  1. Here's two cents fwiw.... If the biggest criticism of Peterman is that his arm creates a ceiling of achievement and he will be, at best, a solid back-up, given where we picked him that would still be solid stability moving forward through a new FO and Coaching Staff while implementing a new system. Honestly, that's a worst-case scenario barring any health issues. The other penny is more of a positive perspective. I agree with the sentiment that arm strength and power is overrated. Especially when they have strong decision making ability, composure, and football IQ. Two successful QB's with poor arm strength off the top of my head are Philip Rivers, and P. Manning in the latter half of his career. Now will Peterman even come close to their intangibles? We'll see, like I said, upside. Either way, instead of speculating now, let's give the kid time to develop and let's hope we have the staff and support in place to get him there.
  2. At most - but on one upside, tanking next season puts us in line for a top pick the next year to fully commit to rebuild. If we pick accordingly this year as well. Tbh, don't really know that TT is the longterm solution. Do we forsake the next 5-10 years on the chance we make the playoffs?
  3. 1. He'll go to the Jets or anywhere else before us 2. He'll cost us too much money on an already heavily saturated cap situation 3. He'll die on or before the first drive of the season 4. He's not a long term answer to making the Bills a perennial contender, not just for the playoffs, but beyond
  4. Might be an unpopular opinion fwiw, but looks to be greater value at WR or DB for the 10th pick - both are positional needs. Call me crazy, but I'm more meh on this year's QB class spending a top ten pick (regardless of how badly we need a franchise solution). Also be down for long term commitment to upgrading the OL - see Raiders, Cowboys, etc. They're never a sexy pick, but often make the greatest offensive impact IMO. We could use at least two positional upgrades along our line as it stands.
  5. Lord, if it's Olson the only thing we'd have to look forward to is the first pick in the 2018 draft. Spending four years watching the Bucs with two of my roommates inspires nothing but failure with this P.O.S. coordinator. 3rd Down checkdowns to the flat relentlessly and the best year for Schmidt is about all that can be foretold. I'd prefer Childress but honestly are these two the best we can do?
  6. It's a solid point you make, and 10-6 is nothing disreputable. But on paper I feel like it looks better than it is. IMO that's a pretty weak 10 in W column. We've had solid wins this year over weaker teams, and some well fought games - but overall I can't say I've ever once watched this team this year with confidence. Never did I turn on the TV/Computer not saying, "okay, will the whole team show up today?"; "who's injured?"; "defense played lights out last game so they're due for another inconsistent performance." You honestly don't know what team will play each week. That lack of consistency would make this a very weak 10-6 season. I guess to end the ramble would be this - it's easy to look at the culminating W-L record of 10-6 and say that it was a good season. But the journey to that number tells all. What teams did you beat and how? Which teams did you lose to and how? Fact of the matter is this team is ways off from performing like a playoff team.
  7. Word. It's not only the defense - your defense wins football games when your offense stays out on the field. The way good teams win while ahead is the time of possession. You don't need South Park Ski Instructor to know If you go 3 and out three consecutive times in the second half, you're going to have a bad time. You can argue the INT wasn't entirely TT's fault, but our offensive momentum was completely halted halfway through the second half. Yes, our secondary is an enormous concern heading into the final four games, and yes this should be an absolute priority going into the draft. But we have a porous OL, a QB who doesn't sustain offensive momentum, WR who don't get open, and an RB who rips off one huge run a game and opposing teams figure out by the 3rd quarter. Just because we have elite pieces doesn't mean we have a good team.
  8. ^word That's unfortunate about Darby - although even with him in I'm still concerned this game is going to come down to our deflated Secondary stepping it up to stop their passing attack (obviously with the addition of a top notch pass rush performance), which doesn't inspire confidence. That being said, still all the optimistic. GO BILLS!
  9. Ditto - granted, not every route is open all the time which often forces TT to pull down, but he's not a 4 second QB. He holds the ball and doesn't take chances, period. It's one of the reasons his INT/turnover ratio is so low, it helps us in the toxic differential, but doesn't allow our offense to open up at all. Love to see TT make quicker reads and get the ball out in 3, 4 sec tops - our OL might actually be stout for that amount of time.
  10. This whole post basically. The strategy of drafting a DB every year at least insures depth at the position and potential growth w/ minimal risk if the pick comes in the 3rd-5th rounds. Glad I read through the thread before b/c Tavon Young was someone who Rex/Whaley would likely bring in for the purpose of being opposite Darby and learning from those on the roster through an easier transition. As it stands our depth is strong, Sterling Moore plays great man coverage and has consistent experience in the nickel position, his skill set coupled with a growing Robey gives us enough cushion when you add Corey Graham to the mix to amply back up either wing of the defense if they get clipped.
  11. Word. Honestly I wouldn't mind having all three on the field w/ priority given to AW and Graham (pending AW is truly 100%, and Graham doesn't age much b/t now and next season) both are tremendously consistent and will be great with other added talent through the offseason and draft. Rambo's consistency has been an issue but usually finds himself in the clutch. Rambo would be better suited for a 2-3 down role with minimal coverage responsibility beyond general zones. Would like to see us make a move at safety in the draft tbh, but certainly not a top need if AW is truly 100%. Neck injuries can be traumatic like that.
  12. Look for us to spend most of our FA cash on retention - especially in shoring up the left side of the line in glenn and incognito. A few other contracts might be worked out as well leaving most of our talent fills to come in the draft. Looking at these lists, our needs at LB, OL, DL are better found in the draft. I'm not sure about the safety pool, but my guess is it's leaning the same way. Of course, I'd still like to see us make a splash in that WR pool as there's plenty of depth to fill the WR2 hole in our roster right now with Woods being so 50/50. Notably, James Jones, Alshon, Boldin, Rishard Matthews, or even Travis Benjamin would make for an interesting OTA and training camp. Either way, fingers crossed for another solid draft performance finding talent in late rounds.
  13. would enjoy seeing pettine return...liked how he worked with our defense and he may be able to make something of this miscommunicated, nonperforming unit
  14. I'm sorry but any professional NFL coach that attempts to force a scheme and system on a team with the incorrect personnel for the job should not be coaching in this league. Good coaches either build personnel over a year or two to fit and implement the scheme (which wasn't the case since Rex promised immediate results...surprise), or they shape the scheme to fit their current personnel. Even if this involves using a system different from what you've known. Pretty simple to see why our defense went from 4th to 19th or whatever it is this season - not calling for any heads just yet but a pretty piss poor way to start whatever tenure you have here in Buffalo, Rex...
  15. no, just no. If Rob were to be at OBD next year, I would never have more doubt about the success of this team...to be honest, the issues coming out of the organization sound like fractured locker room and front office. The former is why we lost this year - and that is not Whaley's fault, that is entirely on the team and coaching staff. If Whaley is gone and we don't move Rex to DC or any other position but HC I doubt the direction this team would be headed. Not to put a clearly negative thread worthy post on here, but these are the kind of front office moves that destroy teams and any hope they have at re-building
  16. WHY IS MCKELVIN STILL ON THIS TEAM?
  17. but actually, bringing in EJ is telegraphing a run/read option considering he hasn't thrown it on any of those plays, not fooling anybody greg....what the actual f*** is this system and team?
  18. Can we just cut mckelvin already?
  19. Urbik played well today, but still a stretch to say he's better than Miller. Given his mid-season injury hiccup and the fact he's a rookie, expect more consistent top play from Miller going forward whereas Urbik has proven to be mediocre over his time here. But again, consolation with Urbik's stronger performance today - but doubtful that it will continue. Shout out to Mills for stepping up big and controlling Watt with frequent double teams.
  20. This is easily the biggest point of the season. Everyone is questioning how/why our defense went from Top 5 last year to middle of the pack this year. Well, our "multiple front" "hybrid" defense isn't anything the names lead you to believe it to be. Ryan's system is still very much 3-4 base - he'll give you varied looks, but fundamentally still the same. If the personnel doesn't match the system/scheme, you're going to have a bad time. The meme really writes itself here. Honestly, I don't understand why Rex believed his system would work within the first year here - our current personnel does not play 3-4. I wasn't and still are not sure what our front office was anticipating when they thought about his system working with this current roster. We have a very clear and cut setup for a 4-3. You can see the frustration in the players having to wrap their minds around multiple look coverage so much that it's taking away from their on the field impact. Don't fix what ain't broke! You can fine tune to iron out wrinkles and kinks, but don't implement an entirely new system with conflicting philosophies and methodology and expect it to work instantly.
  21. Both are right, say we end up 10-6 or 9-7, might be too deep to really go after one position. BPA at the pick may be best route and end up filling one of these needs.
  22. Amen, just about to add this. Honestly, if he keeps this up, he's our #1 FA priority. His ability to pass block, downhill run block, and pull to open an edge is ridiculous. Couldn't hurt to draft someone for depth along the line, but certainly frees up the 1st round for another WR, LB, or even pass rusher (not starting this convo too soon, but nice that it's one less position of worry if we were to re-sign him). Bring him back for sure.
  23. Had an Alonso jersey, fwiw And difficult to disagree with the OP. Won't stop watching or being the avid fan I am. But exactly when do we get a break in this horrific streak of losing?
  24. +1 Moral victories don't get you into the playoffs. At some point you have to start demanding wins and not accepting losses in any form. This game was entirely in our control. Playoff caliber teams play and win regardless of how many starters are injured/not dressing. There is only one statistic that matters and that is the left hand column of W's compared to the right hand column of L's. Did we fight today? Absolutely. Should we have had to? Absolutely not. That 2nd quarter was atrocious and was the major reason we lost this game. Lot of football left to play and we need to regroup over the bye, but my patience is completely done.
  25. Word. D really has to step up this week with a crippled offense coming into London. Even if it's against the Jags, they aren't likely to roll over.
