Believe it or not once upon a time this place wasn't that far off from what you describe. It wasn't sunshine and rainbows by any stretch and you'd be called an idiot if you took an idiotic position, but the issues could be debated in a relatively adult like manner. The forum was moderated, tempers surely flared occasionally and crusading would get you a vacation and an eventual ban. Now what Billsfuk.c does here daily can be conservatively described as obsessive crusading on steroids, or shi.t posting if you prefer. It goes along unchecked, and this place has gone from stinking swamp to toxic waste dump. But at the end of the day this is a group of internet strangers talking politics via text. There's a reason most of society mutually agrees to avoid discussing these topics in person. Therefore I will never understand why anyone expects this place to be anything close to collegial. It never was going to be that way, and certainly not in 2024. So we have a sub forum on a pro sports team message board with maybe 20 regular posters that has been a constant thorn in the side of the board founder. I'm certainly not in SDS' head, but if it was me I'd have deep sixed this place long ago.

I have been a Democrat my entire life. I live in Los Angeles. I was an actress for years. I voted for Obama, then Clinton. I couldn’t wait to vote against the ban on gay marriage. I supported Planned Parenthood. I called JK Rowling “TERF.” I read books like THE NEW JIM CROW in an attempt to “educate” myself. I was a Democrat through-and-through, and more than that—I was even onboard with wokeism, with equity (as opposed to equality), with intersectional feminism, etc. These people had me pretty much hook, line, and sinker. Then in Summer 2020 I was encouraged to go out and engage in “firey but mostly peaceful protests” but was told it was still unsafe for me to go to work. That didn’t make sense. Nothing around me made any sense whatsoever. And I really needed to go back to work. Whenever I brought this up, I was told I was being selfish or even “racist.” Indeed, whenever I saw talk—whether online or on corporate news—of those who took issue with lockdowns, it was always framed as an issue of selfishness, even of racism. For some reason, liberal folks had this idea that anyone remotely concerned over lockdowns was a wealthy white woman who was just bored and wanted to get her hair and nails done. I felt like screaming at everyone, “who do you think does hair and nails?” Hairdressers and nail artists, whose jobs are ESSENTIAL TO THEM. Everyone is an “essential worker” to himself and the people who may depend upon him. What bothered me the most wasn’t that these people disagreed with me, or that they had different ideas on how best to handle covid or BLM unrest—what bothered me the most was that they absolutely refused to recognize I might have any honest reasons for disagreeing with them. And I had honest reasons for disagreeing with them. I and MANY others were being harmed by the tyrannical, overreaching, nonsensical response to covid—especially in blue cities and states. That felt like a punch to the gut, from the people I’d supported and aligned with all my life. So I walked away from the Democrat party. They’ve proven me correct every damn day since then. #walkaway

If PPP was shut down it would put some extra stress on mods for a bit with political posts spilling into the main board, but I agree it would be better in the long run. With PPP gone I guarantee it would result in a Billsfuk.c self ban. It wouldn't be able to resist posting about Trump on the main forum, so it would either leave or be banned in short order.

Now this is something I have ruminated on. I've been here over 20 years and this place has always been the other side of the tracks of TBD and universally regarded as a place of sniping and rough and tumble interaction.....at best. However, just like the rest of society it's gone from bad to apocalyptic level from what it was even 10 years ago. SDS has said publicly that he regrets ever allowing this forum to exist and I don't think any mod should be asked to moderate this cesspool. Even if you get rid of Billsfuk.c and Tibstain this place will always remain a big cesspool. It always has been and always will be. We could all do SDS a solid though and collectively vote on whether or not to shut down PPP permanently so he doesn't have to make the call. Make the bar low, if you've posted in PPP five times in 2024 you get a vote. You receive a "ballot" from SDS/mod via PM and you submit your vote. Yes or No. No commentary allowed. Let's face it, there are probably only 20 of us who would meet the five posts in 2024 criteria. Let the chips fall. I'd be on board to put it to a vote.

It should have been banned in 2020. It's obvious it's only here to spam PPP about Trump. It began doing so from the very first day it joined the board. Now of course it will point out that in recent months I have adopted a posting style that semi-mirrors it's own, with the biggest difference being that I don't interact with ANY OF ITS POSTS DIRECTLY. Thus leaving a lot of unnecessary clutter off the forum. Additionally, I've been here since since 2002, longer than Billsfuk.c, Tibstain, Roundy and Lron- ***** stain....COMBINED, with an extensive posting history on the main forum that it of course can't point to. At all. Having said that, I don't have much faith in anything being done about Billsfuk.c. But if something is done and they decide to ban me as a balance from "the other side" Well, then you're all welcome.
