You forgot this tidbit from the story "And if ANWR oil replaces foreign oil barrel-for-barrel, that means the U.S. is importing less oil, Budzik said, and fewer oil imports mean a stronger U.S. dollar." Why not become less dependent on foreign sources? Liberals are the ones who want us out of the Middle East and this is one small step to help us do that. Look, I like to eat caribou as much as the next guy, and if I thought they were in some way going to be harmed by this I'd probably not be in favor of it. But what the fug? -

What church does this guy lead? How long has McCain been attending it? Seriously...I don't know, but he's McCain's pastor? -

Here's my point BF, at first blush you were not in favor of it and really didn't know why. That is the stance of so many people that it's sad. The whole issue is a political football and the Democrats won't consider drilling there for mostly political purposes. We've all agreed this is not a silver bullet for our energy crisis (which it is becoming quickly), but it is but one of many steps we can take to lessen our dependence on foreign energy sources. Now folks need to see the issue for what it is, another example of our fukking politicians not doing whats right for the country, but what's right for them and/or their party. -

I agree with you that if you feel one way about Iraq then you must be against drilling in ANWR, but most people I'm familiar with who want us out of there do not support drilling because of party dogma . Using your analogy, then what is the answer for reattaching the limb? Certainly there isn't a single solution, I've never suggested that. But tell me why so many are not in favor of at least developing that area. Because of the Caribou? Give me a fuggin break! Many have picked up the Democratic talking point and have no idea why. -

I think the benefit is obvious, it's less than we would need to get from overseas sources. Additionally, it would take ~9 years to even see the first drop. My question to you is what is the cost? Surely we're never going to gain total energy independence from solar energy, so why even do it...right? That's how I read your response. Why are you so against tapping domestic resources? Aren't you someone who wants us out of Iraq and the Gulf? You can't have your cake and eat it too. -

Agreed, if there were suspected to be no benefits. http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/fs-0028-01/fs-0028-01.htm http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/2002/fs045-02/ -

So we shouldn't do it at all? Should we just say the hell with it? I don't get that logic. The whole Carribou argument is pure BS from the enviro-nazis. -

At this point, I will probably vote for McCain, but if he continues to push such 'great' ideas as the gas tax holiday, I may have a difficult time pulling the lever. I do believe that McCain will be able to reach across party lines much more so than Obama will to get things accomplished. He has a proven track record of doing so, hence his "Maverick" title. As I've opined here before, conservatives better wake up and smell the coffee about conservation. Just because someone believes in conservation doesn't mean they're a hippie. But GW got it right this past weekend when he said that the people here screaming the loudest about gas and energy prices are the ones who are standing in the way of allowing us to become less dependent on foreign sources for our crack, er, oil. Why the fug not open up ANWR? Why not start designing and building nuke power plants? It's not a total solution, but at least it's a start. While I believe in the freedom to drive a huge SUV if you want to, I can't stand the arrogant boasting from many on the right about it being our God-given right to do so. I was listening to an interview yesterday on the Michael Medved show of Fareed Zakhara (spelling?) and he brought up a good point about politics today and why our nation is so fukked up. He mentioned how back during the Reagan Presidency there was much more cooperation on key issues. Reagan and Tip O'Neal (again sp?) worked together on key issues like tax reform. We just don't see that today in the toxic political environment we have. -

So today our House of Representatives passes a bill to sue OPEC countries that are "limiting oil supply". WTF! I'm sure it has nothing to do with our weak dollar and the fact that we are consuming like crack fiends. Think about this- they have the oil, we are addicted to it (as are other countries) and so they are able to charge more. If Sam the crack fiend wants his drugs, but Habib and Bruce Lee are also becoming addicted and have more cash to spend, he can raise his prices. This election year posturing is too much. What our Congress needs to do is stop mortgaging our future by slowing spending. The blame everyone else first line of defense is getting old. We as a nation are being forced to lie in the sh------- bed that we made for ourselves. Yet, these assclown's aren't willing to discuss solutions, they just want to be able to blame and sue someone. Fuggin lawyers... When the !@#$ are we going to wake up? -
This thing was decided before they even voted. The 'judges' were total homers for 'Aw, Shucks' Simon usually tells the singers to sing a song like they would for an album of their own. David A almost never changes the arrangement. I think it will actually work out better for David Cook to not win. Then he won't be branded with the "AI" winner tag. But hell, what a hokey and lame show it was... And what's with that Andrew Lloyd Wright dude? That guy is queerer than a three dollar bill.

That's awesome! I can't wait for the future!!!! Si Se Puede!!

I'm personally hoping he can turn water into wine, then he might get my vote. I already know he's going to turn my paycheck into pork, but that's already been done numerous times over.

Bro's before Ho's dude! Don't you get it? She's deeply offended...she's got feeelings man!

It's the strange man...happens all the time. I just hope it was good. She probably wasn't blowing him since she hasn't had a hit song in forever... I have a saying- If you're going to !@#$ up, !@#$ UP!

Need an Excuse to Hate Americans?

What's Liza up to these days? Isn't (s)he pregnant and sporting a beard? Hmmm, a beard. That does it! I'm voting for the candidate who grows a beard! It will help exude his (or her) manliness to the rest of the world and should help our relationship with the Muslims, because they LOVE beards! Shoot, Akmedinny-Jihad might even scrap his nuke program if our next President grows a beard...I think I may be onto something here. If it works for him http://nicedeb.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/chuck_norris.jpg, I'm sure I'll work for the next President. -

I think you are right on with most of you analysis, and some can be blamed on Bush. We have systemic issues that both parties continue to fail to address. Our weakened dollar is a direct result of our government AND consumers borrowing ourselves into oblivion. As a nation we are spending our way to ruin. The war is a large part of it as is the other bloated programs GW has put into place with his initiatives. Although I'm not a huge Obama fan, I like what the messiah had to say at the Oregon Rally- that we need to conserve. I don't know why the Republicans are so afraid of telling Americans what they need to know. It is IN OUR NATIONAL INTEREST to conserve! McCains' gas tax 'holiday' is political pandering at its worst and I can't believe his advisors let that one out. But we also need to start becoming energy independent from the crack dealers. Nothing happens overnight. It will take years to design, permit and build a nuke plant. ANWR, while not a sole solution, is an untapped resource that we should be exploiting. The bottom line is that I think Bush was spot on this past weekend when he said that the people here crying the loudest about high energy prices are the ones who obstruct progress from happening locally. -
Did he perform any miracles for the crowd?

Actually it is a serious question. What are the limits of our freedom? Look, I have a sister who is homosexual. I don't hate her, I love her. But why must we be forced to accept these unnatural behaviors as normal? I completely agree that this issue is just one of those 'shiny object' issues to distract us from dealing with the things that will eventually destroy our nation if we don't deal with them. I'm not passionate about this. But at the same time, where does it end? I have gay friends who I regularly associate and spend time with. I don't think any less of them but don't necessarily agree with their lifestyle. But at the end of the day, who really like's everything about another person? We chose to overlook perceived flaws in our friends character in order to maintain a relationship. I'm sure that's how they feel about me also.

So what's your point? Does that make it OK becuase they're raising a 'straight' kid? Funny. So when are we going to allow 'marriage' between a man and a dog? Or a man and a pig? I know some of our posters here are pining for the day it's made legal. It's all in the name of freedom right? Where does it end? Who's to say what the limits are? The people or the courts?
