  1. That’s the second time this week I’ve gotten bad info from listening to sports radio. I still like that payout though.
  2. I’m going to watch, but here’s a betting tip for you: the Islanders are 150-1 to win the Conference. Every one of their home games through the playoffs from here on out will be played at Nassau Coliseum, which is a giant boost for them.
  3. My initial point was that ANY fight was worth it, because not trying makes a farce of an election. Everyone agrees that Crowley foolishly looked past the primary. Beyond that, I have two things to say: (1) Pappas got 19,000 votes in the general and Crowley got 9,000 (after completely backing off any thought of running as an independent). O-C was extremely vulnerable to any serious challenge. She only pulled in 110,000 votes. People think she’s ridden into Congress on a wave of support. She really didn’t. https://ballotpedia.org/New_York's_14th_Congressional_District_election,_2018. (2) any fight, any debate, would have quickly and easily exposed O-C as the vapid dolt that she is. The result would be that she would have zero clout as a freshman Congresswoman, instead of actually dictating 2020 platform rhetoric. I do blame the NYC R’s for abdicating a fight, but I also blame Pappas for having no nuts to try and no brains to see that he might have had a shot.
  4. I don’t believe it for a second. All he had to do was set up a podium on Steinway street so that NY1 would show up with their cameras, and say: “I’m Anthony Pappas, and I’d like a debate”. Say it two or three times. If she dodged him after that, I’d believe it. If he actually asked for a debate, he’s the only one who knows about it. Are you sure he didn’t say date?
  5. The guy is a frikkin economics professor. How about one or two debates in the run up to the election, at least? He would have exposed her early on. Debates don’t cost ANY money.
  6. Anthony Pappas. To me, this guy is despicable. Don’t run if you’re not going to try. https://www.wnyc.org/story/meet-republican-running-against-ocasio-cortez/
  7. Here is an article from Bloomberg. Looks like they’re going to try to throw Rosenstein under the #25 bus. https://apple.news/ALnYMHCXkSDOgKnMCQwlQPA A side note from that piece is that these Congressional “closed door” interviews are b.s. as far as non-disclosure goes. From the article: “A review of the unreleased transcript of Moyer’s closed-door testimony to members of two House committees from Oct. 23, 2018, buttresses McCabe’s version. So, too, does the testimony of former FBI General Counsel James Baker, who discussed with the Oversight and Judiciary committees during two days of closed-door questioning -- on Oct. 3 and 18, 2018 -- what he’d been told contemporaneously of Rosenstein’s suggestions about taping Trump.”
  8. Joe Biden is set to self destruct in t-minus 7 months.
  9. Is it a sheet of paper with lies written all over it?
  10. ^^^^^Are you a unicorn, or just happy to see me? That guy has got to regret posing for that photo.
  11. The national emergency is a mistake — whether justified by the current statute or not. Comparing it to (and justifying it by) other, prior questionable emergencies is wrong. You can’t complain about executive overreach practiced by other Executives and then continue to overreach. Border issues, trafficking, drug smuggling, and security is a big problem but not an emergency. The only thing I hope for now is that Congress is so pissed off that they try to repeal the law so it can’t be abused in the future. Trump should know by now that Republicans don’t really have his back and never will. He should have seen last year that by delaying the issue until after the midterms wasn’t going to get him his wall. He opened his fat trap before the shutdown and then screwed up by backing off the shutdown and allowing the three week extension. Then he let “his” party try to negotiate the financing for him and they failed yet again (doesn’t look like they tried very hard). Major ***** up by the President.
  12. Does McCabe (or whomever he claims was involved) know how the 25th Amendment works? It doesn't look like they would have gotten very far. Here it is: Amendment XXV Section 1. In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President. Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress. Section 3. Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President. Section 4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President. Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.
  13. I agree. Good (that other thread was getting morbid). That being said, how ironic would it be if she fell down the Courthouse steps on her way home?
  14. If you and I went to get beers, we'd wind up just nodding at each other.
  15. Just about, but not all. The Islanders are currently 34-17-6 (74 points). First in Metro with a 3 point cushion on the Caps and a game in hand. I'm not going to keep stating my position, but consider the fact that the type of hockey that Lamoriello likes his coaches to run is compatible with ANY NHL-level player. You don't need to re-arrange the roster over a period of three or four seasons to get the right players. They lost talent when Tavares left, and changed coaches and GM. They finished last season at 35-37-10 (80 points). It's hockey. Play a basic puck support style with short, crisp passing and disciplined play in your own end. Don't get fancy with systems. Don't worry if one guy or another can fit a style. Just get fast, talented players who want to go into the corners and the slot and work to keep the other team out of the corners and the slot. Holy cripe, it is pretty simple, and when it is done well, it is just as fun to watch as any other type of play.
  16. The Mayor is on WNYC Radio every Friday (Brian Lehrer "Ask the Mayor" segment). He made all of the basic points that everyone here is making: (1) vast majority of New Yorkers wanted this, (2) revenue was to be 9:1 on the plus side, etc. The twists were: (A) he was shocked and stunned, and pissed off that Amazon just pulled the plug while the City and State were still discussing things, (B) he claimed that he was trying all along to get Amazon to commit to investing in infrastructure/engaging with unions/committing to giving jobs to NYC residents, (C) the incentives given were not specifically tailored to Amazon, but were based on existing NYS and NYC laws on the books. He made to or three very thinly veiled shots at local politicians (AOC and others who were loud) who have their heads up their asses. The NYS Senate turnover this last election was the final straw on the camel's back. There is no turning back for this State now. I'm advising my kids to get out of NY while they've got the chance.
  17. Cuomo and D’bagio were for the Amazon move. Both were going to line their pockets in one way or another; and they got the extra bonus of having Bezos come in to carve out a utopia in LIC. This was all negotiated before AOC was elected in November (but probably after the primary). Local businesses were on board because even though there was likely to be graft and political posturing, they would also reap benefits from the ripples. Adjacent neighborhoods were also licking their chops because this was such a big move, they were going to see benefits, too. I’m sure the D’s downstate, and many in Albany aren’t too happy with Cortez. A statewide poll showed that a majority supported the Amazon deal, and that in NYC there was a 28% difference in favor. https://www.wsj.com/articles/majority-of-new-yorkers-support-amazon-project-in-queens-new-poll-shows-11549967400 Cortez really should look into her future and decide it might be smart to keep her mouth shut about taking credit for driving Amazon away.
  18. Amazon: "Hi, NYC, here is a big giant valuable diamond! Give me a much less valuable emerald in return and we can do business" NYC morons: "***** you, #######!" Amazon: "??✌️"
