  1. NIMBYism will be a major contributing factor in the downfall of our nation... Why do you think the oil companies aren't drilling on all the land they presently have leased? Even when approved, where are we going to build the Nuke plants? We're looking at YEARS of litigation before the first shovel of dirt is moved.
  2. Head down to Balboa Park in the city...You'd have to be Evel Kneivel jumping the Snake River to clear them all...
  3. We've got more than our share here...don't even think about it!
  4. Isn't that where we're most likely headed right now? The mortgage mess will surely pass, but the dynamics are different today than they were then. I know the sky isn't falling and I apologize if I come across that way when posting. I remember the late seventies very well, although I was only 10-14 during the Jimmuh years so my perspective is one of a teen for the most part. Being from Hamburg my family was greatly affected by Bethlehem Steel shutting down (my step-Dad lost his job) and experienced some very lean times as did many in Buffalo. I realize we have a looong way to go until we see unemployment figures and interest rates where they were then. While certainly that wasn't the end of the world, it wasn't a great time for our nation either. I don't think the outcome of the present situation is certain as of yet and that it could go either way. As mentioned above, the Chinese and oil producing Gulf States have a lot riding on us not melting down. As the old saying goes "When the US sneezes, the world catches a cold". Let's hope that's still a true expression and it's in the Chinese interest to help us get better.
  5. Silly, don't you know it's OK for a black person to say Nigga but not !@#$. I'm sure that's all The Extortionist Jesse Jackson was doing... There's no double standard here...move along.
  6. Mammy's fries the wings then they BBQ them on the grill. The hot BBQ is incredible! Mmmm, I'm getting hungry thinking about it. For those of you locals who don't already know it, you can but Mammosers wing sauce at Tops or Wegman's. It is not a liquid, but a paste. EVERY single person I've introduced it too has said it's the best sauce they've ever tried.
  7. If you want the best Wings in the world- Go to Mammosers Tavern in the Village and try to choke down an order of suicide- It kind of like eating the 6 pound Steak in Texas- you just can't do it. Or, if you ate an order of hot yesterday, try the BBQ. There are none better!
  8. Edies is my new favorite pizza joint when I'm back home. I still love The Now also-Joel can make some pies! Blasdell used to be great but has fallen off some over the years. STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM JIMMIES! I tried it the last time I was back in town because I heard T. Anderson owned it. It is definately sub-par for Buffalo pizza. Oh, and before I forget- Tina's in the Village has awesome Calzone and White Pizza!
  9. I really don't envy Ben Bernanke right about now. He literally has the weight of the world sitting on his shoulders. Correct me if I'm being melodramatic, but the dam is cracked and looks to be leaking. I hope he can shore it up... http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/fc250ac2-5361-11...?nclick_check=1
  10. HOW DARE YOU! Oh, wait...I just filled in the missing letter/ pBills
  11. I understand both of your positions, and quite frankly, my approach is very similar. DCA'ing into funds is the way to go for me. I don't buy individual stocks (with a few exceptions) because I don't have the time or interest to thoroughly research them individually. I do move money around in the funds available in my and my wife's 401k though. When the DOW hit 14k I pulled a large chunk of our investments into Stable Value funds. In the near future I'll probably move them back into index based funds. They say not to try to time the market and in some ways that is what I'm doing, but at this point it looks like a wise move. WRT metals, I don't qualify as a 'gold bug', but may be a silver bug. I bought 10k worth to hold as a hedge. If as many are predicting, we go hit hyperinflation or stagflation and the dollar continues to fall, it will pay off as a good bet. We'll see. Either way it serves as piece of mind in uncertain times.
  12. Flash news alert for pBills! I found another site with Obama in a turban! The audacity of Dope! Hopefully this doesn't spawn another 8 pages of tripe, but here goes. PBills-take a qualude before watching! It's time for some campaigning! http://www.jibjab.com/originals
  13. Agreed! I know 1st hand...I'm married to one! She's loco!
  14. Well they were probably Canadian too!
  15. Chef- There are quite a few people out there who are bearish on gold. Do you think they're wrong? Do you have any holdings in metals or do you stay away from them? Just curious... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtm.../bcngold103.xml
  16. Can they get the printing presses to run that fast? WTF?
  17. Much of the acreage that they have leases on have incredibly stringent environmental regulations that make it impossible or not cost effective to drill on. They are often the subject of lawsuits by environmental groups when they attempt to drill. Thank organizations like the Sierra Club for that...
  18. What? You mean it is? Now what? Surge meets purge The McCain camaign is poking fun at Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for a report in today's New York Daily News that he had cleansed BarackObama.com of past criticism of the surge strategy in Iraq. "BARACK OBAMA "REFINING" IRAQ POSITION ON OWN WEBSITE," blares the McCain release, which helpfully links to the former versions of the site. The Daily News report by James Gordon Meek says: "Barack Obama's campaign scrubbed his presidential Web site over the weekend to remove criticism of the U.S. troop ‘surge’ in Iraq, the Daily News has learned. The presumed Democratic nominee replaced his Iraq issue Web page, which had described the surge as a ‘problem’ that had barely reduced violence. ‘The surge is not working,’ Obama's old plan stated, citing a lack of Iraqi political cooperation but crediting Sunni sheiks - not U.S. military muscle - for quelling violence in Anbar Province. … "Obama's campaign posted a new Iraq plan Sunday night, which cites an "improved security situation" paid for with the blood of U.S. troops since the surge began in February 2007. It praises G.I.s' ‘hard work, improved counterinsurgency tactics and enormous sacrifice.’ Campaign aide Wendy Morigi said Obama is ‘not softening his criticism of the surge. We regularly update the Web site to reflect changes in current events.’ ” http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmart...eets_purge.html
  19. Will we be issued a victim card that will get us Federal Benefits? Let's see, if you're black you get $xx.xx, if you're hispanic you get $xx.xx. If you weren't born in a suburb you are entitled to $x.xx, if someone drew an offensive cartoon about you you're entitled to xxx,xxx votes, etc. Because really, it's not my fault that I am who I am, somebody made me this way...
  20. Do we start drilling domestically before or after we give them all of our wealth and treasure? It's not really their fault though. They've got the crack and we're addicted.
  21. That statement alone is one that all should be concerned about. And it's also a reason one could point to an investment in metals as a wise choice (that's for you Chef).
  22. I understand your point, but he did predict something like this was going to happen when The Fed was still saying the economy was growing.
