That's just stupid logic. So, if Bates really is our 3rd (we're assuming the 2 starts are interchangeable & they're the best guards) best option, keeping him on the bnech for the scenario of Bates getting hurt THEN Morse gets hurt? Geez, by that logic, shouldn't we keep Allen safe, cuz if he gets hurt, then Trubisky gets hurt that leaves us w/ only Davis Webb?

QBR is worthless; Tua higher than Allen
eSJayDee replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
Actually, in this game it was Allen that was throwing the short s*** passes & Tua that was throwing down the field (at least somewhat). Allen only had 1 20 yd completion whereas Tua had like 3 (including the 40 yder). I'll concede by the eyeball test, no way could you say Tua had a better game than Allen. But, possibly based on some sort of "yds completed down the field metric" (that ignores TD passes & INTS ) I could see how you would rate Tua's performance superior. -
The “math” of going for 2 makes no sense
eSJayDee replied to Miyagi-Do Karate's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's all about probability & utility. Given equal utility (which is debatable), if you think you're gonna score 2 > 50% of the time, you go for it (every time). (Even if you make 100% of your kicks, your expected points are only 1.0). In the Dolphins case, they needed more than 14 pts more than us in order to win. Once they score the TD, if they make the 2pts, now they only need 7 more. If they miss, they still need a TD & another score (a 2 pt PAT ties it & a FG wins). So in this case, given relatively equal "payouts", the utility gained by going for 2 makes it the prudent move, by not only giving you a better chance to win (assuming successful), but also facilitates better strategy down the road. ( I probably didn't explain the reasoning well - I was a math major, not English ) -
Somethings GOT to be done a the interior o line
eSJayDee replied to TheBeaneBandit's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think one reason is that they're not happy w/ their "best 5" & used Brown's absence as an opportunity to try to improve. Brown is presumably among the top 5. (Not that it's relevant to the discussion, but so is Williams.) It's the guard's play that is primarily lacking. So, since Mongo isn't doing well enough on the left, have him try right. Ford wasn't cutting it, so leave him on the bench & try Botteger(sp?). -

I found that on their website & sent them a presumably similar sentiment. Sent it to "Sports" as well. It's been a few hrs & haven't heard back. -

re: Albany being stuck w/ the Jest. CBS6 seems to be void of info on this (website & Facebook). Does anyone know who to contact to confirm & perhaps more importantly, vioce a preference for the Bills to hopefully sway them to change? TIA. re: Albany being stuck w/ the Jest. Should we be thanking JJ Watt for not choosing Buffalo?

For the extra $10m in cap hit or whatever? For someone that's only gonna play ~60% of the snaps. Emphatic NO. -
What did their defense do, let's see... Well, in the 3rd quarter, they were effective in stopping us. As for the 4th, I think their strategy was "get so far behind & out of the game, that they stop trying to score". I think they managed to accomplish that quite well. As for the 1st half, seems like their strategy was "don't let them hit those intermediate 10-20 yd passes", which they did a reasonable job of as well. How, let guys open 30-50 yds down the field. We averaged over 30 yds a complete! And it wasn't skewed by a single long play. I'll add statistically our offense was "hindered" by the fact that KC had the ball so long. Our defense didn't totally stymy them (KC's offense is too good for that), but rather VERY effectively slowed them down so they couldn't keep up w/ our offensive production.

Interesting stat - we had 9 Pass Defensed according to NFL.com. Houston only had a total of 10 incomplete/Ints! -
They might have to pay more for him so they can have more flexibility. Seems to me you're much more likely to lose elite running ability due to injury or just natural deterioration than elite arm talent. W/o his exceptional arm, JA still has the ability to be a good QB. How good would LJ be if he wasn't much of a runner? Can you say $50m+ in dead cap space?

9/19//21 Week 2 Bills @ Miami Postgame Thread
eSJayDee replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Either you or what you're quoting transposed those #s. I assume he played 61 defensive snaps, or 82%, same as Poyer. They were pulled for the last series or 2, which IMO is a good thing. -

Bojo to Rams (update - traded to Packers)

I seem to recall hearing that one of the reasons Bojo didn't like it here was cuz of it being difficult to kick here due to the weather. Welcome to Green Bay. -
I've waded through 5 pages before I saw someone alluding to "taking one for the team". Players sacrifice/risk their long-term health for the short term benefit for the team. (Ronnie Lott says "Hi"). Beasley played w/ a broken leg last yr! Further, from what I understand, most of these players take copious amounts of pain killers, anti-inflammatories, etc yet they're reluctant to have a vaccine that like literally BILLIONS are now getting? Seems to me, you're not being a good teammate if you're endangering your teams chance of success by not getting vaccinated.

Considering the depth & strength we have at other positions (as well as planning for next yr) & that we likely won't be a RB/running-centric offense, I see us not carrying too many RBs on the roster. Considering that they're now apparently have Gilliam to be use in an "emergency" situation, I can see it quite possible that we only carry 3 RBs. Singletary (who looks far better than last yr), Moss, & ...? Granted Brieda looks fast, but does he really offer that much else? I think it depends how much he'll contribute on STs.

1st, as a philanthropist, I think Ralph was worthy of acclaim & reverence. As an owner, let's just say he was a good business man. I'd further like to point out, that when the AFL was forming, the 1950 census had Buffalo as like the 11th largest city in the country. So, short of predicting New Yorks general economic & population decline, of unoccupied choices, at the time, it seemed like a prudent choice.

COVID-19 salary cap hurt Bills more than most
eSJayDee replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In some ways, I think it has helped us though. 1) Beane is very "fiscally responsible" w/ how he structures contracts, so we're not often left w/ large amounts of dead cap space or players we can't afford to cut. 2) We were able to retain almost all of our own FAs, I think in large part cuz there wasn't large amounts of $ elsewhere to attract them. Were it not for that, I think a few of our retained players may well have cost $1m or more each per yr to keep. -
