  1. the net loss includes quality, not just numbers. Levitre counts way more than Lawson because of his salary and potential post-season honors. but if we don't lose more than we sign it won't matter. who is the 2nd we signed? right now we could get a 4th or so for Levitre, as Lawson would cancel out Rhinehart. we need more guys like Thigpen of C-mac to sign to cancel out any crappy low-level signing we make to keep that Levitre pick.
  2. interesting... i knew players a team cuts and then sign with another team did not count. but i thought signed players would count against no matter how they got to unrestricted free agency. cool... well in that case we stand a chance of getting a 4th or 5th rounder if we don't sign anyone else. so that said, will the next signing be worth losing a pick for? i hate when they sign complete scrubs that probably cost us a pick, but Buddy tosses 7th rounders in the garbage so maybe it doesn't matter.
  3. unfortunately we probably won't get much... maybe a 7th. it's almost all canceled out by Lawson and Kolb and especially if they sign someone else too. we can always hope someone signs Spencer Johnson or Tyler Thigpen to a big deal i suppose.
  4. wow, in Snyder? for some reason i always thought Donahoe lived in Clarence... but i guess this makes more sense.
  5. not with that 40 time. a tenth doesn't matter... neither does two tenths... but a 4.92? that is sllloooooowwww... and people have been knocked out of the first round before for such times.
  6. probably a 2nd... except i think the Saints are 15 and don't have a 2nd(?). maybe a 3rd and a 4th would do it. that said, not all that many will want to trade up... but someone will, esp. if we're willing to take less than going rate.
  7. yeah, i would love this, but i don't think Jordan is there either. if so, he's probably my pick and the Bills. you might have to switch Wilson and Dobson's rounds.. .hard to say, but i have a feeling people may be keeping Dobson on the down-low but could go much higher than expected. while things have gotten quiet on Wilson, he could be there in the 3rd. so i think i'd go Dobson in 2nd and Wilson in 3rd.
  8. although fairly recent, i wonder how many took in Jarvis Jones' horrible 40 time and the Kevin Kolb signing. i bet many of them did not. i also tend to believe not resigning Levitre is an indictment of how they value LG. so i'd rule out all of tier 1. so looking at tier 2, and ruling out the OG again.. that leaves Patterson, Rhodes, and L.Johnson. i don't think Lane will be there, maybe Ansah instead, and while i disagree, i think Buddy likes his RT (ugh). so i think it will come down to Patterson, Rhodes, or Ansah as the Bills choices!
  9. Gruden's might not... but you can bet the team's own, similar, evals do. I'm definitely going to check these out for all the QB's. but i agree with the above... that when i saw Mariucci talk to Geno Smith it wasn't good, and without trying very hard i seemed to remember more than he did. Usually i'm totally lost, and usually those guys remember it pretty good except for maybe one thing. Regardless, despite all these visit Bills are doing with these QB's, i don't think we're taking one at 8. or maybe it is an indicator that it's so many.. most of these guys are not a consideration at 8.. i think they are determined to find out who the best one is when they get their 2nd or 3rd pick.
  10. this is mine exactly... maybe opposite order but i don't think he'll be there. i'd also consider Dion Jordan, who i don't think will be there either. those are the only 2 i see with value at #8. but if you trade back, maybe you should also make picks there... if so, tough to guess who will be there w/o knowing how far the tradeback is but... i'd consider Patterson or Eifert (if we trade down a little) or Pugh or Manuel (if a lot). the idea is to be great on the O-line, at OT in particular. so while Glenn was ok, still debatable he'd going to be great there, struggled a little with speed rushers, so if you can get another great OT who's even better on the left, why are people so afraid of moving Glenn? does it give hope to think we are actually capable of getting a gem in 2nd round? people seem so protective, i don't get why they care. let's get two good OT's, shouldn't matter to us which one plays where. if i had to guess what the Bills WILL do, it'd probably be this. we like won't have the players i want available, and we won't have the nutz to trade down... Patterson, or possibly Xavier Rhodes at CB (hey, these ARE the Bills).
  11. yep, gotta keep up on that Phillies news. also saw/heard this the other day, word for word, on nfl network.. they were asking him after the Nawrocki comments. if Geno is too risky for the first, Bray is way too risky for the 2nd. maybe in the 3rd or 4th. as i've stated, i don't think you bring in Kolb to a decent contract if you are drafting a guy at 8. drafting a guy at 8 these days means you start him. you may have cheap competition for the rookie, but you don't sign a 6 million per year FA to go against a top 10 pick. i think they wait on QB until at least later in the first round.
  12. i would say the exact opposite. i would be surprised if we don't go Offense, Offense, Offense... the Bills have starters at every position on D, and gaping holes on offense.... even leaving out the QB, we have no #2 WR or anyone that could even be considered one. they cannot go into a season with the thinnest WR corp in the league. they may not have a TE, or anyone that could remotely be considered a starter there... even if Chandler can play, he's coming off an ACL and is a FA after the season. we have no LG... not at all, no one who has played there anyway. that's 3 spots that are big black holes. the offense survived due to scheme, not talent, and they need bodies, starting bodies. on D, we have guys... heavy investment, and i think they need to see if scheme/coaching were the problem there. could use upgrades, but at the same time, we have starters everywhere.
  13. ehh.. i don't doubt strength if you say so. but just 6' even and a pedestrian vertical? i don't see how he fits that. at least Hopkins is 6'1" and has a 36" vertical. he'd be more on the radar than woods.
  14. definitely a project, but definitely buzz as well. i wish we could afford the 3rd rounder it would take to move up and get him at 25 or whatever, cuz i don't think he falls to 41. not with all the QB needy teams at 33-40.
  15. i don't think he's what we're looking for either. maybe. just thinking we are going bigger there based on Buddy's comments. 6'2" minimum... maybe 6'1" and can jump well.
  16. but Bell was only so-so... and LT is > OG. i still think it would look terrible to draft a G, and they must not think it's worth it. it would be like keeping Levitre, then trading him and the #8 pick for a slightly better G... which makes no sense with the holes we have. just can;t believe we'd use the #8 pick to just replace what we had and didn't value enough to sign. he was more expensive sure, but... that money difference is not worth the 8th pick. no way. can't see it.
  17. i think we are looking for a #1 actually. SJ is pretty good, but his numbers compare to a good #2, not a star #1. he gets to 1000 based on being by far the most targeted... while the best get 1400 yrads, and good #2's get 1000. based on buddy's comments we aren't going for an Austin, too small. Patterson is raw, needs to learn routes and track a deep ball... but at the same time he can do what Austin does and break a short crossing pattern for a TD, or can get jump balls or short stop routes.... and EVENTUALLY learn more complex patterns and deeper things. even though he has the potential to do more and isn't there, i think there ARE things he can do right now. i don't know if he's worth the 8, but he's probably the only one to consider there. if we don;t go with him, i think someone like Aaron Dobson in the 2nd or 3rd are where we'd look. big tall athletic guy with big catch radius and good speed too. Woods is ok, but limited... Swope, i watched and said to myself "fearless over the middle... probably will get concussed in the NFL playing like that". THEN i read he had a concussion history, lol... i'll pass.
  18. Pettine played with 3 safeties on field in the past, which means you need 4 on the roster. we only have 2 true safeties... Scott is considered a LB and Williams still a CB. maybe you move/use one as S. but it might be risky to have 2 of your safeties not used to playing there? plus your best and only proven starter unsigned beyond this year, and another never the starter before? i think they add one.
  19. pffftt... i said that like 4 days ago. but that was more b/c Bills always do something so unexpected with at least one of top 3 picks. we do need one, but Buddy said it was a deep draft for safeties... tending to think they'll wait until the 4th or so. but there i go applying logic to the Bills again.
  20. i never buy this notion you can;t find someone to trade with. i think it's much more that you can't find someone to give you want you want. ESPECIALLY now with the rookie wage scale. who wouldn't want their pick before the better players get filtered out? the Bills can trade down... it's just a matter of getting enough to make it worth it to them. maybe they want a team's 2nd to move down 5 spots and only offered a 3rd. as for who could be there, there will be good players there someone wants more than us. i'm not sure the value for the BILLS is there because of their 2 primary needs... QB and WR. none seem so great as to be worth the #8. but what about teams needing a 4-3 DE? could be great value there. or teams that value OG more than us? maybe a team loves a DB like Vaccarro or Rhodes but we don't want to risk losing our QB so aren't going to take a DB that high? i think there will be opportunities, or at least potential to trade down, based on OUR needs vs. other teams.
  21. i agree (with you, not Kiper). though i really want O-line help too. i certainly don't feel good about 4 line spots. i feel pretty good about 2 (though neither is dominant), okay about RG. there is no LG and i don't like Pears. point is, there is no one i love at 8 if the OT's are gone.
  22. article/blog post from atlanta paper before FA listed potential cap cuts. Clabo was considered very unlikely, at least by one writer: Tyson Clabo 2013 Cap Hit – $6.05 million Still Owed – $4.65 million Potential Savings – $1.4 million This one’s pretty much a non-starter from the beginning. While Clabo may not have been the best tackle in the NFL, letting him go just makes no financial sense. He was guaranteed $11.5 million and has only been paid $6.85 million of that so far. Just letting him go would create almost $5 million in dead money, while only saving barely over a million. If this a year from now it may be a different story, but now it makes no sense.
  23. he's probably better than Pears, so wouldn't mind a cut and sign if he came fairly cheap. might not be much more than Pears 2.1 million...
  24. i 2nd that. most social network and many sports links are blocked.
  25. still debatable. ONLY graham said he made a mistake, and i think he just didn't want to ruffle any feathers as the new guy. OBVIOUSLY, that ball would have been even more off target if he ran the shorter route... it would have been over his head and even MORE behind him than it was. he would have had no chance. Gailey only said he was to make a read there and he'd have to look at the film and he never said afterwards. Fitz didn't say for sure either. TJ threw himself under the bus on that, but look at the photo for it if not the replay. DB was extended and a foot off the ground. either Fitz threw to where TJ would be on the shorter route and over threw him and way way behind him, or threw to where TJ went and underthrew him and was still behind him. it was a bad threw either way. however, Fitz did not hold the ball too long... getting rid of it was a definite strength, a needed one, b/c he made the line look better than they were at pass-pro. stick a lot of QB's back there and they'd have been sacked 50 times. also funny was how Gilmore got called for some "ticky tack" PI calls... he was lucky he didn't get called for more. he mauled guys. overall though, it wasn't horrible for an outsider (if it was one). at least some stuff was right.
