Kyle Williams' penalty
Prickly Pete replied to Bills Fan since '64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think the refs have any ties to the home team...that's why I thought it was strange that the calls were made on the Bills. I know our guys jaw regularly too...that's why I thought it was strange that the calls were made on the Bills. I know it's not the logo on the helmet....that's why I thought it was strange that the calls were made on the Bills. -
It's not Don Shula's Dolphins. Those were the teams that beat up on the Bills (40 years ago!). Someone will say "it's not a rivalry if it isn't competitive" False. And by that logic the Bills/Dolphins "rivalry" doesn't qualify, because the Bills didn't beat the Dolphins for what, a decade? There is only one team in the division that stands out...the Pats. I want them to beat the Brady/Belichick Pats, and beat them terribly before Brady retires. The current Dolphins team means nothing next to that.

Kyle Williams' penalty
Prickly Pete replied to Bills Fan since '64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
15 yards for talking is ridiculous. They swear at each other all the time. It's just inconsistent. The Browns were acting like a**** all game long... no calls. Joe Thomas was falling onto pileups any chance he could get...no calls. I figured it was a home team advantage. Not the next game. This week, talking is 15 yards against the home team. -
Some people like simple answers. They want to know where to point the finger. I didn't mind them going for it, but for once I agree that the play calling had a very big negative effect. Still, they should have been able to punch it in regardless of play calls.

Very disappointed in Hogan
Prickly Pete replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Very disappointed in Hogan"...really? I'm not disappointed in him because I never had any hopes for him. Is this what being a fan of the Bills amounts to? Picking out marginal players to root for, or hope that they might become professionals? It's like picking out Buffalo Bison's players, and hoping to spot them on TV in the dugout in the big leagues. I was hoping that the Bills were good enough that I'd never hear his name called. -
Okay, if it's player puzzle time...which one of these guys is going to stop the run?
-
See, I'm more apt to agree with something like this than "A left guard, a tall receiver, and a wide body in the middle". It's not just a puzzle of players. It's as much psychological as anything else.

I still don't see a GREAT player on the roster. No future Hall of Famers (Kiko might have that kind of career).

I think a lot of the problems (big plays especially) are symptoms of a unit that hasn't been playing the same scheme for very long. Both sides of the ball are playing new schemes. There is a lot of inconsistency to the play. Identity. Good teams have been running the same offense or defense for awhile, and have gradually accumulated players that know it (even backups), guys that fit it, and guys that know their role.

They need some more elite guys. I don't think it's just a specific position anymore, it's depth, and a few more standout guys at any position. People are down n the WR's, but I think they have good talent there, it can take a few years for them to get consistent. A standout TE would be nice. Best Player Available is surely the right draft approach for this team. They aren't gonna make the playoffs.

QB Thad Lewis injury discussion
Prickly Pete replied to Breakdance's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
this team isn't gonna make the playoffs, so it's hard for me to get real worked up about who might play QB. -
Which 0-4 team could make the playoffs?

Yeah, during both games I watched Sunday, the commentators mentioned some confusion. I can't understand why my mentioning that it was needlessly confusing, and not furthering the VERY worthwhile efforts of the NFL to raise money and awareness, should somehow be construed as being unsympathetic.

Okay, hear me out... What if Thad kills it, just nails it for a half, but gets injured. BUT then Jeff Tuel comes in, and KNOCKS IT OUT OF THE PARK! Then what? Then what should the Bills do? Should EJ get his job back, Should Thad? Should we trade one of them for 2 first round picks, but keep the other one the starter, while the 3rd develops as the back up. Lot's of scenarios, and I'm not sure this coaching staff is up to it...

If there is a "system" that can make a guy like Matt Flynn look good, I think the Bills should adopt that system.

That's one week. Across a season, the good teams are more "one or two big plays" better than the bottom dwellers that Buffalo has fielded for the last 15 years. Your theory doesn't take in to account that once a good team has a lead, they usually lay back, and just try to drain the clock. That's what tightens up scores at the end of games. The good teams are way better than the bottom dwellers. The only team in recent memory that didn't let up was the 2007 Patriots team that just destroyed bad teams for ***** and giggles.

Where is The Fan Confidence Level in This Staff ?
Prickly Pete replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they are fine. They were handed a thin roster, that has had lots of injuries, lots of unproven players, a rookie starting QB, and a bad legacy. I think they took chances with the roster that have blown up in their faces. They know they are early in the process of putting the team together, so they took some chances. -
I disagree. It's not that what you say isn't often true. It's that the Bills have been BAD, and though many games in the past may have been lost that way. Most times the team was just plain overmatched. And the difference between Peyton Manning (with an average defense) or even Ben Roethlisberger, and a team with Trent Edwards or JP Losman (and an average defense) isn't "one or two “difference making” plays".

Nope. I'm not really blaming Manuel, he is being nurtured along. But the last 2 seasons, no one with a brain thought they were serious contenders with Fitz as QB, but for the defense. This year they are staying in games, but aren't quite getting the offense they need. It's not running on all cylinders yet. Yes, some big mistakes on defense, but they are by backups, and there are guys already on the roster that will replace them soon.
