  1. The joke is basically the same for the Sabres (maybe worse, because they didn't even "win" the draft).
  2. If Spikes wants to make statements about the injustices of the legal system, the Hernandez case is the wrong one to cite.
  3. A troll posts things he doesn't believe to be true.
  4. You can talk among yourselves to assure each other that the Sabres (and their fans) acted honorably. I'm sure if you keep the blinders on, everything will feel better. The fact is, they didn't. And they definitely aren't more honorable than the Patriots (who at least try to win...and do).
  5. I fully understand the concept of "The Tank", and don't need any more explanations. The fact is, everyone wanted McDavid. Eichel is the consolation prize. I won't explain it to you, just read what the rest of the world is writing about it... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/sabres-gm-tim-murray---i-m-disappointed-for-our-fans-011101406.html http://www.si.com/nhl/2015/04/18/nhl-draft-lottery-oilers-sabres-tim-murray-connor-mcdavid-jack-eichel http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/04/buffalo-sabres-lose-nhl-draft-lottery-connor-mcdavid-jack-eichel it goes on and on...face it man, it didn't work out like you, the other fans, or the team, hoped it would. Yep. I'm not sure why that needs to be explained, but when you have your head in the sand, it's hard to see clearly. But another point that really bothers me,and separates it from the Pats (or other teams cheating/bending the rules) is that, not only did the team act deplorably, THE FANS WERE COMPLICIT!
  6. Nope, I just think many Sabres/Bills fans have an odd double standard. The same fans that claim to "deserve a championship" because they have been such great fans (but Buffalo never wins). Now one of the teams is actually tanking a season, and fans cheer for the opponents. All so they can draft a kid who MIGHT bring a championship to the city. That is really sad. Sad because it displays such a desperate yearning for some kind of legitimization for the city through pro sports. It's not a good look. It reminds me of a Kelly Era news column by Donn Esmonde, where he wrote about the fans desperate need to "bask in the reflected glory" of the Bills. And then the same fans attack a truly exceptional organization (NE Pats), and exaggerate any transgression that the Pats MIGHT have made, in a bitter attempt to drag down their accomplishments. Again, not a good look. Well, it's your time to bask in the reflected glory of "The Tank". And you didn't even win that one.
  7. I know the situation. But if it's all good, why is Murray "disappointed for the fans"? Because they aren't getting what they wanted. Eichel is the consolation prize, and that's what tankers deserve.
  8. I know, thanks. McDavid was the preferred player...just letting you know. Should they tank again this next season while Eichel gains experience? It's probably the right thing to do. I mean, they aren't going to win the cup next year, so they may as well finish last. No.
  9. C'mon man. Everybody knows McDavid was the top prize. "6.5%"...really, you have put a number on it?
  10. Are they? I hate the desert, and would never live in AZ, but LOTS of people love it there. Are you so sure that for pro hockey players, devoted fanbases are more important than living conditions? I'm not, and a friend of mine that worked for the Sabres for years, and is a close friend to many former players, made it clear to me that it's just a job to them.
  11. A fitting end to the tank....The Consolation Prize. Edmonton isn't a "good place" for anyone. It's the Siberia of the NHL, along with Calgary and Winnipeg.
  12. Is that bad? I have a feeling that a high percentage of posters here are white, so I don't think you are going out on a limb. I have plenty of problems with the legal system, but not in this case. With this case, I'm having a hard time figuring out why anyone would want to associate themselves with someone that is such a creep. Maybe there should be a little more outrage from the black community too, considering Odin, Bradley, and the 2 other guys he is accused of killing, are all black men.
  13. Next up is "Winner, winner, chicken dinner!" That is ALWAYS clever, and funny....not!
  14. CJ is a very talented guy, and is an asset to any team. Though he has some weaknesses in his game, some coaches could wring a lot of productivity out of him. That wasn't happening here, but I hope it does in NO. He is a great guy, and I have nothing bad to say about him as a person, or a player.
  15. I haven't called for his arrest, or accused him of committing a crime...no need to supply evidence. I'm accusing him of being an idiot, and my evidence is his close friendship with a guy that just got convicted for murder, with 2 more murders to answer for, and a long history of being a violent douchebag. That might not be enough for you to consider Spikes a risk, but it's enough for me. You can give him the benefit of the doubt all you like, but I wonder, if he were still a Patriot, would you have the same opinion?...Doubt it. I don't automatically condemn players just for being arrested, and couldn't care less about the crimes that most of those players have been arrested for. But if I found out they chose to hang around people with the kind of track record that Hernandez had, I wouldn't want to cheer for them either.
  16. ridiculous. To hang out with Hernandez was incredibly stupid. His behavior at Florida should have been enough for anyone that isn't a complete lunkhead, to figure out that he is not a good guy.
  17. I'm no "character comes first" guy, but Hernandez is a whole different level. I'm sure there have been a ton of players that have had shady associations, but this is one that is easily confirmed. My impression is that Spikes is a closer friend than other players mentioned. Of course I don't know how much time/what kinds of activities they engaged in together, but I'm pretty sure team officials around the league have some ideas. I definitely didn't imply that Spikes was involved in any of these murders. But I think it's clear that Hernandez was leading a pretty violent lifestyle (even for an NFL player). Hernandez was an obvious creep, with a long list of violent acts. He was known during his college career for violent behavior. Anybody that hung with that guy regularly (outside of team related activities), is a creep by association, because they should know better, as far as I'm concerned. I haven't seen any indications that Tom Brady or Gronkowski hung out with him. David Nelson's "that's not the guy I knew" is absurd...if he is that dumb, then I wouldn't want him on the team either. Of course, you are free to buy his jersey, and jump up and down when he makes a play. I don't like him on the Bills.
  18. He enjoyed hanging out with, and is a close friend of a guy convicted of murder, due to go to trial for 2 other murders, and that shot a "friend" in the face. If Spikes ends up in trouble, will all the people that attacked the Pats for drafting and rewarding Hernandez ( "enabling" him), then attack the Bills with "all the signs were there with Spikes, they should be accountable"? I doubt it.
  19. He is quite butch out there. It's "Play like you don't know how stupid you are!" I hope Ryan shoots a little bit higher than having Spikes epitimize the attitude of this team. Sadly, I don't think he will.
  20. I realize this was in college, but he definitely has some running skills. I don't think he is at Kaep or Wilson level, and I would much rather he concentrated on his pocket passing, but he can be elusive. More experience, and better coaching should improve his play under pressure, at least a bit. It's mostly about having the confidence to be decisive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYRCkpnnlIs
  21. Yeah, it's probably best to start someone off in "the middle of the road", with some Springsteen. Give the guy a polo shirt, some cargo shorts, a hat to put on backwards, a pair of sporty sandals, play him some "Boss", and he is all set. Rock and Roll!!
  22. I dig the tune, but would never consider it the quintessential rock song. I like 70's Stones (Some Girls best), but Goats thru Black and Blue I consider their weakest records (I don't really consider anything after Tattoo You at all). I much prefer pre-Altamont Stones. You do know that Mick Taylor, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman aren't playing on IORR? Mick Taylor hated it, and thought it was self-parody...I agree. All the pre-Altamont menace was gone, just pure schtick. That's still okay, but not as potent as say "Gimme Shelter"..."Jumping Jack Flash"...."Street Fighting Man"..."Let It Bleed"... Satisf...
  23. Iggy Pop - "Lust For Life" "It's Only Rock and Roll" is considered by many, to be the point where the Stones jumped the shark, and became self-parody.
  24. You guys are the thinnest skinned hypocrites...especially you Beerball. You are so sanctimonious. You and your buddies are free to circle jerk without dissent.
