I like to tell this story every pride month.
Back in the 90s one of my good friends who is gay would often repeat the mantra of the day:
"Don't judge me by my sexuality"
I would challenge him by asking if he doesn't want to have his human identity distilled down to who he prefers to have sex with then why be a member of the gay men's choir? It seems that only encourages people to focus on that part of who you are and not the rest.
We live in different states now and only talk a few times a year but I do know that he's not on board with the current nonsense that is pride month. The whole movement has gone from don't judge us by our sexuality to everything about me is defined by this flag, so celebrate us or else you bigot.
Oh and let us talk to your kids about it too.
Divorce the LGB from the TQ+ and I think we get back to some sense of normalcy.
