Who Remembers the Giant Whale Car Wash?
Fadingpain replied to Fadingpain's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Good call! Totally forgot about Fun-N-Games! It was right near the whale. And Twin Fair! Wow, blast from the past. -
Who Remembers the Giant Whale Car Wash?
Fadingpain replied to Fadingpain's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I don't know if you went in the mouth or ass. I don't think I ever actually went through the thing with my parents, but I used to see it all the time driving by. It was called "whale of a wash" I believe. If you google it, you will find references and photos like the one I posted. -
What Was The Deal With Gale Gilbert?
Fadingpain replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. I have heard others (I think Mark Kelso) comment on the fact that Gale Gilbert had the strongest arm of anyone they had ever seen. He used to perform some type of trick which now I can't quite remember. I think he got on his knees (or sat in a chair or something like that) at the 50 yard line and could throw the ball through the uprights, using nothing but arm strength, obviously. -
Do we really need another debate on Tyrod?
Fadingpain replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has consistently been a pretty big supporter of Tyrod. Defended him consistently when he was still on the team. -
I think some folks forget that these preseason "games" are really tools for coaching staffs to determine who they want to keep on their rosters and who they want to let go. It's not so much about winning the game.

HBO's Limited Series "Sharp Objects"
Fadingpain replied to Fadingpain's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I never saw that movie but now I'm intrigued! -
Who remembers the giant whale car wash? Used to be kind of near 290 and Colvin Blvd. junction area.

Nice explosion in that video. Physics is cool, and often, fun.

With Jack Bruce's death not that long ago, the Cream feud is pretty much over. What a shame, too.

National Josh Allen buzz after 1 preseason half
Fadingpain replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The high points showcased above are examples of the things Allen can do, as have long been acknowledged by even his fiercest critics. Tremendous arm, great velocity, at times can deliver big time home run type throws. The problem is the other stuff. The first pass of the game: big arm, big throw....3 yards out of bounds. 47% completion percentage for a half of football. The Panthers game did not reveal new insight into Allen's potential, it showcased exactly who he is and who he has been. Here's hoping he can morph into a substantially more consistent, accurate passer. -
Josh Allen needs a nickname
Fadingpain replied to FeelingOnYouboty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh Christ. Let's not bring Glen Campbell into this if we don't have to. -
I'm watching the replay of the game right now. I thought Murphy looked great last night and Ivory much less so. Will focus on both of those guys during the replay viewing.

Adam Schein: Josh Allen is the next Carson Wentz
Fadingpain replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Congratulations. You Allen supporters finally found an ally. The wise and knowledgable Adam Schein. -
Just turned it on at halftime. Caught the first half highlights. Looks like Darnold made a few good throws including 1 for a TD.

They are almost identical in size. Both 6'5" with listed weights 2 pounds apart. Newton is listed at 245; Benjamin at 243. Maybe your eye is really good and you caught the 2 pound advantage?

If this is the 1974 Bears game... It was played on October 27th. We won 16-6. Attendance: 78,084. This video popped up afterward....also quite interesting! About the building of Rich Stadium in 1972. It mentions that field level is 50 feet below ground level. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFAyTbllkxQ

True or Apocryphal: Buffalo City Hall Suicide Incident
Fadingpain replied to Fadingpain's topic in Off the Wall
I'm up there usually once a year. Still have friends and family in the area. Look at the detail photos; it's quite dirty. Not disgusting like it might have been in the '80s but it's dirty. It could be a lot cleaner. A good example is the Brandenburg Gate. Note the difference before and after cleanings. -
At what point will his completion % be of interest to you? Do you root for the Bills? It's interesting in that long throws aren't as commonplace as you might think. I would like to see a stat on 50+ yard passes. I agree 60 is exceedingly long.
-
Great stat from Aaron Schatz today. Only 17 passes in the entire NFL in the last 5 years have travelled more than 60 yards in the air. Only 4 of them were caught. Last year at Wyoming, Allen completed ONE (1) pass that traveled 40 yards in the air (or more). Interesting.

How To Beat Off Rabid Beaver
Fadingpain replied to ExiledInIllinois's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Oh! You mean thwart an animal attack. I thought this was an article giving sex advice. -
Is anyone mentioning Allen's 47% completion percentage last night?

Ha ha. Beat me to it. Roger Waters vs. David Gilmour is the first thing that came to mind. Was watching a recent interview with Roger Waters. The interviewer asked if Gilmour had attended art college or architecture school like most of the band members did, and Water was like "Are you kidding? He wasn't university material. He was working as a truck driver when he joined the band." Really condescending....those 2 guys absolutely hate each other. After their reunion show at the 02 Arena in London a few years ago, there is no doubt JPJ and Jimmy Page wanted to put a tour together, which would have made my decade. Robert Plant held out on them and to this day, there is some bad blood there too. I think Plant knows more than anyone that he just can't sing Zeppelin material anymore, and his ego prevents him from going out and trying his best anyway. God forbid he give a little something back to the fans who have made him fabulously wealthy his entire life.
