NYJ vs NE overtime thread
Prickly Pete replied to Buffalos#1Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Pats are gonna lose enough games, that the division will be up for grabs. They are beat up, and Brady is not the same guy he was before. I would much rather watch them suffer... -

Tom Brady is better than any Buffalo Bill that ever played the game. -
I didn't say they were good, just that the offense isn't any better. Turning a blind eye to the way the games actually unfold, just to point at the amount of points the offense scores, isn't reasonable. I think they are both at about the same stage of development. One hand helps the other. The goal line stand is the perfect example...the offense can't punch it in, looks TERRIBLE, and then the defense lets the other team go all the way down the field. I also think that they have defensive players on the roster right now, that can improve the defense. The offense on the other hand, is developing QB's and I don't expect it to get much better soon.

Joe Ferguson basically blew. Beat me to it... Here's one... The majority of Bills fans are meat-heads. -

Daryl Talley is overrated. Steve Tasker isn't worthy of the Hall of Fame. -
It's not about stats. It's about the way a game unfolds. It's about "when" plays are made, and "when" opportunities are blown. And it's about building confidence in a team. This offense is no juggernaut, and appears to struggle down the field, even when it scores. They don't score touchdowns after turnovers. It's not smoothly run, and it doesn't put pressure on the other teams offense by even threatening to break a game open. These kinds of thing help a defense.

He struggled with the exchanges, and I think had some bad shotguns snaps. It was a muddy pool, in a monsoon, and the guy probably hadn't snapped a ball (even on a dry field) since training camp. Mid-game switch of position, so he has to play against guys he hasn't studied on film, running plays from a whole different position, and calling the blocking schemes, all in the midst of a blowout. Give the guy a break.

Good idea. I respect most of your posts, so I would think that you could deduce that Levitre was thrown into an extreme situation. If you want to blame him for being unprepared, fine (I think that would be laid at the feet of the coaches), but I doubt they would have given him the job of backing up the center, if he was completely incapable. It was obvious that his struggles were caused by the combination of not having any reps at center, and the terrible conditions.
-
I don't even care that they let him walk, I'm not a guy that is up in arms about the O-line...but Levitre changed position mid-game, without practicing in who knows how long (training camp?), in a blowout, on a field of mud, during monsoon...not fair to judge his centering skills from that performance. It's been posted many times, and it's misleading. Stop doing it.

If it's 6 more weeks, Lewis has played decently, and the Bills are still in contention (which I doubt would happen if Lewis wasn't playing well), I can't see why they would sit Lewis. His development would be ahead of Manuel's. Of course, I doubt that they will still be in contention 6 weeks from now, but some key injuries to the Pat/Jets/Fins could change everything real quick. (Mayo, Wilfork out is big. I think the Pats are going to lose at least 5 games this season).

I didn't say that was all that was wrong, just that it will help. Even with a better defense, the offense has to get a lot better too. Basically, I think both units have been subpar, and that the offensive style is hurting the defense. I don't think I'm the first to mention it. The effect of the Hurry-up on the defense was a pretty big topic going into the season. I think the concerns expressed then, are coming into fruition. The offense gets no pass from me...
-
Again, don't forget that the hurry-up offense, with it's super fast 3-and-outs is putting a lot of pressure on the defense. The poor punting game hasn't helped either. I don't think it's fair to just lay it all at the feet of the defense. I expect the defense show more improvement as the season progresses (getting some Db's back, and up to speed).

I feel for you. Go back and watch some late 80's early 90's footage. That's exciting football. There were a handful out of what, 48 games????. Those teams played not to lose, and the QB's were AWFUL. In 2007 they only score more than 20 points 4 times, and only had field goals in 3 games (or less...zero in an 8-0 loss. Great stuff) I realize we are hardcore Bills fans, but to an unbiased viewer they were abysmal. No revisionism here, I have consistently watched the Bills since 1978 (10 years old).

I was just about to post about this guy, and lo and behold, it's already here. I haven't looked into the TE's coming out, but he is the top rated guy, and I expect the Bills to draft in the middle (15th), about the right spot for the top TE. As far as the "red flag", I watched an interview with him, and he seems pretty decent. Well spoken, and not all a jackass. He said all the right things, and did it reasonably convincingly. There is some time to go before the draft, and if he keeps it together, there is no reason to pass on him over that incident. He looks pretty good... very strong on the ball (like at 00:26), which is something the best TE's all have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPZ5ZDWEADo

What about time of possession? The defense has had to go out there in some quick successions too, it's worth noting. One hand shakes the other... "Close", yes. "Exciting"....rarely. Those games were snores. Unwatchable. Fitz was a relief even though they kept losing, because at least we saw them score once in a while. What about the penalties? Lots of those were drive killers...Offense.

Kyle Williams' penalty

Exactly. Thank you, Alain Delon. -
Where did I say the players weren't going to treat this game properly? I'm sure it's as important as a game against the Jets or Pats, in the same situation, would be. But I don't think they view the Dolphins the same way they do the Pats, who have been in their heads, year in and year out. I think when they play the Pats, they are aware that theyhave something to overcome, against the Pats specifically. Am I wrong??? Doesn't mean they don't know this game is important (or is any less important than a Pats game).
-
It's a division game, so it's big. If some fans wanna get extra worked up because it's Miami. That's cool, but I don't think the players are approaching this game with the same mindset that they have going against the Pats (or even the Jets), who have humiliated them.
