Jairus Byrd [was Jarius Byrd]
Prickly Pete replied to Iowabillsfan4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree KJ. Fill the holes with some decent players, and draft talented guys. To me, the idea is to have dependable players at every position, and feature whatever special talents you can draft. Maybe Safety won't be the strength of the team now....so be it. -

I rate him at about the same level as Henry Jones (though not the same style player). -

I think this whole Byrd controversy is way overblown. This isn't an all-time great Buffalo Bill we are talking about. He is very good safety, that stood out playing for a string of very bad Bills teams. If he doesn't want to be here, use the money to shore up another area, and pay the guys that want to stay with the team. -
I think they need to pick up a veteran CB for depth. Justin Rogers may have personally caused them to fall out of the playoff race. Not only did teams tear him apart when he was on the field, but his poor play made them rush Gilmore back, who was then picked on as he tried to play with one arm. The team never recovered from those losses, which put them in a hole. For this team right now, CB depth is even more important than a new WR or LB, but much easier to obtain.

Shore up the weakest positions (guard, MLB, SS, CB depth) with average free agents, and draft BPA.

Ha, not really. I'm mostly suggesting that Freeman sucks, and the Bills (and virtually the entire NFL) already know it. (I actually went to get the link to that article, and ironically enough, discovered it was written by Sessler).

Are the Quarterbacks going to start dropping?
Prickly Pete replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A lot depends on if a team decides to trade into the top 10 for one of the QB's. -
Freeman?!?! Lewis and Tuel are both better. You must not have paid attention to what happened after he signed with the Vikings last season. I would bet my lungs that Freeman won't be a Bill.

This isn't Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas, or Jim Kelly. Honestly, the team just has to find other ways to make up for his loss. It's not like they are letting the focal point of the defense walk out the door. I will be very irritated if they use the 1st pick on a Safety (they won't), but it just becomes a position that isn't as strong as last year. Not a big deal. -
Fletcher was OLD. He was fortunate to play well for a few more years, but to hold that against the team is silly, especially when you look at the rest of the list.

Maybe it was insinuated that if they tag him his Plantar Fbausgas might act up again? We don't really know what is happening, but I am confident that the people working for the Bills have considered the options at least as thoroughly as the fans on this bored. -

Players leave even good teams. If his time is up here, they won't have a safety that is as good. Instead they need to get better in other ways. Every team has to do these things, it's a constant process. -
Jason Peters, Eagle for life (apparently)

This "putting teammate's health at stake" claim is a bit much, and you have brought it up twice in this thread. If a player is playing so poorly because he is out of shape, then the coaches shouldn't him have him out there. I'm sure you are anxious to talk about this... -
I think they have "dire needs", but that it's not so much a positional problem. What they need (as far as players) are talented players that will be committed to winning, demanding of each other, and with leadership skills. That can come from just about any position, and I think would have more impact than just filling holes. You need guys that raise the level of the players around them. I don't really get too caught up in "The Legend of Darryl Talley", but he is a great example of the type of player that isn't necessarily a star, but still raises the game of his teammates.

All I can say is, if they select an O-lineman with the 9th pick, in what might be the deepest draft of all-time, they are complete fools (a right tackle?!!). They should be trying to collect as many picks as possible. If the top-rated players are OL at 9, do whatever they can to trade for some more picks.

Marino, Sharpe done at CBS
Prickly Pete replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't watched it in decades. I'm usually here, or surfing the internet for NFL stuff before games. I think that's what most other NFL fans are doing as well. I thought Marino was just a well-known, good-looking guy, who spoke pretty well, and was comfortable on camera. He just didn't seem very entertaining, or have anything interesting to say. I honestly can't remember a single opinion he gave, or any kind of "player's perspective" insight he offered. He was just there... I wish him well, but doubt he would bring anything special to any team's front office beyond PR. -

Seriously, what was there to like (or dislike) about Marino? Esiason, can be annoying, but at least he is giving a strong opinion. Marino was almost invisible. -

I have nothing against Marino, but he never said anything remotely interesting, and is way too uptight to ever be funny. I am surprised he lasted as long as he did. -
These are 2 guys at the opposite extremes, and neither are developed enough to play NFL football. Incognito had some success, but I guess it's a matter of "err on the side of aggression". It eventually caught up to him. I wouldn't want either of these clowns on the Bills.
