As I have posted before, I am wondering if the "malicious attack" came from Tannenhill, after repeatedly getting crushed by 250 lb. D-linemen running full speed. I think I would have run over Martin with my car in the parking lot if I had taken some of those hits on Martin's account.
-
It's not, it's about 20 percent of the plays (extra points, punts and kickoffs that are fair caught, or not returned included). C'mon dude. Marv Levy likes snappy phrases that are easy for fans and defensive linemen to remember. And he and I disagree about a lot of things.

Believe me, I am grateful to have been around for those seasons, and those players were a big part of my youth. They were woven into Bills fans lives for about 10 years. The Bills don't mean as much to me anymore (and I no longer live in Buffalo), so a SB victory won't mean as much to me either. But I am one of the people that would rather have all those great seasons, than one SB victory. It's more about the ride, and we saw game after game of incredibly exciting football. I can't imagine that the fans too young to have been a part of that, could really understand. It was great!

It's all good, I'm just messin' around. I don't really take any Halls of Fame very seriously. I know it can mean some good money for the player, but I never intend to go to any of those places, they are like wax museums to me. And the more years that pass by, and the more players that go in, it means less and less to me. I wish Steve Tasker well, and consider him a great special teams player, but I'm more impressed by the guys on the other units, who are catching their breath while the special teams exchange the ball.

The actual Pro Bowl game is a joke. Most players were probably annoyed that he would take the game so seriously. "Chill out Rudy! We are here for the party!" And another thing... None of the other guys at the Pro Bowl play special teams (well, 1 other guy, and he probably had a real job on his team too). So he was going up against a bunch of elite guys, that gave exactly zero $***s about the game, many that probably stayed up all night with hookers and blow, forced to play "special teams" for maybe the first time in their lives. You really think they were putting out for THAT? You think Bruce Smith was "leaving it all on the field"...for special teams plays...at the Pro Bowl.....ya.

I consider Reed borderline, but am VERY happy he got in. Ray Guy....I really haven't given it much thought, but he is measured by his ability to execute a particular act. It really wouldn't matter much who else was on the field. Tasker on the other hand, was competing directly against other people on the field. There is a big difference (though I'm not sure how clearly I explained it). I loved Tasker, and it's not self-loathing, it's a little perspective. WRONG-a-WRONG WRONG, WRONG! I got it here. http://en.wikipedia....rican_football) And here http://www.pro-footb...975/probowl.htm He was NAMED (your words) to the 1975 Pro Bowl team that was PLAYED in 1976. Get your facts straight, man! "The 1976 Pro Bowl was the NFL's 26th annual all-star game which featured the outstanding performers from the 1975 season. The game was played on Monday, January 26, 1976, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana in front of a crowd of 32,108.[1] The final score was NFC 23, AFC 20." So sorry. Frankly, by the time Tasker was playing in Pro Bowls, NOBODY CARED. Bravo to his competitive spirit, but most guys just didn't want to get hurt.

WRONG! Billy "White Shoes" Johnson - 1975

Yeah, this should be interesting. Thanks for finding it, FC.

What happened to the original thread from when this "controversy" started? It was full of some very self-righteous pontificating that I would enjoy reviewing for hits & giggles. I mean people went off! Some very grave, serious assertions. Some very high-handed recriminations were laid out by people who couldn't possibly know what had actually transpired between these 2 clowns.

If 5 guys from the team that lost 4 Super Bowls in a row deserve to be there, then the main RB from premier team of the 80's deserves to be there. The thing is I AGREE that he doesn't deserve it....but either does Tasker! And Tasker isn't, so he doesn't deserve it? Cool

How do you define "country" music?
Prickly Pete replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Then "Country" is "Americana"? -
This guy isn't in the HoF http://en.wikipedia....rican_football) This guy... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Foreman This guy too... http://en.wikipedia....iki/Don_Coryell Can you "write the history of the NFL" without him? Believe me, Don Coryell had a way bigger impact on the NFL than Steve Tasker and Darryl Talley combined.

A List For Future SB Half Time Entertainment
Prickly Pete replied to T master's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I just don't get people gushing over a glorified air guitar performance. I have nothing against Bruno Mars, and I understand why it's not live, but I'm trying to figure out how he "nailed it", "knocked it out of the park" , or any of these other superlatives I have heard from people. He danced pretty well (I have seen LOTS of people dance as well in night clubs), the outfits were nice, but again nothing really notable, the sidemen pretended to play pretty well, etc., but how do you really judge this stuff? Was the "spectacle" that "spectacular"? What are people looking for in these displays? I know why the NFL does it, but I don't know how to evaluate the performances, except to note if they went smoothly, without glitches. -
It certainly plays a role. I think people love "the scrappy little white guy, who plays smart", because they can easily identify with him. People love "Rudy". I'm not really placing more emphasis on the "white" aspect. His size is just as much a factor, and his "nice guy, who play's smart" has strong appeal to the coach-type person as well. He is very much a family guy's type of player. Every dad is telling his kid to play like Tasker. I like Tasker, and have plenty of respect for the things he did.
-
I saw every game. All the arguments for and against have been run into the ground on this board. No need to regurgitate them. I think short, white, family guys (and the women that love them) between the ages of 40 - 65, who resided in the Western New York, and Southern Ontario area during Tasker's career, strongly identify with Tasker (I fit that demographic by the way), and it gives them an unrealistic perspective on his importance in NFL history. I think the more of those elements you remove, the less anyone cares about Steve Tasker, and his noteworthy, but not HoF-worthy career.

Kent Hull is not going to the Hall of Fame. Do you guys realize there are 31 other teams?
-
Yeah, I already said they should make the trade, I just don't think it will happen, but if SF does make a trade, I don't think it will be with the Bills.
-
yeah, this draft is LOADED with 2nd and 3rd round talent because so many underclassmen have declared. Only a very foolish GM would trade away so many picks in this draft. Of course, there are likely a few fools out there, but the Bills would be very lucky to be the team involved in a deal like that, because so many other teams would be willing to make that type of deal.
-
I think Tasker is going to get in as a broadcaster. "Single handedly"....what rubbish. People blocked punts and field goals, and tackled returners before Tasker. The old "you can't write the history of the NFL without him" hogwash...that depends how detailed you wanna get. You can talk a lot of football history without ever mentioning Steve Tasker. If you wanted to write a super detailed history, you could mention EVERY PLAYER that ever played. If you wanna start there, then whittle it down to the essentials... no Steve Tasker. And no, Special Teams are NOT one third of the game... http://blogs.thescor...-special-teams/ You guys are never satisfied. If Tasker gets in then it's "Darryl Talley deserves to... ", or "Bennett has to be considered...". The Bills are very fortunate to have so many guys in, and the best guys from that team made it. Steve Tasker was very good, but....blahblahblah...you guys are delusional homers, and he ain't gettin' in. I think Steve Tasker has strong appeal for a particular demographic.

2014 NFL Draft Declarations
Prickly Pete replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
this is definitely a "trade down if you can" draft, with so many underclassmen coming out. Next year will be a bit depleted. I even think they should consider trading away picks for next years draft to get more in this one. -
My encounter (at a nightclub) was cool for me, because it didn't involve autographs, and wasn't in a "working" situation. I remember that he seemed to be genuinely interested in what the fan's (us) perceptions of the team (and the NFL game) was. A few times I remember him kind of getting an amused look (but not in a condescending way), at some of our thoughts, like he could have corrected us, but just let it go. We were just stupid 21 year old kids. The other Bills that were there were trawling for chicks, but he just wanted to hang out, and drink a little bit.

That also shows that the #1 offense GETS to the Super Bowl more often. I think the nature of that ONE GAME favors the defensive teams. As was discussed earlier, it's easier to play amped up, emotional defense, than run a precision offense in the conditions present during the Super Bowl. I think the best way to get there and win, is to be damn good on both sides of the ball. -

Let's just do whatever Seattle did, and then we will win. Simple.
