Orton Being Underappreciated Again with Bills
Prickly Pete replied to The Voice of Truth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It seems like most of the deeper throws that are successful, are when it's designed for the WR to comeback for the ball. -
Orton Being Underappreciated Again with Bills

Who's that running WIDE open underneath? Looks to me like Orton not only made a bad throw, but had made up his mind to go with Watkins before the ball was even snapped. I thought that was a typical rookie mistake? -

This one really annoyed me, because so many blamed Woods. Woods is just getting momentum going forward, running hard and Orton throws it low, and behind him. Yes, Woods could touch it, but at that point in his strides, reaching low and behind him would be a very difficult catch. The worst place to throw the ball. Orton wasn't pressured AT ALL. Bad, bad throw. And by the way, a great call of a very nicely designed play from the OC, that had Woods wide open and he would have easily made the 1st down. All Orton. -
Manziel and Cleveland is a lesson to be learned

The Browns were done in every way except the math. I don't care for Johnny Football, but it was only his first NFL start. -

I can't stand Orton's play, but there is no way EJM is going to start. If Jeff Tuel or EJM had started this whole season, they would be playing at least as well as Orton at this point of the season. Orton is completely crapping the bed. Of course, they would have lost too many games as they gained experience, so it wasn't really an option. I think EJM will be the QB next season. Tuel made a bad decision, and probably learned a big lesson. That is easily correctable. I think it's wrong to write the guy off because of rookie mistakes. So if everyone else plays mistake free, Orton can win some games. Why are people defending this guy's awful play? -
Packers at Bills Postgame

The offense is as bad as the defense is great. It adds up to mediocre. -
I'm telling you, this offense would work better than what they are using now. No defense is prepared for this kind of formation. And might not even have enough heavy defenders to line up against it. O-line: Eric Wood, Kraig Urbik, Erik Pears, Cordy Glenn, Seantrel Henderson, Chris Hairston, Lee Smith, Chris Cragg, Scott Chandler. Backfield: Fred Jackson, Boobie Dixon. NO QB. Direct snap. I realize it seems like a joke, but I see no reason why this couldn't work. Maybe send out a WR now and then. Fred can throw about 10 passes just to keep them honest. http://www.clarionle...yards/15702549/

Orton Being Underappreciated Again with Bills

"Work in progress"...this is ridiculous. Rose colored glasses Dr. Pangloss. The offense isn't getting any better. No Progress. Did I read ZERO passing yards in the 1st quarter? It's the 14th week of the season! That's not progress, more like Orton is maxed out. -

Orton is being appreciated exactly like he should be. He is not good enough. I could care less about the stats, you just have to watch the games. -
Those are the kinds of defenses you have to beat if you wanna win a championship. It's not some fluke, the Bills have sucked offensively for over a decade! Face it,They need a better QB! But it sure seems like a rationalization. Like "hey, maybe Orton is good enough, but the Bills just drew a tough schedule of defenses"....NONSENSE! The offense is BAD.

Officials Massaging the Game Thread

The one that really bothered me was when Emmanuel Sanders jumps up and dances around after drawing 2 penalties. That was definitely "taunting". -

I also firmly believe that the "incomplete pass" call on the Manziel fumble was a case of the officials wanting to keep the game competitive, instead of a blow out. I think they were very conscious of the fact that Johnny Football was on the field, and had a chance to "keep the game interesting", keeping viewers on the game. I can't prove it, but it's not far fetched. I wouldn't consider that trying to help the Browns win, but instead, keeping the game competitive. I think that happens frequently. -

Some say that a penalty could be called every play. That is one of the gray areas, what to let go, and what to call. That is one way the officials can influence a game, no? Are they consistent? I don't think so. I think the teams, coaches, players, and circumstances influence their decisions.... -

Perhaps, but it is also an opinion that both calls were "completely legit and correct calls". It's true, I haven't been logging all the instances that I feel there has been a "makeup" call. I suppose in an NHL game, when there is a 5 on 3 power play, it's probably my imagination that the refs are quicker to whistle a penalty on the team with the advantage? -

I don't believe the 2nd one would have been called without the first. The officials were using those penalties to "set the tone". -

I don't think that it's openly directed to the officials. I don't think they are necessarily trying to change outcomes. For instance, when a team is falling way behind, the officials are way more inclined to penalize the team with big lead, if the opportunity presents itself. I see make up calls all the time. For instance, there were the consecutive personal fouls called early in a recent Bills game. First, one on the Bills, then the next play one on the other team (I forget which game it was). It was obvious. -

Yep, them too. Though, mostly OJ. He is the only one that was really on the stardom level of Brady, Manning, Montana. The coaches are a little different. It's more about their power in the league. I'm not sure Levy wielded that kind of power, like Shula, Belichick, and Walsh did. -

Do you believe Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, etc got different officiating? I do. Do I think Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Bill Belichick, Don Shula, Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, etc. also received different officiating? Yes. -
The Possibly Intriguing QB Trade Market
Prickly Pete replied to Bills Fan since '64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right now, developing EJM is the only option with any upside, however unlikely it might be. Just keep EJM and Orton, and draft another QB. And please don't tell me using the 2nd round pick on a Guard is the right choice. There are ways to get good lineman (if a real attempt is made), a QB pretty much has to be drafted. It's gonna take years... -
The Possibly Intriguing QB Trade Market
Prickly Pete replied to Bills Fan since '64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt. He might make the playoffs, but he will never win the big one. I realize plenty of people just want to make the playoffs, but to me that is just marking time. May as well just keep Orton as the starter then, he has just as good of a shot to make the playoffs, really. I want to see a QB that is top shelf. Keep developing EJM, and draft more QB's. The chance of a really good QB hitting the market is pretty much nil (and none of these guys are really good). -

There isn't one guy on that list, that I think has any better of a chance of leading the Bills to a championship than EJ Manuel. In other words, they all suck, and none will ever win a Super Bowl. -
Chad Kelly Signs W/Ole Miss

I have never heard a kind word about him... -
Orton is basically the same guy he has always been. It's not the coach, it's the QB. He's not that good, and the Bills will never compete for any kind of championship without a better QB. It's painfully obvious.
