Maybe Tyrod and/or his agent think Wrex is a clown (like many here think), and like the idea of playing for Kubiak and the SB Champs? Maybe the Broncos are offering something along the lines of what they offered Osweiler? Maybe Kubiak and Taylor have a good relationship from their Baltimore days, and he believes in Tyrod? Maybe the teams are trying to pull in a 3rd team, offering the Bills #1 and Broncos #1, to move up on Draft Day to select the guy they want (if he is there). The Bills are looking at QB's that are expected to be selected high. Lots of maybes, but nothing crazy, or unimaginable.

B/R: Broncos have inquired about Tyrod

Maybe Tyrod and/or his agent like the idea of him playing for the Broncos, and are being difficult in an effort to get Tyrod there? That's what I would do if I were his agent. -
Could Bills draft QB in 1st Round and trade Tyrod?
Prickly Pete replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What if there isn't an "impact linebacker" available in the 1st? What if none of the guys you expect to be available at 19, at your positions of need, are likely to have significantly more impact than a guy you expect to be there in the 2nd round? What if you think Tyrod is merely a placeholder QB, and think you can get a top flight talent at 19? I don't want them to trade Tyrod, but I do want them to select a QB at 19 (if they believe in the guy). Yes, Tyrod will be pissed, but he can still start this season, and prove himself, and even be Franchised next year if he plays great. you can sort it out if he truly becomes an exceptional QB. As far as Wrex is concerned, the last thing I want to see is the future sacrificed to make his job easier. If the QB is there, select him! -
NFL.com: Bills #1 need in draft is OT
Prickly Pete replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This guy is right. It's going to be a player that visits. I'm not very excited about the guys they have brought in... I dread them drafting a D-lineman when we just sat through a season where all the D-linemen complained about Wrex's scheme. D-line is where the talent is, but this defense needs exceptional players at Safety and ILB, and of course, there aren't many in this draft. -

Nickel Defense is the New Base Defense in the NFL
Prickly Pete replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's pretty much what I'm getting at. I obviously don't want them to reach, but if a QB prospect they believe in is there, I really hope they select him. I like Tyrod, but you gotta pull the trigger when you have the opportunity. -

I don't think they need a 1st rd D-lineman, I don't think there is value at WR, S, or ILB (the positions where I think a exceptional player would make the most impact on this Bills team), so I think this might be the draft to use the 1st pick on...a QB. If one of the top prospects is available, but the Bills pass on him, and he goes on to be pretty good, it will be the old "coulda, shoulda". -

So now, after we know that the Front 4 isn't the feature of his defense, why do so many want them to draft D-linemen? Just because the draft is strong for linemen? Get one in the 2nd round... -
WGR on EJ - will he stay on the roster as backup QB?
Prickly Pete replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A starting NFL QB doesn't have the luxury of shaking off that kind of performance. It's not like "yeah, that happened, but now he has "shaken it off" and will be fine from here on out"....ahh, nope. You can't count on that, and he doesn't have great performances to counteract it (like say, Bret Favre does, for his lapses). I believe he has many more of those kinds of lapses still in him, and not many (if any) great performances, in him. -
WGR on EJ - will he stay on the roster as backup QB?
Prickly Pete replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was no anomaly. I believe he is a head case after watching him fall apart against JAX. But even before then, I was walking on eggshells, watching him walking on eggshells. He has some nice skills, and is capable of stringing together some good quarters of play, but I no longer believe he will overcome his jitters. He is passable as a backup if he doesn't see much action. -
This. I couldn't care less about nepotism. If Bill Belichick wants to hire his distant 3rd cousin, that's cool with me. If John Elway hires his son...cool. But Wrex just had a disappointing first season here (after at least a couple in NY), and his brother has strung a few together.

I was a supporter...until the Jax game. But I'm okay with him on the roster for this season. -

That could be said about any player, and the money they save could be spent to shore up another position. If the backup Guard sucks and is forced to play, but they couldn't afford a better back up because they were paying EJM and his replacement, we fans would cry foul. They have to spend wisely, and EJM is already on the bill. They will bring in another QB (who may or may not move ahead of him), but this team has holes all over, so cutting EJM, AND then signing 2 more QB's would be foolish. -

Is Matt Cassel available? -
I like Tyrod, and I think they can win with him. I really only stepped in to mention that Osweiler didn't get first team reps, and was thrown in mid-season, because it's true, but I didn't see any mention of it. I think Tyrod would have done as well or better than Osweiler, if he were in Denver last season.
-
I want them to select an OT, but I'm not sure there will be value at 19. I agree, it's probably just who Roman is...and that's another reason why I'm not very excited for this season. I mean, even when it was Jauron and Losman, I got my hopes up for a wild card. This season I expect them to shuffle the deck, and end up in the same place (7-9, 8-8, 9-7).
-
So how would you improve the offense, or is it all set?
-
Really? He is worth keeping, but I think they could function without him. As has been noted before, whenever teams commit to shutting down Watkins, the passing game dies. None of the other receivers have been able to take advantage of the skewed coverages (except maybe Harvin). If they can pick a guy out of a hat that can do that fine, but I'm skeptical that they will be lucky enough to grab one late in the draft. I was hoping they might find a FA. I think Tyrod should be given as much help as possible. Of course, the mess of the defense that Ryan has created will need fixing, and will dominate the draft. Watching a team rebuild is fascinating, I could do it for 20 years.
-
Fair enough. I really want them to get another WR, but I don't believe Treadwell is worthy of the 19th pick (for this Bills team). I guess I would be happier with an OT, but I'm not sure they would get value there either. And it's probably all moot, because I completely expect them to draft defense, with the possible surprise of a QB.
-
That's why they need a different #2. And if, as someone else mentioned, Tyrod was targeting Harvin often (when he made it on to the field), perhaps they should look for a guy with similar skill set to Harvin?
-
I guess he's not the right #2 then, huh? Some guys will better suit Tyrod's strength's than other's.
-
Yeah, and I have to think Tyrod would look even better with a better 2nd option to Watkins. It's hard to tell what the defense can be. Is Ryan going to transform it with new guys?....Will it be more of the same, but with different players?....Does Ryan suck, and will only have a good defense if it's loaded with exceptional players (which will take a few seasons to accrue)? The offense is ahead of the defense, and I would prefer to develop the offense, and give Tyrod more to work with. Of course, that won't be what happens, because Ryan's career depends on his defense being the strength of the team.
