I think between Wannstedt now in charge as DC, the addition of Mario, and hopefully Kyle being able to stay healthy, this may finally be the year where the Bills make a huge jump in the defensive rankings.
So if Merriman is a bust and gets released in training camp, does Williams get pissed, and ask to have his contract voided? Merriman being on the team had ZERO to do with Williams signing on the dotted line.
It's amazing how Williams signing changes everyone's feelings on Juice Merriman. He is done. He is never going to be the player that he was when juicing. They got sucked into counting on him last year, and had no Plan B. It won't happen again.
The fiancee tour should have consisted of the Galleria Mall, NF Outlet Mall, Wegmans, and the nicest house they could find on the market in OP, or a visit with a builder to show her what $500k buys you in WNY.
Bottom line...the Bills need playmakers. He may not have the skill set that Meachem has and the Bills desire, but they need guys who can step in and play come September. Not a bunch of guys who are better suited for WR 4-5-6, or a draft choice that may take several years to develop.
As someone who follows schleps like Shilens because I play fantasy football, let me say that for 3 years I have been hearing he is going to break out.
I'll pass.
This nightmare scenario was just bouncing around in my head...
Littman enters the room, starts nitpicking over a few thousand dollars and Mario gets up and walks out.
The Bills and Gailey have had two years to analyze Jones, Easley and Roosevelt. If they felt that any of them could become the #2 WR they wouldn't have been so aggressive going after Meachem. My guess is they sign Robinson or Manningham(assuming they want similar or less money than what they offered to Meachem), and then draft a LT at #10(assuming Williams signs on as a Bill).
I think they feel very good about Nelson as a #3(slot WR).
