Report: Cowboys may have interest in trading for KB
ctk232 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Idk if "settled" is the right term, considering they gave up their 2019 1st for Terrell Owens 2.0, but hey, we could always get their second for KB then and see if Jerry wants to build us a new stadium too based on observation of this Cooper trade. -
Report: Cowboys may have interest in trading for KB

Welp, this thread is just about done now a la Cooper...doubt they want KB now unless they want to trade away another franchise prick for another future Terrell Owens, Cooper being the first imo. -
While I, at least, need another year to pass judgment on Daboll, I get that many others are ready to move on for myriad reasons. I can certainly see the issues he has in playcalling, but the systemic issues of lack of talent, especially at the QB position can drastically stifle and suffocate an offense. Simply put, if you don't have a good QB you won't have a good offense in the NFL. Seems more obvious, but the emphasis is having a QB that can provide the foundation for a pass first offense, we don't have that. That being said, I don't understand if he had been an OC in the NFL before, and was determined by NFL organizations to not be a worthwhile OC capable of this level, why do we think he will be better with us? Obvious, "cuz we're the bills" answers aside - the logic of expecting anything different seems a bit baseless in that regard, and it's something that gives me trouble when I say give him one more year.

I think we lucked ourselves into the playoffs more than we played our way in, but still think McD should stay - not just for that reason, among other insanely logical reasons, but the team didn't get themselves into a position that we could luck into the playoffs all on their own.

Patrick Peterson available; has now requested a trade

As much as we'd love to see him here, those are the teams he wants to go to. Thing with a trade is it's not exactly up to him, though. -
Denver listening to trade offers for Demaryious Thomas
ctk232 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trade for him and Cooper if you can. DT for now, Cooper for later. Not sure what we'd have to give up for both, but a 5 for DT is fine in my book given your reason stated there. It's a no brainer really, though it does handicap our free cap situation a bit trading for both when we need other positions as well. -

KB is a WR suited for one purpose, making contested catches. He will thrive in a system where he can be WR2/3 and will absolutely be used like a TE on third downs and in the red zone. He is not a WR1 who can line up against the best DBs in the league week in and week out and expect the likes of our QB roster to deliver him a catchable ball. While I'm indifferent to keeping him, I do believe he will be a very useful offensive tool should we go get our WR1 in FA or the draft, the latter being more likely. Keep Zay as our WR3 and he'll fit right into the slot role and excel in something of familiarity. Once we have a QB (whether it be Allen or not) who can make accurate throws on time, you'll see our passing attack develop into a competitor. Given the increase of emphasis on passing in the league, there's no reason we shouldn't treat the WR position like we do DBs in every draft. We did it this last year with Ray Ray, Proehl, and Foster as undrafted. Didn't pan out this year, but still worth the strategy in a pass first league. -

And I'm saying Cousins isn't worth that money - I get that you pay franchise QBs that much, but I'm just of the opinion that while he may be in the top 10/15 QBs in the league right now, imo he isn't worth that much money. -

It matters for when you are trying to retain roster talent within the cap - you can handicap an entire team by overpaying one player exorbitantly. And while Cousins would be an upgrade over our current roster, without a doubt, thinking beyond this season for the rebuild and the future we all want, I'm more hopeful for a rookie QB than a more known quantity/ceiling with Cousins. Cousins likely wouldn't do much with this current roster of talent either. -

Well organized! The irony of this year being that we're likely to end up with the first overall or second overall pick at this rate, and in a year when we need nothing but offense, the only generational talent worth a top pick would be Oliver/Bosa. That being said, I'd be fine with either in the first as long as we address issues in FA, and use our other picks on OL/WR. I also like the idea of trading down for more picks, but if we land #1 or #2 overall, it'll be tough to pass on Oliver/Bosa, and it's usually best to go BPA regardless of position need outside of QB with a top 3 even top 5 pick. I'd be okay trading back if neither Oliver or Bosa are available for us wherever we end up. To be honest though, the biggest moves that need to be made are on the offensive line. They are the least sexy moves a team can make to get better, but if you want a better offense, start with your line. While skill position players score, it's because of the OL that they even look remotely good. Most elite RBs are made so by their offensive lines, creating holes, getting to the linebackers for blocks, etc. They make receivers look good by allowing solid pass protect for them to have time to run their routes. And I don't even need to tell you the ways they can make even the most mediocre QB look franchise worthy. Building a stout line will allow for greater perspective and results from every other position. Do we need a top WR? And a RB for the future after Shady? Absolutely, but without a line anchoring everything, the picks will lose value, fast. Agree to disagree - how you think this team can win four more games against the remaining schedule if that's how we play against a 1-5 Colts team is escaping me. I just think a bit of perspective is warranted, given the fact that you're expecting Allen to come back off his UCL and be better, or at least show improvement immediately. While I hope you're right in this regard, it's highly unlikely, but more unlikely that regardless of how much he does improve, our offense won't improve enough to what is needed to finish the season with 7 wins. -

Cousins is overrated for what he's being paid. He's not an elite QB in the league, and that's fairly evident given the Vikings have a great roster around him. But this is exactly what I've been thinking in regards to our "Top Defense." While they may grade out that way statistically, their play is anything but consistent against teams. Now I'm not discounting the fact that they were on the field an inordinate amount of time, and infinitely more than any Defense ever should, but we were getting beat by Luck most of the game. Against these types of offenses with elite QBs, I think our Defense can be shutdown as long as they minimize their time on the field. With a competent offense, this defense poses much greater threats. 4-12 seems the most likely at present with hopes for 5-11. -

What makes you think Allen coming back will change anything? It doesn't matter how good the defense is when they're tired by the second quarter since the offense only holds the ball for maybe 15 minutes a game. The offense hasn't changed it's roster much at all since the start of the season with the exception of QB. Most of them are vet players who already hit their ceilings, what improvement is there to be seen from the second half of the season that we wouldn't have seen already? If they haven't improved to this point, they likely won't for the rest of the season. They will likely only win 2-3 more games at most at the current rate. AND IT'S OKAY. let the dumpsterfire happen and let's see how we can improve our rookies for next year, and potentially hit some key trades at the deadline. -
Green Bay and New England both for comparison. Mass as a state with mass taxes, and Green Bay for a similar market team. It's as simple as winning football games. Players want to win football games, and they will go to the teams that win and pay them the most money.

Anderson better mentor for Allen? I think so.
ctk232 replied to Thick or thin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're basing this on what exactly? Can having someone who has been exposed to something for longer than you have help to provide clarification? Absolutely, but that doesn't actually make the difference in terms of your personal growth. It can help your perspective, but not the end result. I'd be curious to see what McCown's ability to coach would be like - obviously there are players who coach better than they play, but to attribute Darnold's performance to McCown's guidance is a bit much, albeit my opinion. Lastly, never said Allen > Darnold right now? Confusing, but either way that disparity is clear. They are at very different points in development - with two VERY different organizations and rosters around them as well, and Allen most certainly needs the time. But for sure let's hope the potential translates into progress in performance. -
Raiders now Shopping Derek Carr (?)
ctk232 replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Worth a 3rd with a MUCH lighter contract if he were to be a Bill and have me be happy about it. Then we get to watch all the "QB Controversy" articles and threads about Carr v. Allen and who starts in 2019...so even a 3rd might be too much for me there... -
We finally have a great chance at the #1 overall pick
ctk232 replied to LFC24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup - would love to see us trade down if we end up in the top 12 picks even. Specifically I want us to land a top 5 and trade back for two potential 1st's this year from the Raiders, but otherwise just stack capital - we need OL and WR outside of the obligatory DB that should be drafted every year, every pick should be offensively focused. -
Tells you all you need to know about these ratings and the parameters/algorithms at play, if any at all...
-
Best specific scenario, but regardless, if we end up in the top 12 picks I'm still for trading back in all honesty.

^the reason why he has no pass rush. Don't need to "look into the reasons why" or watch film to see that. imo Gruden was never truly a great coach, and was more so in the right place right time with Tampa. He just never coached the Bucs team out of winning, but otherwise inherited a fairly talented team defense and scheme from Dungy.
-
You want an Alex Smith then, not a Derek Anderson. Again, hopeful with the rest of us, but I can't see this going well outside of the fact that Indy has literally no tape on Anderson. It's skewed by his one solid year - look at his stats year to year for better trends and historical growth/decline. Not to mention, while widely used, Passer Rating has it's own statistical shortcomings.

The Rosen Era Has Begun in Arizona
ctk232 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nailed it - sadly we'll always be comparing ourselves to everyone else. While you can draw few universal commonalities across teams in the league, saying we passed up on a QB or any other player doesn't mean anything. Had we drafted Rosen, there's no guarantee he plays the way he's playing now, or that anything plays out the way it is now. We also want to do this to validate our own beliefs, or disbelief in our FO and other components of the organization, but mostly for the reason you write above. The other piece is the insanely flawed logic that all QBs drafted this year should progress at the same rate. In what world could that be true? Even with 5 identical QBs in every single atomic way, drafted by 5 different teams will all develop differently and at different rates. Allen was always going to take the longest, and likely wouldn't have started until at least next year in our FO's ideal world. The sky is falling routine after six weeks is getting old. Be critical of his performance and development, sure, but calling it after so little efficacious data has been presented is pretty pathetic.
