  1. I'm almost embarrased to say that I enjoy watching that show with my kids. They're really into it, but I do think that Bo and Carrie will go on to have successful recording careers. The Vonz isn't that bad either. As for the other two... I'm a Rascal Flatts fan and if I remember correctly, they got thier 'break' on Star Search of all shows. Now they're one of the best country acts out there. I will however say that this is the 1st year I've watched AI. Past years talent was terrible. At least Bo (excapt for his TERRIBLE Free Bird performance) seems like a genuine rocker...heck, he even got busted for coke. And Carrie, you've got to love that gullible farm girl mentality...there's some things I'd love to teach her, ahem. Flame away Joe...
  2. Gates has been spending too much time playing X-Box...
  3. Gents, As someone who grew up in Buffalo and now lives in California I know exactly what JP's trying to say. There are many bitter, angry people who live in Buffalo and want to use the tired old "I work harder than you California pansies" line. I hear it all the time when I go home on leave. There are people left in that city who have this attitude about anything not from Buffalo...that it's all bad. In a larger sense, it's that type of mentality that, IMO is what's killing the city. I'm sure many of you know the type...because you don't stay out drinking until 0400, but instead work hard to get ahead in life your some sort of weak being. I've never understood that logic. I agree with JP, give the kid a break, he's not RJ, and I'm pretty sure he's going to show us that with his play on the field. I can't say I blame him for being tired of the comparison...shoot when did RJ ever spend as much time in the city learning his craft. The point is JP is doing all that he's capable of to try to earn the respect of his teamates as well as the people of Buffalo...what else can he do?
  4. Agreed Rocceo, when the News lost Carucci and when Felser retired, the sports reporting (particularly the Bills) went way down in quality. I know some have issue with Felser, but I genuinely enjoyed reading his columns.
  5. Happy B-day LA...From a San Diego Bills fan... Keep the motivating avatars coming!
  6. U.S. Marine Master Sergeant- Currently working in the Miramar Inspector Office aka, the complaint department. We handle congressional special interest items, hotline complaints, inspections, etc. Will be departing to Camp Fuji, Japan at the end of May. WooHoo!
  7. You beat me to it...And people wonder why people are leaving Buffalo at the cyclic rate.
  8. FWIW, my oldest son was born in mid-November. When he was eligible to attend kintergarden, my wife and I, being new parents were all gung ho about putting him in schoole early. A friend of mine at work who had older children cautioned me against it and recommended that I wait and start him a year later for the reasons you list above. Well, I didn't take his advice but wish I had. My son is now in 7th grade and while mentally, he can handle the work, he dosen't have the level of maturity of some of his classmates who are as much as a year and a half older than him. My best advice to a parent with a child born in Oct-Nov would be to hold-off on placing the child in school. Just my $.02
  9. This sounds alot like Buffalo politicians...
  10. Chevy- As someone who moved out of the area in the mid-eighties when I joined the Marine Corps, I have constantly thought about moving back to my 'home' when I retire from the Corps. Because of this interest, I keep a close eye on the area. My observations are from actually living somewhere else and observing how other municipalities are run. I'm very sad to say, but Buffalo puts the funk in dysfunction. I also have most of my family still living in Erie Cty, and in my weekly talks with my Dad, I've opined to him over the years that your system is broken and that the area was rotting from the inside out. He and my brother, lifelong Democrats, countered regularly that I didn't know what I was talking about, etc. Unfortunately, my prediction to them has become the reality. I'm actually proud to say that my Dad has started to come around and sees what is going on there... One of the benefits of having spent 20 years in the military is that I've been conditioned to have a solution when I identify a problem. In another thread within the last few weeks I wrote of a personal story regarding my wife's family as an example of one way Buffalo could begin to help itself (if you're interested). You mentioned in one of your posts that Buffalo has dug itself into a deep hole. We have a saying here in the Corps that when you've dug yourself into a hole the best way to begin to get out is to stop digging. The tax raise you advocate is just more of the same. As far as tourism is concerned, 1st one must understand that Buffalo will NEVER become a major tourist destination. The whole casino fantasy that was circulating for years was just another bad idea by the idiots running the place. Man I could go on forever... I simply ask you what your solution to the mess is. Complaining how citizens from ANOTHER COUNTY may have to pay more than an Erie County resident to golf is but another example of the entitlement mentality that exists there. Until the entitlement mentality changes, the city will continue to decay. Ask yourself this...clearly the local government cannot afford all the workers on it's roles, so how do you lure employers into the county to replace the lost jobs? Tax increases? Not a good idea in my opinion...
  11. Bobblehead, that is some funny sheet man! But seriously, it doesen't look like Mikayla's mom is going to get that silicone she was hoping for...too bad
  12. You wrote that? You're joking right? I think if you've spent any time reading the posts here at PP&P, you have a pretty good idea of what people think. My take on your article is that you favor continuing to support a broken system. The 75% who disagree with you have probably had their fill and want change. So you claim that Giambra only has three associates and family members working for him in the county? I think you should check your facts. I don't even live in the region and know you're way off the mark. Buffalo is a hell hole with the best and brightest leaving at the cyclic rate, but your idea to fix this is to add "just a penny" to the sales tax. The best way to sum it up for me is to offer a question and answer that should make my position clear... Q. Do you know what the definition of insanity is? A. Doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different result.
  13. One of the major problems with Buffalo is the overall attitude of much of the remaining populace. I go home in the fall each year for a few weeks to provide wild game for my family (deer). I still associate with my core friends from high school (20 years ago), and while I never throw it in their face, I've got to say their attitude sucks. The is an entitlement mentality that exists with many of my friends and local family that they must change if they ever want to improve their county. An example of merely one way Buffalo could help itself is my own family. My wife and her family are from here in Southern California. My father-in-law owns a business that makes industrial silencers for large scale diesel engines. He operated his business in a 10k sq.ft. facility in LA until 1990. While in LA he faced paying into an oppressive workers compensation system that was completely broken. A quick example of one issue that I recall happening to him was the worker who asked for a raise. When my father-in -law declined his request he went out on a stress disability for 6 months- receiving generous benefits from the State (paid by you know who). The worker was a welder for crying out loud! Anyway, that is but one quick anecdote as to why he was open to moving. At some point he was approached by the Chamber of Commerce of Lincoln, Nebraska. They detailed a proposal to him to move his business there where he would receive initial tax breaks from the State as an incentive to move. This is in addition to a lower cost labor force. Additionally, he was able to affod a facility that was twice the size of his then current shop while saving 1/3 off the rent. Well, guess what he did? Now, here's where the folks in Buffalo generally go high and to the right...TAX BREAKS?! For a business?! Soak the rich!! No corporate welfare! Anyway, to bring youu to present time, he has expanded his business and currently has 110k sq.ft. of floor space over four bulidings. While in LA he employed 26 workers, he now has 151. So what does this have to do with Buffalo? 151 taxpaying, productive citizens are good for Lincoln, NE's economy and would be good for Buffalo's too. The Politicians and many of the people in Buffalo have no vision. Until the attitudes change there, the city will continue to die. Folks need to get out of the 60's and 70's in their thinking. I sincerely hope that this situation will cause most of the remaining population to change their attitude.
  14. He's like Cher and her annual farewell tour. Except here, it's an almost daily occurence. Buh-bye /Sarcasm
  15. Having not checked in here for awhile, I look here today and whoa and behold...A Rabid meltdown! Wow, what have ya'll done to our little Navy friend? It seems he's having a Hunter S. Thompson moment. DON'T EAT THE GUN DUDE! IT'LL BE ALRIGHT!
  16. I'd recommend you steer clear of TJ, that place is becoming VERY dangerous with the drug wars that are happening down there. My best advice is to hit the Gaslamp or PB and support a local American establishment.
  17. Unfortunatly, I won't be here for the game...I've got orders to Camp Fuji, Japan, and am leaving in May. But if anyone is interested, I can usually get VERY good seats from our base ticket office (Miramar). The last two times the Bills played here, I got seats on the Bills side of the field at the 45 yard line 15 rows up. If you're interested, PM me and I'll check on what I can get. I'm not sure when single seat tickets go on sale, but will find out if anyone's interested. FTR, San Diego is affected by all of the negative items listed in the above post. But, I'm not going to beef about the real estate prices. My house has more than doubled in value after just 5 years of ownership...You don't get that kind of return on you home in Buffalo...
  18. We've been getting hit pretty hard here in San Diego. But if you're from Buffalo, this stuff is a walk in the park. The key's to minimizing the impact of the weather, I've found is to: 1. Don't build your house in a dry river bed. 2. Don't build your house on a hillside on stilts. 3. Don't build your house at the base of a burned out hill. 4. Remember that a MINIVAN is NOT a BOAT. 5. Slow down to at least 65. 6. Increase your following distance from other as*holes, er, drivers from the normal 1/2 car length to at least 5 or 6. 7. Don't play in drainage ditches. If you follow many of these simple rules, everything should be fine...
