We shall see if EJM learned anything about 3-4 defenses, this week against the Jets.

Jonathan Martin AWOL, Incognito suspended
Prickly Pete replied to uncle flap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm still wondering if the "malicious attack" we heard about, was from Tannenhill after getting crushed by a guy Martin let through. Unless it involved a weapon, it couldn't be any worse than the abuse Tannenhill has received from 250+lbs. guys weekly. -
This is what some are concerned about, and why a high pick (especially with the new rookie pay scale) on another QB is being discussed. I don't expect them to do it (I think they will bring in a vet), but that doesn't mean I don't think 3 years from now, they will wish they had. Having 2 good young QB's isn't such a bad dilemma.

Especially when they are weak at WR (and TE), why not have their 2 best offensive players (FJ and CJ) on the field at the same time? Both can catch the ball well out of the backfield. ..it's mystifying. Spiller is more dangerous as a receiver than Graham Didn't they watch any film to see what they had in each player? I'm sure they did. I think they have concentrated so much on EJ (and were forced to get the other 2 up to speed), that they haven't been developing plays geared to the strengths of other players enough.

The defense is good enough to win with an offense that can score a bit. I think "Unanswered Points" is a pretty important statistic. This defense can generally keep it together, but if an offense can't respond after a score on the defense, the air will leak from most defenses. What was it today, 20 unanswered points?

Jonathan Martin AWOL, Incognito suspended

Incognito said mean things about his mother, and Martin didn't want to go to strip clubs, but he was afraid to tell him. And then Martin sucked, and nobody wanted to sit with him. And then RI had a sign in his locker that was HATEFUL towards rookies. And then Martin was soft-spoken, but RI was way too loud. Then Martin found out how football players treat guys that should be cut, but are kept around because they were high picks. Then Martin talked to the boss, and the boss said "what? Get outta here, we all know Richie's a loudmouth, just slug him one for all of us. You have my permission." Then Martin didn't want to go to practice, but instead went to get a doctor's excuse. Then the press got some of the story, and they were very excited because they figured they would all meet their quota of "hits' rather easily this week. Then we got to see what a d-bag Incognito really is, and how much his teammates love him. And hate him. Then every single person in the league, and out of the league, and at home, and at work, wanted to tell everybody about a time they were bullied. Then we all got a chance to act surprised that the NFL is filled with guys raging and rolling on PED's and painkillers, who speak and act violently and erratically, and that would likely be in jail if they weren't making multiple millions of dollars knocking into each other. -
I just don't know what this team is anymore

They are a decent team, without a decent quarterback. They have been for years... -
And what was the offense going to do with it anyway? The only points (that had any bearing on the game, and weren't torturous to watch) were a direct result of the turnover from the defense. The offense is The Inert Offense This was also the first game that the team pretty much knew they were out of the playoff race (even if some fans didn't realize it). That could account for the sometimes listless play.

Great article. One difference is that Riddle could easily be cut, but Martin represented a serious investment by the Dolphins, so his performance reflected poorly on anyone that had to do with bringing him in. The Dolphin organization had a lot more at stake with Martin, and it seems to have brought out more extreme measures from them. Normally, I think a guy like Martin would have been cut long ago, but his draft position made that too embarrassing. -

I am trying to picture Mike Williams and Richie Incognito on the same team... -

Honestly, what did you think NFL locker rooms were like? I'm not gonna say these things are appropriate, but they are obviously WWF-style exaggerations. I actually think the extreme nature of these make it seem LESS serious. It's boorish, and unnecessary, but these don't seem like serious threats. Isn't this the same crap they do in Marine boot camp? -
Is TJ Graham any good?

Relax everyone, TJ Goodwin will eventually decide who he really wants to be. -

These TJ Goodwin threads are always good for a chuckle. -

Has Martin threatened to take any legal actions? It's possible that the guy never dreamed things would reach such proportions, and would rather not have his life under the microscope for the duration of a trial, etc. Since so many want to write a narrative to this story, how about this one (DISCLAIMER: I am in no way claiming this to be an actual account of the facts)... Martin might have just buckled under the constant pressure from his teammates, knew he wasn't playing well, and decided he didn't want to go through it anymore. He (or his agent) knew he would have to provide a valid reason, and checks into some kind of mental health facility to "get a doctor's excuse", for a nervous breakdown-type of condition. The Dolphins release the story, or the media gets a hold of the story (I'm not sure who released that he wasn't at practice), and Martin has to explain why he isn't there. Martin is under a lot of pressure to explain himself, so he lets everyone know about the kind of hazing he has been receiving, especially from Incognito, who is in charge of "mentoring" him, is a boorish, obnoxious douche, and who he even has crazy, over the top, WWF-style, voice mail messages from. Now the story truly has a life of it's own... -

What are you talking about? People aren't denying he went to get some kind of treatment, they just aren't sure if he went because he is so traumatized, or if he went to justify leaving the team. Get it? -

What? I can't tell where you are going. I certainly don't believe that all of the news media cares about "the truth", or getting the truth to the people. I'm claiming that people are reaching conclusions based on reports that may not paint the truest picture, and are often intentionally sensationalized. Yep, what's good for the goose.... -

This is what I was talking about ^^^^^ "He went to a hospital, he definitely has mental issues..." If you are trying to adhere to a contract, or set up a lawsuit, it might be the wise thing to do. Then again, he might be insane. I don't know, but no one else here does either. This situation may be WAY WORSE than any of use know, something blown way out of proportion, or something in between. People are trying to translate their own experience into the extreme, abnormal world of the NFL. Taking quotes out of context, jumping to conclusions, and the way the media works now, everything is immediately overblown INTENTIONALLY. They throw stuff at the wall, see what sticks, and run wild with whatever angle will generate hits.
