He has a good instincts, and is willing to follow them. It bites him occasionally, and probably led to a lower %, but I think he can win anyway (and he has). He pressures the defenders with his aggressiveness, and I love that.
-
Especially to draft a D-lineman, when Wrex doesn't seem to feature attacking lineman in his defense.
-
Good, no more "Percy Talk". ByeBye.

yep. You are getting me pumped up about Cook! It's not like every draft I put together mocks, or champion a bunch of players. I didn't even investigate Andrew Luck, because I knew the Bills wouldn't be able to get him. Cook just stands out to me, and the Bills might actually have a shot at selecting him. After all these years of not even having a chance to select a really good prospect (either because there wasn't one available, or not having a high pick), it will really burn me to miss out on someone I think could be "the guy".

Fair enough. Have you watched the highlights, and even better, the individual game breakdowns? Since no one has asked, the stats I listed above are Joe Montana's college stats. I looked at a fair amount of HoF QB's, and very good QB's, and a fair number of them improved upon their college %. Also, there were more than a few that were under 60% in college (and what is so magical about "60%"? Does 59.9% = loser? I think the guys that have great careers are the guys that are "good at getting better". And I think Cook is gonna get better, and is already pretty slick. Of course, I doubt the Bills will draft him, but I expect it to be one of those regrets that have plagued Bills fans.

I think La Canfora is right, here. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/25550469/connor-cook-the-qb-no-one-is-talking-about-wont-last-long-in-nfl-draft

Nope, just better. -
Hmmm... I guess it depends on how you wanna shuffle the cards. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/04/04/draft-pff-scouting-report-connor-cook/ Connor Cook: "Accuracy percentage on deep (20+ yard) passes was best in the draft class at 59.4 percent" "Was excellent on third down. Overall grade of +16.8 tied for best in the class" (just throwing that in for fun-HoF) "Outstanding in the 21-30 yard range. His +15.4 grade led the class" As an extra treat, here are the college stats of a proven winner, I would love to see a guess of who it is.... G Cmp Att Pct Yds Y/A AY/A TD Int Rate 7 28 66 42.4 507 7.7 3.4 4 8 102.7 9 99 189 52.4 1604 8.5 7.7 11 8 134.4 11 141 260 54.2 2010 7.7 6.9 10 9 124.9

Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft

"Such a Rex Ryan pick"...it bothers me that people perceive of Wrex this way....especially because I agree. Thankfully I doubt Whaley will select him. -
I have also heard that he didn't throw screen passes very often, which pad comp.% for many QB's. He's no Captain Checkdown. I'd sooner try to rein in a guy from going downfield, than try to get a checkdown specialist to throw downfield. Everyone has their opinion, my opinion is that if the Bills pass on him, they will regret it, and that he is going to be a very good NFL QB.
-
He won't last beyond the 2nd round. Like I said, I know the common criticisms of Cook, but believe he will overcome them. I'm just going on record here, to say "I believe in this guy". We shall see how it turns out.

My comments concerning his achievements related to the worries about his leadership. I KNOW that there are many QB's with similar achievements, but none come to mind that were considered poor leaders. That's why I brought up George, and Cutler. I thought the connection I was making was obvious, but sometimes you have to bang people over the head here. "34-5....a Rose Bowl.... a Cotton Bowl... 2 Big 10 Championships" and then directly to ...team captain or not, the team responded to him just fine. See it now? See what I did there? I connected his achievements DIRECTLY to his ability to lead a team successfully, despite not being named a captain. I know the common criticisms of Cook, but obviously I think he will overcome them. We shall see. But as far as when he is drafted, we will know soon enough....see you then!

Great, I didn't criticize Tyrod, and no one was claiming he wasn't a good leader, or claiming he was like Cutler or George, when he came out of college. So what are you on about? Some kind of tangent...

Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft

Fair enough criticism, but none of those guys had the winning record that Cook had. I won't say W/L is "all that counts" or some such nonsense, but in this case, I think it indicates that he can get it done. And if you wanna bring up Tebow, Tebow doesn't have anywhere near the arm Cook has. -
34-5....a Rose Bowl.... a Cotton Bowl... 2 Big 10 Championships...team captain or not, the team responded to him just fine. He is no Jeff George (who transfered in college, and didn't have much of a college career), or Jay Cutler (11-35)...it's not fair to compare him to those kind of guys.

I dread seeing Cook with the Patriots, but he will never last that long. If he goes to the Giants, the Cards, the Saints, the Broncos, maybe the Chiefs, strong organizations that will need a new QB soon, he will be all set. I just don't see Roman wanting him badly enough to get him selected soon enough. He will be gone by the Bills 2nd pick, so they'd need to use the 1st on him.

Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft

Nope. Stuff like that gets blown out of proportion all the time these days, with every aspect being over-scrutinized. I don't believe that it's necessary for everyone to like you, to be a successful QB, either. Jim Kelly rubbed some teammates wrong. In some instances, it can be an asset (if the player can excel), because you aren't expected to be "friends", and are free to exercise your authority (recall Spiller's comments about EJM). I doubt Peyton Manning was beloved by all his teammates, and appeared to be considered (and consider himself) part of "management", rather than "one of the workers". Some guys would get excited if Peyton remembered their name, or even spoke to them. Dan Marino sure seemed separate from the team. Tom Brady... -
I think Wentz is good, but he isn't smooth. And he hasn't played top competition.
-
Yeah, the Archie Griffin thing was nothing. ZFG? Zero %$*&s Given. I could see Roman using Cook like Rothlisberger. I think Roman is excellent at squeezing the most out of mediocre QB's, by emphasizing the ground game, and passing off of that. But I don't think he is the right guy for a "superstar QB". He would waste guys like Rodgers, or Manning. I get the feeling that Roman is more interested in out-foxing the opposition with his plays, than letting the talent do their thing. Watching Carson Wentz, and Paxton Lynch... those guys are dorks, their bodies all herky-jerky. Cook and Goff have that smoothness that you see from the greats. It's more than "style points", it indicates an underlying confidence, and athleticism.
-
Yes, I'm encouraged by that. I'm using "the eyeball test", and I see a pro QB. A guy who gets the ball out quick, with the confidence to thread the needle, and who carries the team on his back. I see decisiveness ("I know what I'm doing"), seemingly the rarest attribute in college prospects (and pro's for that matter) I'm sold.
-
Thank you. Last year, most here would have been ecstatic to have a chance to draft this guy. With good coaching, he is gonna tear it up. He has been playing in a pro-style offense too. Throws with all the confidence of Dan Marino, ZFG! I love that, but a guy like Roman, who seems to prefer a game manager with a ground game, wouldn't know what to do with a guy like Cook. I think Roman is good at getting the most out of a mediocre talent, but would hold back a serious talent like Rodgers, Manning, etc. I hate this coaching staff.
-
Just select Connor Cook, and be done with it. I'm gonna proclaim here and now, that Cook will be a star in the NFL. I really hope the Bills select him. He's the guy. But I bet Greg Roman wouldn't like him, he is too aggressive. Too bad. With the right coach, he would tear up the league. I hope the Patriots don't select him, or we're screwed. He reminds me of Marino.

Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft
Prickly Pete replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still like Connor Cook as the best QB prospect in this draft, and a year ago he was the popular pick. He is a D-bag, but then so was Jim Kelly. I would be happy if the Bills selected him at any point in the draft (1-7). He makes mistakes, but he looks more like a pro when he throws the ball than any other prospect in this draft, that I have seen.
