Postgame thread (8/17/24) - Bills at Steelers
4merper4mer replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Might it be because the Bills offensive design emphasizes the run, schemes up the run very well and Is rudderless on designed passes beyond WR screens? After Dorsey left the Bills offense absolutely had some good games, most notably the curb stomping of Dallas. Scoring is the point so that’s good but you can’t be one dimensional. The on script success was all run. The Dallas game was like when the Dolphins beat the Pats with the Wildcat. Unexpected and productive but temporary. “Diggs disappeared” is the required mantra on this board but it is a false narrative unless you include the rest of on script passing game along with Diggs. Pass game production came primarily from Josh improv which is fun, but bad policy. This year it will get worse because 1. Our receivers aren’t great, we lost Our best and 2. Sooner or later the opposition will adapt to our run game. Brady is one of these pumped up geniuses a la Nathaniel Hackett that has already flopped but somehow maintained his credentials. The silver lining could be Brady’s ineptitude may force Josh to be not only a “best buddy” type leader but also a leader who questions authority and demands change. To date, he has not shown that ability but the time is drawing near. -

I was in total agreement with that. Then Wilson came out and Fields came in. Now, if I’m the Steelers, I’m getting a lawyer to check the fine print on the Kenny Pickett trade paperwork and taking the Eagles to court. Yikes. -

Joe Brady has good run schemes but is absolutely clueless with any semblance of a pass attack. Blame Trubisky all you want but it’s Brady. -

I like the RBs. That’s one spot where whoever we cut could get picked up by another team. -

Joe Brady is average to slightly above average with run schemes and unacceptably atrocious in the pass game. Allen improv will get us some spurts but our offense as a whole will be subpar and be way too one dimensional. Bad schemes with mediocre receiving talent ain’t cutting it in 2024. -
	Man that guy was super.

Will this mean our WR room quietly got better again?

Self centered pricks. Loathsome is the perfect description of them and the title of the thread. -

Actually it’s more math….on the giant pile….against the likelihood of intelligent communicative life. -
I like the Davis at 49ers pass. That was crazy.
 -
They did pick up Arozarena but they’re still lacking in hitting.
 -
Not you. Some our players are millennials and into their feelings.
 -
Well in that game we lost because he channeled Joe Pisarcik on a victory formation play then threw a game ending pick. That’s an outlier.
 -
Diggs saw things in Minn leading him to believe they wouldn’t win a championship. He was right. He still has a good relationship with Cousins, etc. Diggs saw things in Buffalo he perceived to be holding them back from a championship. Was he right again?
 -
Seattle is another interesting team. They REALLY need hitting and I think their bullpen is just ok, but their rotation? Whichever team has the second best rotation in MLB is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind Seattle. Kirby and Castillo are both legit #1’s. You can make a case that Gilbert and even Miller are 1’s. At worst they are 2’s. Woo is at worst a 3 but you could make a case he is a 2, They could stay in games in the playoffs against anyone.

I definitely agree that if we disappoint it isn’t just a matter of Diggs/no Diggs. But this is a Diggs thread so….. I think the homerism on the board prevents a fair look at the situation from multiple angles. Diggs may very well have worn out his welcome with Josh in particular but doesn’t that run both ways? Josh’s “gee I’m just a big friendly Golden Retriever” style might have worn thin on Diggs too. Doesn’t it work both ways? Shouldn’t that be on both of them? I 1000000% understand that the Bills should never give up Josh because there is too much talent and potential there. I think Josh wants to win and he gives it his all on the field, but he is not always prepared and when he does lose it doesn’t seem to bother him. Losing bothers Diggs. Josh needs to commit to winning, not just wish for it. Re-watch the Shakir clutch TD in the late 3rd against KC in the playoffs. Does Diggs’ reaction look like that if a bad teammate to you?
 -
Well a quick read of this thread and others run him down in a very harsh way. And the MOST anyone can point to is him being demanding of teammates. Boo hoo for the poor fragile kids he’s playing with. Spoiler alert: if those kids don’t get a thicker skin, this team will not progress. Taking away someone who is pushing them is a bold strategy Cotton. Let’s see how it works out for them.
 -
I get that he might hurt the feelings of millennials from time to time but perhaps we shouldn’t judge him show harshly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwGiew2sSwk

	What is UFR?
 -
I think it’s probably about right. The loss of Diggs, Brady needing to succeed, which seems unlikely, and Allen not just relying on sheer talent but showing he can be a leader and hard worker are factors working against the Bills. Also despite the re-work, Miller’s contract combined with the fact that he is worthless, really hurts. Working for them in terms of the odds are the fact that both the Jets and Dolphins are severely overrated every preseason and 2024 is no exception. I don’t have any confidence in the Jets having Rodgers stay healthy and/or perform well but Taylor is his backup so they may be ok. The rest of their roster is strong. +180 is probably about right.

Brady is already a proven failure. Josh can overcome some of that. It will put a lot of pressure on both Babich and Allen.
