Accessories? Where's the option for 'shovels and rakes and implements of destruction'?
-
Since most people are pointing out that it doesn't pay for our military to use them, I'll add to the discussion that it probably doesn't pay to 'salvage' them. Yes, they're worth something, but presumably not worth the expense (& undertaking the apparent underlying risk) for transporting them.

Facinating topic. I don't know if this is a definition per se, but personally, I'd say that a sport is a competition where one competitors production has an effect on his opponent(s). I do not consider golf a sport, although I actively participate. I recognize the incredible skill exhibited by top players (actually, you could argue that my comprehension only reaches to about the level of a scratch man or LPGA player; PGA touring pros are so much above that.) Whether I play w/ Tiger, some hack or someone of equivalent talents as myself, barring certain pychological impacts (which can't be determined), my performace is the same. I don't know if I would classify Nascar as a sport as I'm not sufficiently familiar w/ it. It definitely is a competition AND competitors have an influence on how others do. However, how much one competitors performance is based on equipment (car) and how much their innate talent, I have no way of judging. (Give Tiger a set of hickory sticks & he'll still whip my butt. Put this Danika babe in a '72 Pinto, let me drive her car & w/ a bit of practice, I'd bet I could beat her.) Football, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, all true forms of sport. Baseball sort of gets an asterick as it's mostly Pitcher vs batter, w/ the pitcher having some 'helpers'. Horse racing is definitely sport for the horses; I don't really think it is for the jockeys, but again, not being that familiar w/ it, I don't know how much the results are dependent on equipment (horse) or skill/athletic prowess (jockey).

What's the best remake you've ever heard/seen
eSJayDee replied to Fake-Fat Sunny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Movies, off the top of my head, I'll go w/ Magnificant Seven/Seven Samurai. As for music, I think I feel somewhat differently than you. To me, music is all about the interpretation of the song. Different versions/interpretations can be SUBSTANTIALLY different (case in point, All Along the Watchtower). That's what makes a song good or bad (IMHO). There's plenty of room for many versions of the same song. As for movies, it's mostly story. Once the stories been told, it basically gets tired. That said, the 2 songs that come to mind are Jamaican (sp?) Farewell Jimmy Buffet, & Landslide by Dixie Chicks (They're vocals are inferior to Stevie Nicks, but the background instrumention adds to the song.). -
If the Bob Johnson you refer to is RJ's father, all indications I'm aware of is that he did a fine job of parenting. Raised a 'fine young man'. As for a great fotball player ... Also, I think there's a few indications that Archie's offspring might not qualify for citizens of the year.

quick question about homeowner's insurance
eSJayDee replied to geggytah's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Costs vary greatly, by company & of course your location. Assuming 'standard coverage', i.e. about the same value for your contents as well and not mosts 'acts of God', I'd guess about $400/yr. -
While I'm saying one for Fergy . . .
eSJayDee replied to Ennjay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ironically, I think Fergy ended up playing longer in the league than any of those guys, in fact possibly more than all of them combined! -
At some time, Kildrive referred to TRavis Henry by the wrong name, I was guessing it was Travis Hunter. What did he call him? TIA p.s. I was unable to find this w/ a cursory googling.

What Do You Shoot? How Long Have You Played?
eSJayDee replied to PTS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I averaged 84.2 last year on a fairly tough course (129/72.1), which probably equates to a 7 or 8 handicap. I played a lot last year (~4 rounds/week) but don't anticipate playing very much this year. I started playing in my early teens (my 1st round was a 155), basically gave the game up through my 20s & picked it up back again. -
bills starters and where they were drafted
eSJayDee replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the #s. I realize this is a relatively small sampling, but it's basically what you'd expect I think. The reason UDFAs are so well represented is that there are so many more of them. A team typically brings to camp about 4 'low' round draft choices and perhaps 20 UDFAs. Considering the level of talent is so close (think about how often it takes a few stops for a player to 'get it'). that certainly seems reasonable. In a somewhat different vein, each draft class has a small # of athletes that are vastly superior to the others. MOST of them make it & continue to flourish in the NFL. 2nd rounders (& probably late 1st rounders) fall somewhere in between. They've done something to make them stand out, but not in a sterling fashion. It'd be interested to see a further breakdown that is somewhat weighted for how much a particular level of draft choice contributes. -
I don't know what the demands are like coaching college, particularly Div II, but in the NFL, I get the impression that 80-100 hour work weeks are about norm. When would he have time for any other endeavor? Then again being 5-27, maybe he was only putting in 40, which left him plenty of time for 'more important' things.

I've recently seen synthetic mulch available at Lowe's &/or Home of Pot. (I haven't actually seen the stuff, just the ads for it.) I don't know if it's a new product or not & was wondering if anyone was familiar &/or had any experiences w/ it. It's supposed to be color fast & I don't like that after a few months my previously nice red mulch becomes a dingey yuck color. For that matter, whattaya think about those weed-screens? Are the worth the effort. It certainly would be nice if I spent less time weeding flower beds. TIA

Wasn't there an episode on South Park where a bunch of cows/cattle committed suicide in this fashion?

Fascinating read. I seem to recall that OJs fastest 40 was like 4.43. If you doubt how fast he was, get an old Guinness book of World Records, where they still measure track events in yards & check out who ran the 3rd leg of the 4x100 yd relay. I'll give you a hint, he was at USC in '67 or '68 and his 1st name was Orethal.

Actually, yes. If you're attentive to your dog(s), (which people ostracizing them to the backyard probably aren't), you will learn that they have distinctive barks for different occasions. I'd say my dog (Great Dane) has about 6 distinctive barks which I can recognize. (Who's trained whom, huh?) Much like people use the F-word to have several meanings based on inflection.

Atleast Now I know Mike Williams is back in town
eSJayDee replied to zevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't the 1st 'voluntary' Organized Team Activity typically scheduled for just b4 the draft? If so, this might be why he, along w/ most of the rest of the roster, is in town. If this is the case, anything other than his presence would be news. -
It's his job to assess the situation and dispatch personnel as appropriate. It is the responding officers responsiblity to determine whether or not the children should be shot. I think a better response would have been, "I've put you in the queue for officer reponse; they should be there shortly. I will also contact Child Protective Services and they will likely be contacting you in the morning"

$106 BILLION???? I don't know how many people live in this State, but that's gotta amount to somewhere between $6000 & $7000 per HEAD. That's like $20k for the average family. I don't know how this relates to other states (I sure it's higher though), but that's just rediculous.

I thought that comment rather odd. When the guy scores his 1st NFL TD, he hands the ball to his FB? I didn't hear the context, but I almost wonder if he was being facetious.

In case some of you missd this shot.
eSJayDee replied to Mile High's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Having it drop is luck. Getting it close is where the skill is involved. Unfortunately, you can't truly appreciate how much skill until you've seen the situation (& possibly even tried the shot) yourself. -
Best Buy has man arrested for paying with $2 bills
eSJayDee replied to Fezmid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Curious, I found a story on 'WorldNewsNet' or someplace similar (Dateline 7-apr, IIRC) & they sited the Baltimore Sun for the story. I couldn't find any mention of it on the Baltimore Sun site. -
He got a 14 on the 16th, a par 3. Had he managed to quadruple bogey it, he woulda broke 100! Depending on how tough the course is playing, it wouldn't (oops, fixed that) surprise me if I failed to break 100. (On my normal course, I shoot in the 70s more often than in the 90s.)

33% of people are sick b-stards...
eSJayDee replied to TheManTheMythTheLegend's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I seem to recall reading about a study done a while ago, that indicated that the amount of 'genetic damage' caused by this form of inbreeding is actually quite negligible. So from a dueling banjos standpoint, there really isn't anything to recommend prohibiting it. For that matter, it doesn't get into the breeding issue, just marriage. Perhaps yet another reason our legal concept of marriage is antiquated. I personally think that the gov't should not dictate any 'social' implications of a union such as this. -
Was you inability to sit caused by the punishment or the fact you were still successful in sneaking out ?
