  1. Belicheck was a diaster in Cleveland, and a mad/bad genius in NE......not sure Schwartz wouldn't make the same transition. I say give it a try if Marrone is out. Getting a good O Coordinator is real important.........Chan Gailey is available to unretire!!LOL Where is Bobby april these days?
  2. Actually, not all incompletions are misses/bad throws. some are throwing balls away.....usually on shorter passes its easier to detect...on long passes it just looks like a miss. I don't know how to account for that in your analysis. Anyhow, I certainly saw some of those, and you did not mention those in the stats, therefore I intrepret you counted those as missed throw. the were missed, but on purpose.....that said, it was certainly not Orton's best game. So, I don't object to the overall conclusion. But, we know he is not Andrew Luck or tom Brady.....its just that he is so much better than EJ he is who the Bilss should play now.
  3. The problem with quoting these stats is that he was totally coddled by Hackett, and ran an offense designed to make a green QB survive while undergoinlg OJT. Put him in the o that Orton is running...that is the full menu, and Manuel would have a rating half of what he has realized to date.
  4. I like Cutlers talent, and he can be a superbowl QB. I don't think the current Bills staff has the moxy to manage him, though. (recalling the Josh McDaniel fiasco in Denver)
  5. EJ, no way. Give him another training camp.....and, we know, he does not enjoy the support of the veterans on the squad, especially in the receiving core who know how bad his arm is. As for Orton, he is better than his current detractors say, and not as good as his major advocates say. But, he is better than EJ by a lot. The Bills at 5-5 are not out of it, just really a long shot. If EJ comes in and looks terrible again, he would be done in Buffalo....not sure its time for thay yet....he will get season three says me. After that, adious if he isn't cutting it big time....no 5 year audition like Losman got. As for Gragg mentioned in other threads....I am a total non believer....drops way to many balls...not in any way the receiver that Chandler is.....and, way to small to block effectively.....Chandler is only half effective, Gragg no blocking skill. Gragg is really almost an H back....who has questionable hands.
  6. Unlikely Schwartz stays unless he is the new HC. I think he has a lot of money still coming from the Lions, and what the Bills pay is just deducted from that......I think it works that way. Schwartz is coaching here to stay in the hunt for another HC job......he nets nothing in terms of money........for another year yet I think as well. Perhaps somebody on this board knows the exact terms, I do not. I agree Whaley is talented, but he needs a grey head to help get the right answers on the draft......Watkins is a stud, but, so is Kelvin Benjamin...picked at #27 or something like that. And other first round receivers doing really well also. Not sure the Watkins trade was true value.......especially when another QB is apparently necessary. I don't see a long term keeper at QB on the roster right now.
  7. Unfortunately, Harbaugh is just a more talented verson of Greg Williams......thinks he is still in college. I really don't want to see him with the Bills......
  8. Im down here in Ft Myers. Huge coverage on local TV about Sammy coming back to Florida for a game and a lot of pro Bills talk on the station I was watching. Sammy was back during the bye and was prominent at his high school's football game that weekend, clips of that included as well as live showing Sammy warming up in the Phins stadium. watching tonight at a local sports bar...wearing my bills gear....hoping thats not a problem.
  9. The D is solid, the O is questionable. Marrone might survive if he cuts Hackett loose.....the number? Well, not sure its totally the number. If they are decent , say 8-8, and playing well and hard and competitive.....I guess they might get another shot. If they go 9-7 and look like garbage....I think a change could be in order. Pegula is in the entertainment business.....and that factor needs to be considered by all the die hard football folks on this board. Other intangibles might also be considerations....are Marrone/Hackett respected in the locker room? I don't know....I suspect Whaley has his sources to assess that, we certainly don't here on this site. OK, I am saying this is complex calculus, and will not easily be characterized by a win number. Sorry for the run on answer.
  10. Orton the remainder of the year, Marrone has made his choice....and he is right. Now, about next year and the various phases of camp....I expect to see another QB candidate....either a draftee......practice squad replacement for Tuel......or a vet if the gloss of off EJ.. and I certainly think it is. EJ, with a bad preseason, could be GONE!
  11. I was never a Sanchez hater, but I was and still am a Sanchez doubter.......he hasn't shown he is an A player....he might be a C+ players or even a B-.
  12. With a loss Thursday, the Bills would be 5-5, and would be, at most, spoilers for other playoff bound teams for the remainder of this season. I actually feel the bills have a better chance thursday than they did Sunday against KC. Bills have handled the 'phins last three outings, I recall. Buffalo has talent, and the coaching staff is actually adapting to a more wide open style now that the running game is so-so, and we have a competant QB. As for next year, Pegula will do whatever he wants.....and that may well be determined by how the Bills play the rest of the year. If they play hard and end up 8-8, I think the current management stays......if they play "run for the bus" football at any time...then new coaching will be in place next year. (thats actually a WNY term...learned in many previous Bills administrations of prior decades) I think though, that Whaley will survive......and be faced with having to sign our real performers in free agency. (Darius, Hughes, and maybe Spiller come to mind) Pegula may also be influenced by the experience he has had with the Sabres....where he kept an entrenched management in place for too long. The Sabres are one the right track now, albeit a very long road back to respectibility. These Bills are not anyway, any how in as bad a shape as the Sabres are wrt to haveing mature talent on the roster. As a long time season ticket holder, I am tired of having a new administration every three years......I know that Ralph Wilson's problems in getting top notch coaching were influenced by his apparent lame duck status as owner when he was in his 90's. The Pegula's do not appear to have that concern, and with the franchise here for long term, coaching talent not previously available might be had. Marrone has a 4 year contract, and, if let go, would have a couple of years to land on his feet......that might be the right choice.
  13. Well, Goodwin is next to useless.....hurt way to often.....and, not getting offensive snaps when he is healthy. He is a notch above everybody in the league from a speed point of view, but what is he doing sticking his nose into the middle of the pile returning kickoffs......he should be a run out of bounds type...that speaks to a coaching shortcoming in my view. Anyhow, other than the 1 important catch, he is a non contributor this year. Mike Williams...well, he has this contract thing....and its over 3 mil a year for multiple years going forward...this year is cheap by comparison. I think Marrone/Whaley have already concluded he will not get to that part of contract as a Bill.....he will be cut loose after the season. So, why invest playing time when others are capable. I have to admit Hogan is playing as well as I think he can. Anyhow, yesterday was a passing day...and the QB was only fair...didnt have his best long ball, oh wait, we didn't try the long ball (save one shot to Sammy) I guess we will never know...Anyhow, neither of these guys is a better contributor than TJ Graham would have been. I am thinking Graham was a casuality of "not being their guy", that is he was not a Marrone/Hackett pick. Thats why we have Hogan, not Graham. Back to Williams.Goodwin, neither, imho, will be bills next year based on their performance this year.
  14. Not sure its ever time to put EJ back in.....
  15. WRT to #10, its a tough grind.....on thursday night away. I don't know the stats, but advantage home team I think. (Even though the Bills have lost 3 at home SO FAR)
  16. Goodwin....a speed guy....needs to run a deep pattern during the game sometime and get a chance to outrun somebody, which he can do. He doesn't need to return a kickoff and stick his nose in there up the middle and get hurt again. Goodwin may have value, but they are not using him correctly imho. He is too injury prone to be on the team....I say he has to go if he is not good enough when healthy to be a top 3 receiver....and apparently he is not. The Bills also need a second and third TE that can catch.....throws to both backup TE's were on the turf......Gragg has zero hands, and neither does Lee Smith. A BIG need in the next draft.....Chandler still serviceable...but no superstar either. Coaching...lots of good plays, and for a change, I thought the bills actually did adjust at halftime to get the O going. None the less...the lack of comprehensive make sense play sequencing is bothersome to say the least. I did actually see a screen pass (Hackett has at least heard of it, apparently) Of course, Boobie Dixon decides to run by the three O linemen in front of him. Instead of getting 25 he gets 10. ACTUALLY, NEITHER TEAM LOOKED LIKE A PLAYOFF TEAM TO ME.
  17. James Hardy was a major mistake by the Bills in assessing talent. He WAS big, but he had really slow feet. I knew the first time I saw him play he was a bust. I really don't understand how he was a #2....he was UDFA talent level. Now, wrt to his incarceration in a mental institution, I hope he gets the help need to get him striaght.....but, after a trial out of the hospital, he is going to see the Slammer for a considerable time. How do people get that far off the railroad tracks?
  18. Yeh, but Winston can play....so not a good analogy. Winston is more likely CAm Newton V2.0
  19. Yeh, Vincent definitely took the shot at Losman......and I always refused to believe the "quality" guy image he was portrayed with. Getting rid of Bledsoe and turning the reins over to Losman was a BIG mistake....as Losman was a bust happening. At least in Dallas, Bledsoe lost out to a player...tony romo.
  20. Seems like a lot of Bills getting hurt in practice.....something wrong there at this time of year, practices should be lighter, and non contact. I wonder if Marrone is a little bit to old school for the modern NFL.
  21. About Todd Collins. He lasted 15 years in the league....after Buffalo KC and the Redskins I think. Mostly backup, but started some games late in his career and did well. He was one that the Buffalo coaching ruined.......
  22. I have only seen Winston on TV.....looks like another Cam Newton to me.
  23. It will be interesting to see Orton return to Denver on December 7......and we know Kyle will be MOTIVATED to show his stuff that day!!!!
  24. My fear is the Bills try to bring on EJ to fast again. I see no reason Orton can't play 3-5 seasons more for the Bills......EJ may be a free agent before we let Orton retire again. Of course, all this is predicated on Orton and the bills becoming winners, finally.
