This is getting beyond old
SD Jarhead replied to buffalo mike's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
First of all, God Bless our fallen brothers and sisters. May their families be comforted that they gave their lives for something larger than themselves. I pray that they did not die in vain, that we will accomplish what we set out to do. Dr. K- As an active duty Marine, I firmly believe that this struggle is neccessary for the preservation of our freedom. We must not be deterred, we must not fail or the long term ramifications could be fatal to our nation. I could be a retired Marine right now, but believe in what we're doing. Know that there are some fine young men and women keeping our nation safe. To continue this mission, we must continue to recruit the best our nation has to offer. As far as the President, I believe he acted based upon the intellegence he had available at the time. But this argument is not for today. Let us mourn those who gave all for what they believed in. -

You're asuming he even knows who Carl Rove is... -
I totally agree with Kelsay's comparison of Buffalo fans to Lincoln fans. My in-laws live there and I've visited many times. I immediately noticed the similarities between the two communities. If you don't already have a college favorite team to pull for...Big Red is always a good option.

Combat Badge authorized for all
SD Jarhead replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Granted there are idiots in every service...mine included. As an example, I offer the book Generation Kill. It's an outstanding read on the reality of the Iraq invasion and the feelings and attitudes of those who executed it (specifically 1st Recon Bn). I've talked to folks who were in 1st Recon at the time and they feel it accurately portrays much of what they went through. It also describes how fugged up some of the leadership was. If you are interested in OIF, this is a must read. -
Combat Badge authorized for all
SD Jarhead replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No argument here...I agree completely with your post. Because of our culture in the Corps, we don't have these concerns. The whole Beret issue to me is pure comedy. "Hey. instead of changing our culture, let's give everone a beret...that'll improve their self esteem. Yea...That's the ticket!" While I can't honestly say I've never met a ass kisser in the Corps, I can say that when I see a Marine with a Bronze Srar or greater, I know they earned it. I can't say the same for the Army or other services. -

I'm sure glad you didn't include the USMC in your quote. I'm not trying to dog the Army, but they give bronze stars away like candy. As far as the issue of Soldiers who engage the enemy in combat, I personally see no problem with awarding a badge or ribbon distinguishing the fact that they saw combat. In the Corps, we have the combat action ribbon. It does not matter what your MOS is, if you took and returned fire, you are authorized to be submitted for the ribbon. The Commander has to request the award for a Marine. When you see someone with one, you know they were in the sh--. Because every Marine is a rifleman, we don't have petty squables over who should or shouldn't receive the recognition because of the job they do. I read the May 26th edition of the Marine Times where they detail an ambush that Marine cooks and motor 'T' guys guys fought through and kicked ass. Why shouldn't they receive recognition for their actions? As far as the Lewinsky's (berets(...don't get me started... -
Hmmm, maybe we're on to something here?

Thanks! I was only there once right after it opened last year during deer season. It looks like they've cleaned it up quite a bit...but it'll never be the same without Metzy.

Being a Hamburg guy, my favorite places when I get home are Kettles South (now Pour Boys), JP Fitzgerald's, and for the best wings in the world, Mamoser's Tavern. I used to hit Callahan's and Mickey Rat's during the summer. Any one remember the Salty Dog? I saw Metallica with about 400 friends there in the early 80's...

Kelly Ripa...now we're talking HOT. She's hotter than a half !@#$ed fox in a forrest fire!

She is buck nasty...I don't understand why some hick country singer married her when he could of married some hot hick country music groupie.

I love outdoor activities like hunting and fishingand also love the country. These are things I can't get in San Diego. I personally would love to come back and try to make a difference in the area where I grew up. I love the area...I think many of Buffalo's problems are about attitude. If you could change the attitude of the citizen's there, it would go a long way. But so many who remain there are so bitter. As far as the women in Cali...don't get me started. They are healthy and beautiful...

1. Jioned Marine Corps in '85. 2. Been primarily in San Diego since 1987 (though currently at Mt. Fuji, Japan for next year) 3. San Diego is, well, San Diego...need I say more? Although real estate prices are obscene, I was fortunate enough to buy before the market went crazy. 4. I would, but my wife wouldn't (she's from So. Cal) 5. Lower corporate and individual income taxes, cut government, change 'us vs. world' attitude of locals, dump current politicians out on their head, etc.

Gotta love our old ally France and their 'fearless' leader Jock Shirock... Is anyone else embarrassed that we consider France to be an ally?
-
Yes they are veterans, shoot I am a veteran of multiple campaigns. But I don't ever plan on living there. That stated, it doesen't mean I don't have compassion for those who are wounded. But as Darrin opined, there are some gravy-training veterans out there who think they are entitled to the world because they served 20 years. I've got to agree with VA and some of the other posters here about what happens at the end of service for some. There are those who will try to milk the government for all they can get in the name of being a veteran. Most recently, I worked with a Gunny who was near retirement. This clown spent more time in sickcall and Balboa medical center than he did at work...no exageration. You wouldn't believe the ailments he came up with 9 months from retiring. It makes me sick to my stomach, because I knew exactly what he was trying to pull. He had everything under the sun listed in his health record so he could go back to the VA and petition them for increased disability. When I read stories like the one Nozzlenut posted, these are the type of people who come to mind for me. Also, CD, you conveniently failed to note that I and every other servicemember involuntarily pay $.50 a month for this place...
-
To bring this back to Nozzlenut's original post, I think the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The creation of this home was a nice idea. But when you consider the extremely small number of veterans it actually serves, I'm not sure it's worth it. There is a need to cut spending in this country, and this to me is just one example of someones budget being cut a bit and them not liking it. I personnaly despise the entitlement mentality that exists in our country, and that is what this looks like to me. It's funny how they advocate increasing the amount of money (in fact doubling) contributed by servicemembers every month. I say fuggedaboudit! As far as the 'beloved' administration, I think they should be applauded for trying to save some money.

Petrino in Syracuse? Has he moved? I serve to protect this idiots right to be an idiot. But I don't sweat mental midgets like him. I firmly believe that what goes around comes around, and Petrino in Syracuse will understand this sooner or later. Hopefully sooner... -
Military recruiters now banned from High School
SD Jarhead replied to jimshiz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Hypocracy 101...Againt, the radical leftists in this nation have nothing else to offer except killing babies, gay marriage and military bad. They talk out of both sides of their mouth. I'd like to see the military pull the bases out of the Seattle area and watch them grovel. It truly is sickening. This is but another small chip away at the foundation of our nation. We see these small chips at an increasing rate, but eventually the house is going to fall as the foundation crumbles. -
