  1. I agree with your take. I think maybe its kind of like an insurance policy...if ya will. I do hope somehow we are able to lock up Byrd. The kid is a good player.
  2. The guys on the network said talks with Byrd have gotten nowhere and these two safety picks should add stability to the position....FWIW. jb
  3. Frankly I'm kind of shocked no one took Ryan...or Barkley for that matter. I have to wonder in Ryan's case, the fact that his college coach passed him by has been interpreted an an indictment from other teams' scouting departments. I would think Ryan...and Barkley would be decent value picks for someone today. I was all over EJ, and glad we took a shot on him. The fact that we didnt have to take him at #8...even better. jb
  4. Not to mention the options they'll have hitting these receivers with short routes...in space and give them the ability to make plays. We've gone from gaping hole at receiver to stacked in a weekend. Now...if our TE can stay healthy we are going to have a passing game that defenses will have to respect. I'm all giddy with this draft so far !!! jb
  5. Wow. Nothing like timing ey? Hopefully it all works out for this kid. jb
  6. I haven't checked the round 2 draft order, but if you guys are wanting Geno I'd be concerned about Philly if they're picking before you. I just have a feeling Philly is gonna pick Geno. On the other hand, even if they do there will still be some good options. Heck, the Jets might even take Ryan Nassib if indeed they are looking for a QB this year. jb
  7. I guess I just dont see that happening. Too many holes to fill to double up on QB IMO. Although, it wouldn't bother me at all to see them take a flyer in round 7...on someone like Dysert....if by some act of God he (or someone projected higher) were still on the board. If I had to guess I'd say WR and/or TE with our two 2nd rounders. Just a guess though. jb
  8. The problem is there is such a long period between the end of the season and the draft. Naturally the media, ratings whores that they are just keep stirring up the controversy. Guys moving up the charts, guys moving down the charts...blah..blah..blah. I almost wish the draft were the week after the super bowl. Cancel that boring combine too! Just git r done already ! These talking heads IMO are what causes folks to have a change of heart on a player. Every player that enters this draft is the same player he was when he played his last college game..PERIOD. I honestly haven't wavered a lot since my initial draft thoughts...... For the reason stated above. I've watched these guys be wrong MANY times over the years with their player evaluations. I'll leave it to the front office to get it hopefully mostly right this year. Its all I can do. I can analyze it to death and it wont change anything. And lastly.....I'll be glad when the draft is over !! LOL ! Go Bills !! jb
  9. Thanks Bro !! Definitely we need this guy. I cannot wait to see our new look defense this year. Totally psyched Pettine is at the helm. Based on his aggressive style of D, and his track record, I'm bullish on our defense. If he could get this D in the top 3rd (I know ...thats a stretch) I say we win 9-10 games this year. Its possible. We have talent on this defense. jb
  10. Where in Scottsville is the Bison Farm, 3rd and 12 ? I'd like to take a little motorcycle ride down there and see if I can a few shots of those guys. Thanks ! ps....I'm hoping beyond hope they get a deal done with Karlos. Man, that'd be fabulous. jb
  11. I guess I didn't come away with that. He was being very tight lipped on draft strategy as he should be. Saying once again "we are in the information gathering business, not sharing". What I came away with was a no-nonsense demeanor. Frankly I thought he made kind of an ass out of that dweeb that was asking the questions. Or maybe, the reporter did a good job of that on his own. Bottom line, from a strategy/ draft perspective you didn't miss anything. It was nice to see him on the network though. jb
  12. ....and you may well be correct in that assessment. Frankly I am totally confused on who we should take at QB to be quite honest. I guess I look at it this way. I would rather have a kid that has leadership skills, and the CPU speed to read and react to defensive schemes than a kid who can throw it out of the stadium and not adequately read the defensive schemes FAST. It almost seems like a crap-shoot this year at the QB position. I just hope Marrone scores on his assessment. How cool would it be to have a rookie QB shock us all this year.....or maybe next. Its hard to know. I have no choice but to hope the powers to be get it right on draft day. Lets hope so ey ? EDIT: Of course we are going to need to upgrade the talent for our future signal caller...Be it Kolb or whomever. The backfield is quite happy. TE...not sure. WR......the signal caller is gonna need some help here I'm thinking. Rock on. jb
  13. Deep balls, while pretty on television are not very important. They are probably 10% tops of an offense. The kid has a strong enough arm to keep a defense honest. Thats all that really matters. Arm strength is over-rated. Way over-rated. Any of these QB's have a strong enough arm to keep a defense honest, especially with accuracy....which Barkley is quite accurate up to 35 yards and even beyond. So is Kevin Kolb. I'm not worried at all about QB. We'll be fine. I am however worried about the WR and TE positions. Sumptin gotta happen there. Defensively....we're good. We got Pettine. We'll be in the 30%+ percentile. Fellas we are going to be a good football team this year. jb
  14. .........which is nothing new. It happens on a daily basis. If Polian is right....let the board implode all it wants. I'm old and I want to see this team win a super bowl before I'm bench pressin daisys. jb
  15. Thats got to be the worse mock draft I've ever seen ! LOL !! (Just trying to "fit in" with TBD with that statement). Your draft would work just fine for me, but I don't see any linebackers listed. And...I'm kind of thinkin we could maybe use one. Thanx, jb
  16. I was looking for our record against teams coming off the bye. No luck. Also curious how this subject compares with other teams' schedules. Too lazy to check that I guess. But....what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. New England week 1. PERFECT ! Play the best right out of the chute. Play 6 teams coming off their bye. PERFECT. We can brag hard about our 9-7 record this year....given we are against some tough and unfair odds. I dont care if opponents have a month to prepare, or who they are, or what their record is. There's a new sherrif in town. Bring em on !! EDIT: Triple Threat....you had to go and beat me to the punch with that question didnt ya ? LOL ! jb
  17. Same problem. On my end, if I do a "reload page" I can watch a video of my choice there. I have to do a "reload page" after each video, otherwise It will not play. Not sure it will help you, but maybe you'll get lucky. Give it a shot. In fact ..I have to 1st select the one I want to watch..THEN hit "reload page". jb
  18. Absolutely agree. On all counts. On the local news tonight Freddie was commenting on the fast pace of the mini camp. He went on to say, not just on the field but in the film room as well. Marrone then commented that the game is played so fast that you've got to practice at that pace. Game day becomes a smoother transition when you practice fast, he said. I am gulping the Kulaid by the gallon. Why not ? I wont say playoffs but I definitely anticipate a much improved look to the Bills this year. If we simply look improved on both sides of the football and set the table for a playoff run starting in 2014 I'll be happy as a lark. Hope I'm wrong....and we make a wildcard this year right here ! LOL ! jb
  19. Thanks. Positive comments more than welcome here. I could read those all day !! jb
  20. This may have posted elsewhere and I missed it. An article on the Bills wanting to sign Jarius to a long term deal. "by giving Byrd the franchise tag, the Bills essentially gave the safety a one-year contract offer worth $6.9 million. Byrd does not have to accept the offer and is free to negotiate with other teams. The Bills have the right to match any offer Byrd receives or get two first-round picks in return as compensation from any team that signs Byrd." For the full article, go here: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9179659/buffalo-bills-hope-sign-jairus-byrd-long-term-deal
  21. Do you think that maybe...just maybe ....they got lucky with the Russel Wilson Pick? Giving Carrol that much credit on a very lucky pick....that smarter folks than him passed on is misguided IMHO. Seattle will not win a super bowl any time soon. Reason.....bad coach. Russell will have a worse year this year than last year. I love the kid but defenses will figure him out...keep him in the pocket....and his height will become an issue as he is kept in the pocket. He will regress in 2013. Edit: If Carrol knew Russel was that good he would have taken him in the 2nd...or maybe even the 1st. He took Russel to push Matt Flynn. He got lucky and Russel won the job in pre-season. He's not a good coach. He will never win a super bowl. Regardless of how much he spends. If he was a good coach he wouldnt have been fired as many times as he has. He got lucky on that QB pick. If I am wrong I will publicly eat crow...right here. jb
  22. Good stuff. The challenge becomes when to pull the trigger. And....How much OBD is willing to gamble. I am of the opinion #8 is too high for Ryan. I am also of the opinion that this is a good deep draft at a lot of positions we need, with the exception of the QB position. But I do think there may be a few pretty good QB's in this draft. The more I think about it, trading down might be a darn good idea.... if the opportunity presents itself. In this case,if the projection still shows Ryan, EJ etc still available at whatever pick we'd trade down to we might be able to fill more holes than if we dont trade down. And...still get a QB that may pan out. This trade down scenario would not surprise me. Almost looks like Doug is trying to fill as many holes as possible with a limited budget..... so far. I like it. Maybe he'll do the same thing in his draft strategy ? Should be an interesting draft. And...call me silly cuz I'm gulping down the Kul-aid ! !! If nothing else....BEAT THE PATRIOTS !! jb
  23. So maybe H&R Block has an opportunity here? Represent players ? As an agent? I'm guessing the tax treatment on ANY NFL player has ZERO impact on their decision of where to sign.
  24. Welcome, man. I'd be real happy if it fell this way. I agree with Jboy though, I'm pretty sure EJ will be gone by then. It "might" work better switching your #2 and #3 picks ? Then, you might still have a shot at EJ. If we got EJ in the third I'd be dancin in the streets !!
  25. Speed, while nice is not a requirement of an effective QB. The kid has a live arm. He's an accurate passer and can make all the throws. I hate Washington. But I really like this kid. His worse enemy is his coach. The style Shanahan has him playing is going to get RG killed. After watching that game against Seattle I lost what little respect I ever had for Shanahan. That game, having that kid play with a broken leg was an outrage. He had a capable back-up in Cousins on the bench as well. A mans health is way more important than winning or losing a football game. I'd fire Shanahan for putting that kids life at stake like he did. I couldn't even watch it. RG will need to change his game, but I believe he'll be a great QB for many years.....if he can revert to a throw first run second guy. I hope he stays healthy. He's great for the fans, and great for the game of football regardless of whether you like Washington or not.
