsy stuff and win 3-4 more game just to miss the playoffs anyway.
  11. Has Dareus done anything during our five wins? Was he a difference maker last season? He is completely irrelevant tonight.
  12. First and foremost, history dictates (and many smart football media / analysts agree) that you should throw away Thursday night results as mostly irrelevant. Teams often play above or below their station on Thursday. Everyone but the league office hates Thursday night football. The players union, especially. That said... 1. The offensive line was completely over run. Cordy Glenn had probably his worst game as a Bill, but I blame him less and the coach more for Jordan Mills being inactive and Ducasse being a starter. The "rotation" on the oline is questionable. 2. We need to find a way to pressure the QB. A four man rush with the current front line is clearly not working, and it's not just this game. You cannot get shredded by the likes of McCown by giving him nearly unlimited time to throw. I have trouble understanding why we didn't start to see more aggressive blitz packages in the third / fourth quarter. 3. Shady got hurt in the second half and we got a glimpse of this team without a running game. Hint: the offense is not viable without a runnning game. And Tolbert is not going to do it. There is no depth at the RB position. This is a problem. 4. Tyrod wasn't bad tonight. He was constantly being pushed out of the pocket. He made some good throws. His struggles to move the offense are on the shoulders of: 5. The line, but more importantly the offensive play calling. Uninspired. Terrible? No more comment. 6. Benjamin is here, Clay is almost back, and our current receivers did well. That's a positive. 7. F@$k ISIS. The jets came out playing inspired football to bring some positivity after the latest terrorist attack on their city. Final thought - a few big plays going the Bills way could have changed the outcome of this game and, perhaps, hid the teams weaknesses for another week. O'Leary's fumble...the missed INT...some of the penalties...but maybe this is a good thing. They needed to see their weaknesses laid bare. McD needs to learn. My thoughts going into this game were the Bills need to win 2 of 3 against the Jets, Saints, and Chargers to have a good shot at 10-6. That is still very possible. Learn, learn, LEARN young Sean over the mini-bye. And please help old Dennison learn as well.
  13. People put entirely too much stock in Tyrod's ability to not create turnovers. You don't throw interceptions when you play extremely safe and conservative football. Making big, challenging throws regularly is more important than being the no-turnover ever QB. The problem is that Tyrod can't make those throws with any consistency. I really don't know how anyone can defend him at this point. He is not the answer long term, if you can't see that I don't think you are watching the games.
  14. Music city miracle, when I was 15. Tears of anger. I had such fury for the referees. I felt worse for a few days than I did when my first girlfriend dumped me. Now I know they made the right choice.
