1. I really like EM and want him to stay, albeit at a reduced cost. However, everybody on here keeps talking about how he took less money to stay in Buffalo. That is pure BS.Here is the list of the top WR deals over the last four years. See any bonuses HIGHER than EM, okay one. But his deal was done FOUR years ago. Look at either the first three years or total comp and EM is still one of the top five paid WRs, and his deal is four years old.

Like I said , God Bless EM and I wish him well if he is here or somewhere else, but stop with the suggestions he was loyal and stayed here with a hometown discount. My gut tells me if he hit the open market, we would have gotten him for less.

Derrick Mason — Five years, $20 million, $7 million SB (signed in February 2005)

    Chad Johnson — Five years, $25 million, $10.5 million-$12 million SB (Nov. 13, 2003)

Joe Horn — Six years, $42 million, $8 million in bonuses (May 2005)

Torry Holt — Seven years, $42 million, $12.5 million SB (July 18, 2003)

Muhsin Muhammad — Six years, $30 million, $10 million SB (February 2005)

Laveranues Coles — Five years, $35 million, $13 million SB (March 2003)

Javon Walker — Six years, $9.5 million, $3 million SB (July 23, 2002)

Isaac Bruce — Seven years, $42 million, $7 million SB (2000)

Eric Moulds — Six years, $40 million, $12.5 million SB (January 2001)

Darrell Jackson — Six years, $25 million, $8 million SB (March 8, 2004)

Marvin Harrison — Seven years, $67 million, $13 million bonuses (November 2004)

Terrell Owens — Seven years, $48 million, $8.5 million SB (March 2004)

Great post! Moulds stayed here because he received a kings ransom, not because his loyalty to the Bills blinded him.

Has he got the short end of the stick in terms of QB's, numerous coaching staff changes, bad teams,etc.. throughout his career? YES, but so have a lot of other players. That's the hand he was dealt. If he is now bitter as he nears the end of his career and wants to be a disruptive force in the locker room, get rid of him ASAP!

  2. Nobody knows for sure what is going on inside the locker room except for those in the organization, but I'm wondering whether MM is reacting to a select group of vets who are attempting to undermine his authority aka "inmates running the asylum". The combination of another losing season can wear on vets who are nearing the end of their careers and maybe MM did not nip it in the bud. Now it has reached the boiling point and is spilling over.

MM certainly isn't helping himself by making it as media circus, but that is what happens with a HC who does not have the experience dealing with situations like this.

  3. TD will remain as President of Football Operations and handle contract negotiations.  MM will be retained but there will be shake up among assistants.  Look for the departure of Tom Clements and the elevation of Sam Wyche to OC.  JG will remain as DC.

    522917

If that is the case TM will be nothing more than TD's puppet. The Bills need to make a clean break from TD.

  4. I don't want Clements gone. His salary demands will unfortunately end his career as a Bill. You say the problem with this team is not talent, I say what looks good on paper i.e. "big name" players, doesn't always translate to quality play on the field.

The reason we were so bad in GW's first season is because there was no money to sign anyone because of the salary cap mess. I don't believe that will be an issue this offseason.

If Moulds and Williams agree to paycuts without contract extensions, giving them "incentive money"(as you state) or moving money to the back end of the contracts, I am okay with that....but neither gets a nickel more just because they were so kind to help out the Bills!!! The cap figures for these two are unbelievable.

Trust me it will NOT be an upgrade!  Not even close.  So you actually want Clements, Vincent and Milloy gone?  Great secondary we'll have.  Be careful what you wish for---the problem with this team is not talent.  One game all year they were outclassed--San Diego.  The problem is attitude, coaching and folding down the stretch.  This team needs to learn how to win close games.  This season again is like last year--you look back and the Bills have blown three late 4th quarter leads (New England, Miami, Carolina).  That's why this is so maddening.  You get rid of all those players and then we are really bad---like GW 1st season bad when we lost because we had no talent.  At least we're closer with these guys.  If you can keep Moulds and even Williams by them taking pay cuts and then adding incentive money then do it.  There are no replacements on this roster anyway for the safeties and cap wise it is not bad to keep them.  Safeties get burned--look at a top 5 pick for the Redskins.  He has gotten burned plenty this year as has Roy Williams of the Cowboys.  Safeties will get burned at times--it happens.

    522908

  5. And replace them with who?  We have no replacements for them--that is an even bigger problem.  You think our secondary is vulnerable now?  How about with Coy Wire and who knows who else back there.

    522896

Did you read my post or just the title of the thread? I discussed the potential of Rashad Baker as a potential replacement for Vincent. Also, there is this thing every March called F/A where you let go over priced and over the hill players and replace them with younger players who you believe can do a better job.

Just because they are "name" players that everybody has heard of doesn't mean they are the answer to the problem..

  6. These two signings are perfect examples of what went wrong during the TD era. Both guys were signed on the downside of their careers to very good contracts. They were name players that looked good on paper, helped sell seats and were better than their predecessors(Wire & Reese/Prioleau). The only problem is...both guys have little or nothing left in the tank. Was Vincent even dressed Sunday?

Guys on the wrong side of 30 work well when plugged into an existing lineup that is very good. They are not the kind of guys who can come in and be difference makers in an otherwise ordinary lineup.

Unfortunately, the Bills need to address the OL & DL early and often in the draft and with not much in terms of backups, it's look to F/A or keep these two. Wire is never going to cut it as a starter and I'm not sure if Leonhard can overcome his size limitations to become a starter. Baker has shown some promise, but I doubt they will bench Vincent to give Baker a look before the end of the season.

It is never easy to cut loose name players, but Vincent and Milloy need to go along with...

    Adams(cut)

    Williams(cut)

    Teague(loss via F/A)

    Moulds(cut)

    Posey(cut)

    Shelton(cut)

    Clements(loss via F/A)

I know this is 9 starters from the current team, but we are not getting much bang for the buck from these guys except for Clements who will want a king's ransom this off season.

Get a new GM after the year, invest wisely in F/A and commite to rebuilding your OL & DL via the draft. I am not opposed to going after a younger RFA knowing that you have to give up draft picks in return. It will probably take two years to reload the team and I am hoping that MM can learn from his mistakes.

It's very difficult to say, because it's been way too long since the Bills have seen the playoffs and even longer since they won a playoff game, but...

It's time to tear it down and rebuild it. :D

  7. They kept running up the middle because the reports of Willis having "speed" have been over stated in my opinion. He is a young Eddie George, minus the heart.

    521198

I don't agree. He may not have the speed to break off 80 yard runs, but if he doesn't have the speed to turn the corner on a sweep or a pitch, he wouldn't be of much use to the Bills.

  8. Sorry, but the NFL is the only big-time sports league with a presence in WNY. Hockey and third tier college hoops just doesn't cut it I'm afraid. The NHL is still off the radar screen for most of the USA. Face it, football is what the American sports scene revolves around. I just can't get excited about a winning hockey team. Even if the Sabes had won the cup a few years back, not many would have noticed.  <_<  Remember Empire interviewing those Dallas residents on the street the afternoon of games? Many of them had NO IDEA what they were being asked about-didn't even KNOW their city had an NHL team! Football is just a better game anyway, and that's why people love it. Hockey just isn't as athletically impressive. So get pumped about your low rung sports if you wish, but the NFL is where its at, and the Bills just aren't performing up to par. Only Bills success can fill that void. :D

    521310

-If the Sabres had won the cup against the Stars, the entire community of WNY would have noticed and by far would have been the biggest celebration this city has ever seen.

-I'm guessing here, but the reason most of the people of Dallas didn't know about their hockey team is probably because their fan base is mostly transplanted northerners.

-If you don't like the Sabres or the UB Bulls, speak for yourself. I think both teams will make Jan, Feb & Mar an exciting time in WNY.

Just curious...do you currently live in WNY? If so, it might help to be a little more open minded towards other sports. As a matter of fact, after this football season, it will be a welcome relief.

  9. In the 3rd and 4th quarters did it ever occur to the coaching staff, that it might be wise to run to the outside or call a roll-out pass play? Miami was coming like gangbusters right up the middle over and over again, yet MM continued to call running plays between the tackles and pocket pass plays. Does somebody need to tell them that we now have a QB who is capable of excelling in the roll-out passing game? WTF!

  10. Nope...Sorry Bro, I want the whole lot gone...All of em...gone... ;)

    519596

I share your frustration as a long time Bills fan. I think this organization is crying for a HC with some experience and with the success Wyche had with the Bengals, he could be that man assuming his health isn't an issue. If not, give me any former HC who has had success in the NFL.

  11. I know that you shouldn't feel bad for someone who is making millions of dollars doing something they love, but I feel bad for the guy.

He played for the pitiful Bengals for 5 years. He finally gets the chance to escape from the Bengals in FA and chooses Buffalo. Now while the Bengals appear to have a team capable of making a playoff run for the forseeable future, Spikes is here in Buffalo trying to recover from an injury that is career ending(or career changing) for many players and is on a team that may be looking at a purging of veteran players on the wrong side of 30.

  12. We need to get the boys together right away, you guys are simply blowing our cover-

Remember rule 22R of our charter:

Section 22 Subection ® When the horse starts kicking back and making you look like a complete dumbass, quickly and quietly refocus on another horse.

Let's steady this ship before you embarass the balance of the Club's membership.

    478252

That's funny....I've posted twice since yesterday morning. Once about Lindell and the other about something Jeff Burris said on the radio. Maybe the person beating the dead horse is the one who started this thread.

  13. LOL!  Only when he makes 40-45 yard FG's consistently will I shut up.  Anything from under 40 is a given for any other kicker in this league so those don't count.

    477264

He's 5 of 6 from beyond 40 this year. Give the guy a little credit for his play this year. He has been just short of perfect. If he makes 13-15 beyond 40 by the end of the year, do you comeback with..."Oh yeah, but none of them with the game on the line!"?? :w00t:

  14. While listening to the game through some headphones at the stadium yesterday, I heard Jeff Burris report:

"Curtis Martin's feet are always close to the ground"

    477676

I happened to be in the car at this point in the game and also heard this. I'm still trying to figure out what he was actually trying to say. :D

  15. Even Alan Pergament of the Buffalo News is on the "bash shopp" bandwagon...

    Schopp's act is wearing thin

When Mike Schopp started at WNSA-FM with his "sports talk for smart people" slogan, I was a big fan.

He was reasonable, engaging, smart and funny.

But lately at WGR AM-550, the thin-skinned Schopp has lost me with his arrogance, rude treatment of callers and ludicrous statements...
